Project X TITAN Black: Built for Speed, Stability, and Control

Gardenhoser....warm up, you're going in! Love that movie. My transition looks like I am wearing a shock collar and it goes off when I reach the top of my swing.
That painted a hilarious picture in my head haha.

Next session plan.

HZRDUS Smoke Blue RDX 6.0 70 playing at 45.5" first up.

First modification to the Titan has been done based on the recommendation from session 1, shortened to 45" for testing.

I typically prefer 45" or 44.5" as playing length to help with more consistent strikes.

Everything will be on a Full Swing simulator so I'm also anxious to see if my club bath replays improve from the terror from the first session.
What length did they ship the Titan to us?

Another good session with this shaft, data to be crunched and put up for all you golf data nerds.

This shaft is fast, smooth and really easy to swing and stand on if you want to with control.

Men's club skins comp this Saturday and this will be in the bag for real world testing.

45.5", measured mine once I popped the grip off
Thanks, that is a long shaft for me. I may need to get it cut down.

Does anyone have any tips on how to determine how long a driver shaft should be for yourself?

One of the trickier subjects for golfers, club manufacturers tell you what the 'standard' length is, which has grown from ~45" to over 46" in the quest for speed (longer means it can be swung faster increasing ball speed meaning more distance in theory).

If you dont know I would have it cut to the same length as your current shaft whatever it plays at.

I would for sure give it some time before you adjust anything with length. Give it a shot at stock a few times, that way you can give feedback on it in that setting before you change anything up

Unboxing

Initial Thoughts

I guess I should say a little about me since I skipped that originally in my previous posts. Right now I am around a 5.5 cap with a 12 month low at 3.9. Off the tee is what Shot Scope says is the best part of my game. I have had a revolving door of drivers and shafts in the bag for the last few years but have been pretty happy with the LINQ White and DS Adapt Max K for the last year. I wouldn't call myself a long hitter but I am also not a short knocker. I am living in the 250-275 range most of the time but do get a lot of drives over 300 yds total. I live in PHX so the 1000 feet of altitude help as does the dry heat of the summer. What I have been working on the last few seasons is tightening up my side to side dispersion, that is the reason the Max K beat out the LS in the latest driver battle.

I did have a second range session and similar to the first I am really impressed with the stability of the Titan shaft. I did try some really open stance fades to see the ball really move in the air and I was finally able to see a big curve. Can I push a shot? Yes. Can I have a fade? Yes. Do I see a big ol banana slice? No. Now I have worked a long time to get rid of the slice so I can't say that this shaft is an anti slice shaft. What I can say is my lazy swings are not as penal so that is good for me.

I get my first round in tomorrow with a few short par 5's and a drivable par 4 so I am excited to see how it does on the course.

Session 2 testing. First up is the HZRDUS Smoke RDX Blue 6.0 70. Average last row.

@kiwichris so you were seeing more spin with the Titan?

Averages worked out around ~100rpm more than the Smoke Blue

Interesting. What do you think attributes to that for you? Curious as the titan in theory should be fairly lower spinning

Could use either of those lofts pretty damn easily @kiwichris . Average of 10 yards farther with the Titan is pretty sick!!

Up +1 and my dispersion tightened up so much as well, which is really good as I ahd some pretty wild dispersion with other shafts, and even at the 45" neutral setting with the Titan

I am not smart enough to understand why, it could be face strike position, plus the HZRDUS I think are lower spin shafts than the Titan

I think the Titan was designed to be lower spin than the HZRDUS line, at least mostly

I bumped mine up a degree when changing from the linq powercore blue because it was launching lower than i prefer.

As someone who launches wildly high, I love to hear that. Early feedback has me really excited to get back and get testing myself.

Good test for this shaft today, winds steady at 10-15mph, gusting over 20

Time to get to work.

First thing I’ll need to do is match lengths to my fitted length. Will take care of that today and then try to get some time tomorrow to start testing.

For me, I hover currently around a 4hc. Fairly consistent with driver but sometimes can get a little quick in transition which some shafts handle better than others for me.

I hit it high, roughly 120-140ft peak high, and I’ve always looked for equipment to help with launch and spin. Normally look for mid season about 270+ carry but almost never get roll out due to the height and spin. So anything that can help bring the launch down a bit while maintaining ball speed will be fantastic.
