Project X TITAN Black: Built for Speed, Stability, and Control

Ok let's get this party started....

First off a little background on me. My name is Dean, according to GHIN I'm currently a 10.7 handicap. Based on recent skytrak+ sessions, my swing speed sits in that 98-104 range. I have a quick-ish transition and battle an over the top move like so many out there. Used to play a draw, now it's whatever shape shows up for that day. Last year I relied mostly on a little bit of cut, with my big miss being the dead pull to the left.

For this testing, I'll be using the Titan 6.0 with a Callaway adapter. I'll mostly be using a Quantum Max for testing, but may throw it on a Quantum Triple Diamond for some swings as well. The setup I've been using lately is that QM head with a Diamana Whiteboard 63s.

My shaft was officially delivered yesterday, and I immediately threw it on the QM and hit some balls in the garage. Nothing really more than just a quick, get to know you session. Immediately it feels different to me than the whiteboard. For me, I got back and forth between Blueboad and Whiteboard, which makes the WB feel really stout in the tip section. I did not get that feeling here. Sounds funny, but that could be some of the feel I'm getting from a softer handle section which is masking that. Again, not really a session I wanted to dive too much into numbers, but for the last 20 swings I recorded, I was seeing really good ball speeds(147), but more importantly for me, was seeing a pretty consistent launch angle(14.2), and spin in a happy zone for me(2623). Again, not looking too much into that as it was just just a relaxed introduction.

Will be interested in seeing spin and launch ultimately against the white board you have. The blue board I would expect to launch and spin a bit more, but I know the people looking at this kind of shaft would normally have it up against the white board in that case.

yeah it's a much better side by side with the Whiteboard. Plus BB is in a cobra head. But I do also have a Tensei White with Callaway tip.

This shaft looks so slick in the Elyte.

Oh wow yeah, I'm guessing this has signficantly more of a firm feel and less kick than that. The LINQ PowerCore are some of the best feeling shafts out there in my opinion.

Numbers: Finally able to extract the session data from my first swings with the Titan yesterday and the even though it was a fairly rushed session and developed a blister on my hand from no glove, this shaft is legit. All with 2025 Pro V1 ball, gamer from last year.

Out of curiosity what are you using to measure or to get these numbers?

Based on swing speed and distances your ball speeds seem low to me.

I then put session data through a tailored ChatGPT prompt to fit me for the shaft based on results and it really blew my mind with the response.

Overall Result

The Titan 6.0 60g is clearly the better fit for this player.

It produced:
  • +15 yards average carry
  • +19 ft peak height
  • ~28% tighter distance consistency
This is a large performance improvement for a shaft change alone.

What the Data Shows About the Player

1️⃣ The Phoenix Shaft Is Too Light

Phoenix weight:
48g

Titan weight:
60g

A 48g shaft is extremely light for a 109-mph driver speed.

What we see in the data:

Phoenix shots include huge drop-offs:
  • 212
  • 219
  • 235
Those are timing misses caused by the shaft being too light.

With Titan, the worst shots improved dramatically.

This means the player loads a heavier shaft more consistently.

2️⃣ Launch Window Improved

Phoenix average apex:
79 ft

Titan average apex:
99 ft

For a swing speed around 105-110 mph, ideal apex is:
95-110 ft

So the Titan shaft puts you directly into the optimal trajectory window.

The Phoenix shots around 25-60 ft apex show the ball falling out of the air.

3️⃣ Strike Quality Improved

The distance consistency improvement:

Phoenix spread ≈ 104 yards total range

Titan spread ≈ 78 yards

That means center contact improved, which is exactly what a proper shaft weight does.

Why the Titan Shaft Works Better

Based on the data, your swing likely has:
moderate to aggressive transition
• needs more shaft load
• performs better with 60g weight class

The Titan gives:
  • better timing
  • more consistent face delivery
  • better launch conditions

One Setting I Would Immediately Change

Your driver is currently .

With your new apex around 99 ft, you are close to optimal but I would test:

+1° loft sleeve setting

On the Callaway Elyte Driver

Try: 9° → 10° setting

Expected improvement:

MetricExpected Change
Launch+1°
Peak Height+5–8 ft
Carry+4–8 yards

Second Adjustment I Recommend

Your driver is 45.5" length.

For a player shooting in the 80s, I would strongly test: 45.0" playing length

Typical results:
  • tighter dispersion
  • improved center strike
  • +3–5 mph ball speed from better impact
That can add another 8–12 yards carry.

Optimized Driver Setup Recommendation

Head: Callaway Elyte Driver
Loft: 10° setting
Shaft: Titan 6.0 60g
Length: 45.0"
Swingweight target: D3–D4

Expected averages:

MetricExpected
Carry295–305
Total310–325
Peak Height100–110 ft

One Very Interesting Thing in Your Data:
Your longest drive with Titan was 322 carry.

That means your distance ceiling is much higher than your average.

Which suggests the last improvement left is strike location.

Out of curiosity what are you using to measure or to get these numbers?

Based on swing speed and distances your ball speeds seem low to me.
Full Swing Overhead system was used.

Based on the smash factor I guess you aren't making great contact?
I was not, and the overhead camera showed me that in excruciatingly clear detail. Majority of the Phoenix contact was inside or heel.

This thing looks bad ass. Pairs SO well with the Quantum colorway

My 6.5x 70g Titan arrived today and I just got back from my range session.

Initial impressions are very high. I warmed up with my 6.5x 70g HZRDUS Black RDX shaft and saw my normal high ball flight that would fall right with a decent fade.

After switching to the Titan, I immediately noticed that I did not feel like I had to swing as hard to transition the swing and that I could find a more relaxed tempo. The shaft felt more stable through impact producing a similar to marginally lower ball flight.

I hit somewhere between 25-30 balls with the Titan shaft and found that my good swings were tighter in dispersion, and more consistent. My miss with this shaft was a low left hook, my normal miss with my last shaft is a high right slice.

Overall after my first session I have high hopes for this shaft and look forward to getting onto a simulator to put some numbers to this test for you all!

What are your typical numbers with the HZRDUS Black and after that quick session, any thoughts on where the Titan will be in comparison?

I typically sit in the 2600-3000 rpm range at about a 130-140 peak height and a ~290 on course carry distance.

From a guess at the ball flight I was seeing, there will be a bit more carry in this shaft compared to the RDX.

Is a marginally lower ball flight something that would be beneficial for you?

I think that a lower ball flight would play better for me. And I don’t think this shaft will sacrifice carry distance to achieve that either.

Sounds wonderful!

I am definitely keeping tabs on this one. From the description this could be a very fun shaft to put in a mini.

Stop it, stop making me think about other uses for this.
