The USGA will be lifting the cell phone ban for the 2015 US Open. First I will say that I wasn't aware of any ban to begin with. I assume the rules at the U.S. Open was the same as any other PGA Tour event, in that you can only use cell phones in designated areas. USGA will have four designated areas complete with WiFi. The USGA will also be launching a revision to there app to enhance the "fan experience."

I don't think this will have any impact during the tournament, the PGA Tour already has there own rules that are similar to this and they seem to have minimal issues. Do you agree with the USGA decision?

I have no problem with this at all. There should be areas where people can use their phones.

It has absolutely no impact on my life either way so I say whatever. I will definitely never play in a U.S. Open and likely will never get the opportunity to attend one. If I do, doing anything involving a cell phone will be the last thing on my mind while at the event.

I'm a bit torn on this one.

On one hand: Cell phone bans in 2015 are ridiculous. But on the other hand; Is it so much to ask to leave your phone in the car for a day? Do people really have to take out their phone to film a shot or take pictures you can see on the internet? You'll never get Tiger of Phil to pose with you.

I have been to some PGA Tour events and I have mine on hand for two reasons. One in case there is an emergency and two to check the leaderboard while I'm on the grounds. The selfie crowd and those wanting pics, I don't want them snapping pictures during the round.

The first family emergency someone experiences while attending a USGA event, where they're able to get the message faster than the 10 hours the phone would have been left in the car, would never vote no to this.

Having gone to a few opens and a few regular tour events I'm happy about this. Parking at these events is usually a pain so being able to get dropped off and being able to call when I'm done is a huge plus.

I think it's time (that it's lifted). Have designated areas (lots of them) and enforce whatever rules you set by kicking the violators out.

I really, really, will give me middle nut, want to see a cell phone go off during Bubba's swing

its about time. it was a dumb ban in imo. i volunteered at Tigers tournament at Congressional and they had designated areas to use it for talking and were open about using it for pics and texting around the course as long as it wasn't being done when the players close...so if at the green once they started approaching the green the phones had to be put away.

I've been lucky enough to attend The Masters and I'll say it was pretty refreshing to go without it for a few hours. I did catch myself reaching for my phone on occasion, but as long as people use their phones responsibly, I have no issue with it.

Exactly how it was at the PGA Championship at Valhalla last year and how it should be everywhere.

As much as I like detaching from my cell phone, I would be a supporter of allowing them on the grounds.

I agree have good rules and enforce the mess out of them. No need for someone's ringtone to go off mid swing. There are drawbacks and idiots - I say just remove the idiots after they have paid and most of the drawbacks get self corrected. ?

I support allowing cell phones.

I also support rules in play that demand said phones to be on vibrate or silent during play.
Exactly! Why would that be so wrong? I like knowing that I can be reach in case of an emergency. When I go to an event on the PGA, I am gone for the day and I do need to be reached. However I respect the phone being on vibrate and have no problem with putting it on vibrate.

Meh. Cell phones. Get off my lawn. Cut your hair you hippie. Get a collar on that shirt. We should go back to rocks and sticks.

Progress is good.

Not a fan but I understand that some may need them for business or emergencies, as long as they use them where they are supposed too it shouldn't hurt anything.

No doubt! It's 2015, if you don't know how to silent (or vibrate) your phone, you shouldn't bring it.

I don't care one way or the other. People don't follow the rules either way. This will just open it up for more distracting people trying to snap pics of players in full swing.

I've worked the Grandstands as a marshal at the U.S. Open, I honestly think this is going to be a problem. And I certainly hope they are quick to escort people to the gate when busted. The ration of sh!t the volunteers will take for this is going to be ridiculous. And we were only having to enforce the cell phone silence and etiquette to those that we cleared for phone use.

What kills me about that is if you have the phone on silent it doesn't make noise when you take a pic. People are just rude.

All other tournaments all cell phones and while you see marshals telling people to put the phone away it doesn't get that bad. My dad and his friend marshal events every year and don't feel the phones are ever that bad.

I attended the PGA Championship in 2010 and it was a beyatch to not have my phone for the entire day. I am an IT Consultant so I have clients emailing/texting/calling me at all hours of the day with varying degrees of issues. I can't be the only one that has a need for a smartphone at an event like this.

If you are not smart enough to know how to turn off the sound on your phone, then you shouldn't be allowed to own one.

I don't see a problem with them as long as people are courteous but there will be those that forgot or can't figure out how to set them to silent and they'll go off at the worst time. I've seen it too often in church or meetings. Kinda funny watching the mad scramble to push the right button to shut it off.
