PING G440K Driver: The Missing Piece Arrives

Wish I got along with Ping more.

I think it looks pretty good other than the crown, and I have little doubt that it's a very stable and accurate head. Thanks for the comprehensive look at this one @Jman!

Visually I actually really like how these look. 650 is a lot more digestible than 700+ so these firmly remain in the running for my next gamer. So excited to test all these offerings out; getting a bit overwhelmed with all the selection but that’s a good thing!

I absolutely love my G430 10k. Which is good because I’m not ready to drop $763 (price after tax) on a new one. Breaking the $700 price barrier just hits different psychologically.

That’s me in the moment though.

The missing piece was 10% more profit , apparently

I wanted to love the G430 10k but had issues turning it over. With the moveable weight maybe this one remedies that.

Speaking of the weight, is 32g the heaviest adjustable weight we have seen from any driver, any brand?

If the price was really $705 that would have been a shocker but its right in line with all of the other big boys at $649. Ping always shows the higher price in their release package. It's funny how the torches came out so quickly.

I was kind of hoping they’d bring the 7.5 head to retail, but understand why they didn’t lol.

That price is MSRP, MAP is what is being shown.
The info we received from PING gave us the MSRP price, so that is what is in the article.
That may be the case but it seems to be sold for the same price as the Qi4D so I don’t think anyone is actually paying over 700 before tax. Ping gets enough crap from me since they never allow discounts or incentives.

Maybe they rethought their pricing for the release. I don’t claim to have the answers. But I just want to point out for everyone complaining about the pricing that it appears to be a slightly higher price than the G440 Max. Which I believe was also true in the G430 series. I mostly just care about the price that I will personally pay but I’m also not sure this is a good fit for me either.

I’d certainly like to try it in any case. I used to have Ping drivers with good success until I moved to the QI35.

This is one ive been waiting on. I will be doing 4 drivers, and this one is kne im quite excited for.

I gotta say, I don’t understand this one. I get why the K was a second year release last time. Ping was reacting to a market trend (shocking) and added one. Why didn’t this come to market with the rest of the line last year?

Surely at some point Ping is going to need a better come to market strategy than just “we’re Ping, our fan will buy it”.

That's an interesting looking crown and while I've had PING products in the past, never a driver so them talking about the improved acoustics is something that I think a lot of people are going to be looking at based upon what I've heard from the community.
That old argument on them that still pops up has been pretty squashed, 430’s were better, and the 440’s are actually quite good sounding.

I’ve given them tons of **** for the 425 debacle, but it’s not the same acoustically now.

Easy way of refreshing the current lineup, plus, they stick to their release patterns.

This driver will do well for them.

Haven't been a Ping fan for quite some time. That price immediately turns me off for some reason. I understand all the stuff behind it, but man....I just can't.

You’re not going to be alone there.

Pretty wild the mental difference of seeing 705 versus 699 too imo. Both crazy, one crazy crazy as it cracks that barrier officially

While the argument may have been squashed, that's still an impression that exists. I don't recall sound / acoustics being featured in any of the other releases that have been the past few days but it is in the PING one. As long as the need to call it out exists the stereotype likely exists as well.

This being said, I'm not saying they are not good sounding, I'm sure they sound great.

It can also show them acknowledging they had an issue, and are addressing it actively. Nothing wrong with that.

We always want companies to own things, this is their way of owning things imo.

I’m not sitting here arguing, just bringing another perspective for conversation.

Cobra came out today at 599. Ping at 705....with taxes in Canadian this will be well over a 200$ price difference. That will be a big deal for many people.

I mentioned earlier but this will also crack 1000$ CAD which is also a pretty big barrier.

I definitely agree, it took me aback when I saw it, in fact I immediately texted @ddec about it while I was writing.

It’s pretty shocking.

I played Ping drivers for the better part of the last decade. So I’m loving this thing, turbulators and all.
I’ve read a little bit about the early performance of this head and it is supposedly a great release. I’m sure it will be in The mix this year for one of the top heads.
How do you feel about ping turning their nose up at carbon fiber and now literally wrapping the head with it?

that's a true story.

Good write up @Jman. That 32g weight has got to be one of the heaviest in a driver? How much do you think that will adjust the flights given the little window it has to move?

Probably a terrific club but $700 is a bit steep for my taste. Will follow the testing and player impressions though.

Hard to say in such a high MOI driver, though the shifting either way should also dip the MOI a bit. I’d say some, but the mental aspect might be the biggest impact, our brains are powerful there.

I will very likely own one of these. The curiosity will absolutely get me.

I want to see if they’ve managed to….manage…spin still. That’s where the 430 Max 10K shined

I like turbulators and I don't care who knows it!

I've heard some really good things about this driver, but it's not for me both in terms of size and price. The LST line remains impressively forgiving and a much better shape.
