PING G440K Driver: The Missing Piece Arrives

Easy way of refereeing the current lineup, plus, they stick to their release patterns.

This driver will do well for them.
I totally get it. And I believe it will.

I just think they do make some cool stuff (even if it's not for me) that they sometimes fumble because they're stuck in their ways.

That was supposed to say refreshing.

I’m not refereeing anything. 🤣🤣🤣

Flag on the play. Delay of innovation. 10 yard penalty.

I want to see if they’ve managed to….manage…spin still. That’s where the 430 Max 10K shined
It seems like there are whispers of this being the case.

I will say I tried the 10k and I didn’t love it. The LST was great for me (oddly as I tend to be fairly low spin). Being the maniac I am, will buy this one blind most likely…assuming reviews that pop are positive.

Wait… is this a Ping driver that actually looks good to my eye? 🤯

If PING is anything as a brand, it’s consistent, especially when it comes to release patterns. So when the G440 lineup of drivers dropped last year with four models, attentive golfers noticed the absence of one familiar head. It was the same omission we saw a year after the G430 drivers launched. That brings us […]

question from the back where the shovel row sits...

you talk about W Grind being max forgiveness through the turf...the H Grind versatility in softer conditions...

Take for example someone like myself who plays primarily in Oregon but also a decent amount of desert golf...Palm Springs, Phoenix, Las Vegas...it almost seems like I should be leaning W Grind during summer and when traveling and then in the winter rain months trending towards H as the rain tends to make the ground REALLY soft during the winter months...Not saying I have had a putt plug but not saying I haven't.

Now, that is a big guess off just reading an article a couple times and I might be wandering down the wrong trail but is something like two completely different sets of wedges for different times of year wildly off the rails?

Side note, currently only Ping Wedges I have are the PW and U that came with the blended set they fit me into, an I230 I believe. I carry a Taylormade Hie Toe Milled Grind 54 for bunkers (cannot chip with it. at all. Skull city) and a 58 milled grind Taylormade for flops. Sometimes I have pretty good success with it off tight lies...sometimes that 8 yard over the bunker to a tight pin becomes you know...the 70 yard blade job but these things happen when a golfer is mediocre...

just trying to get a tiny bit smarter on wedges than I was before. It is a low bar.

Interesting, different than the materials and information we were provided.

@JB @Lord Tox did you guys see this?
Yes, addition was made, as they gave MSRP and not MAP.
Change made early this morning.

Got the chance to hit these last week and was pretty impressed at how they seemed to handle the spin issue from the previous generation. I was seeing considerably less spin than from the 430 10k. Adding the adjustable weight to the back is a nice improvement. This will be a big winner for Ping.

THE STREET PRICE IS $649 on this one and right in line with everyone else. What am I missing????

TM QI4d - $649 - Launch monitor edition $699
Titleist GT $649
Callaway Quantum - guessing $649
Cobra Optum $599

Looks nice and good on Ping for removing the 10 from the 10K name. Gives them more wiggle room to create the best driver without having to hit a number just to hit the number. Ping Tour 2.0 Black is a solid pairing, fantastic shaft that I'd take over any of the no upcharge offerings.

Pings pretty consistent with putting out good drivers. You can still game any of the 400 series with success.

The crown and price kill this for me. I don't think I could look down at that constantly

cool clubs review was impressive...some great driver options this year it seems. Prob something will knock my 430 10K max out of the bag.

Sound has improved.
Feel is decent.
Ball flight was decent.
Not quite as fast as my current gamer, but I think if people like heavier heads, they will like this one.

The head weight thing is interesting. I have played it for three years and have gotten used to the head weight.

I had popped into the shop of the fitter who sold it to me three years ago. He got a shot that he wanted me to try but didn’t have a ping adapter for it. He had me hit it with a Titleist GT2. It was a bit shocking how light the whole club felt.

That’s when I realized that being really does have a heavy head

I think consensus at least from the initial reviews I’ve seen is that it’s really accurate and forgiving and fast…. For a ping driver

Still seems a bit slower than the competition but the accuracy and forgiveness is where it shines

Also interesting that their default length is 46 inches

Today was a head to head test day. The G440 K and the Core Qi4D. I’ll share my TM one somewhere else…but.

This is really, really good. Like really good. I found this extremely forgiving. I had one miss hit, which was a pull, but even my worst it kept controlled. Compared to the Qi it wasn’t as long, but it wasn’t shockingly so. I saw only a few yards difference. But the forgiveness was everything.

I cruise normally around 155 MPH ball speed. Without much effort, I was hitting a bunch at 160-162. I grabbed one shot:

My miss hits were definitely shorter, but I expect that for forgiveness and if it stays on the course it’s the win.

This…this I think is going into the bag.

How do you feel about ping turning their nose up at carbon fiber and now literally wrapping the head with it?
I'm totally indifferent. I know nothing about any of that, so don't care. If it performs, awesome.

Yup, and times change. Companies shift course.

I’m a sicko and have issues. But you ever hit a club on a ponder and then walk away and…don’t stop pondering? To the point of obsessing? I think that sentence explains my OcD self very well. But I digress

After taking my kids to their dance club practice I went back to the store to put the TM qi4d and the Ping g440 k through more direct paces. Alternating every 10 shots, discarding the warm up rounds with each.

I’ll spare a ton of details. Again I could’ve chosen either and been happy. I think part of my concern with the TM has been the face issues previous models have had.

But I chose the Ping for a few reasons:
1. I played the LST for a bit this last year. I found that in fittings to be more forgiving than the max. This? On steroids. I’d consistently see my spin around 2200-2400, a few thin shots where it was lower. But my misses? I’d see some good spin around 3k and it stayed. I have this tendency to sort of heel one and send it way right. This didn’t.

2. The TM was longer. But not enough to make me worried. We are talking 304 average to 298. But I found again the misses were better. My dispersion circle for the Ping was significantly tighter east and west. But the victor for me? North and south. My miss hits on the TM cost me more yards. It’s still impressive. But the Ping did well.

3. I’ve been using and testing a lot more CB shafts. I have found success with them. I like the Alta in my hybrid, so this was easy. Plus I have other shafts I tested with the Ping earlier this year to use. But at this length, which definitely was longer compared, the CB worked so well for timing things up for me. And I think, and this can be a placebo affect, but the weight of the head paired with it was so good.

In the end, and patience not being a virtue I have, I got the Ping. I mean after trade in 6 bucks was a price I was willing to pay to get this in hand.

This is everything I loved about the 430 10k max with even better spin control and performance. Which my issue with that one was that it left a lot more yards on the table. This seems to split the difference.

Nice dude. I really really need to get out and hit this one before I decide on my 2026 driver.

I don't need to read this. I LOVE my G430 10k Max. Do not need another driver. But I'm wired a bit like you....

I was going to wait to hit a few more, but it just felt right.

So many good ones to hit this year. So many cool technologies and features. It’s a really good year for it!

This is why we all have found THP. We are sickos in the best of ways.
