Play 18 at Victoria National

If you truly carry it 250---you need to cut some of the water unless you're playing the tips.

IRL---those bunkers and knee high fescue come at you very, very quick. I hit a couple of fun drives after our match was over and 250 down the left without cutting, we didn't find the ball. Dead in the fescue.
How much do you need to cut? Is at the tree too much? In between the tree and the bunker?

If you carry it 250 you need to go about 20-30 yards right of the bunker for sure. A dead straight shot a tiny bit right of the bunker is dead in the knee high fescue

Great insight to have. 🤝

I’m at about 270 right now so no way to go for it. In previous years definitely could pull 290 to atleast get it up closer to the green. Still wouldn’t go right at it though. At Ballyhack it was 310 par 4 (6?) and ended up a very short pitch. Extra round Roadrunner challenged me to go right at it. Ended up just short taking the line of the bunker

So would try to fade it farther up off the bunkers here to leave a wedge in.

I honestly think the approach if you don’t take on a ton of water is scarier than the tee shot.

At or right of those fairway bunkers is what I’ll be doing depending on what you are likely to be left with for approach.

Depending on tee box, probably right at the bunkers View attachment 9347825
Yeah this is definitely the line I’m taking. Maybe even a little further left between the two bunkers and hope I hit a little fade that puts me 180-190. Then punching up a 5h or a 9w. This is a par 5 for me every day of the week.

Sim safely at the bunkers at the left. I don’t and never have had 290 carry distance.

100% going left that is a huge carry!

I would go right if the bunkers and hope I hit a good one. I seem to struggle with these kinds of shots, so I’ll just pretend all that water is AI generated.

Three of three hitting the 18th fairway. I don’t have the distance to even think about cutting off more water than I should. The play here for me is a cut/fade shot off the left fairway bunkers back in to the fairway.
Looking forward to seeing exactly this in person soon!

The pin was shooting about 305 carry that day. Went for it and flew it into the hill just left of the green maybe 10 - 15 yards or so.

250 carry you have to cut the water a little bit. That's my play . You're cutting the water 10-20% of the way
I’m channeling my inner Kyle Berkshire and taking a 3/4 7i and hoping I don’t fly the green.

Really though I’m planning for a 250 yd carry. Normally that would mean maybe taking a 220-230 line just to play it extra safe, but running through the fairway here sounds like instant death, so I would have to be more aggressive and just make a good committed swing.

How far is the approach if playing safer off the tee though? That hole was lasered barely over 300 total.

That’s direct line from the tee to the green.

If you played to the corner it is maybe 120-130 in. But the water comes basically all the way to the green on the right. It’s a scary look. That’s why I say you should take on as much water to carry as possible.

We had 144

Yup, I agree. Carrying as much water as someone's horse-power and shot tendencies comfortably allow is the way to go. Personally, I don't possess that horse-power so I'd need to play that tee shot safer. It's still a potential birdie hole off the safer tee ball even if the approach in might be scarier. Most likely result is probably par/bogey though provided I don't sh!t the bed on or near the green.

Safe left for me while I watch @snafu try to bomb it! :ROFLMAO:

Over the water just left around 260 or so so easy chip on and hopefully get close for a birdy or par
