I walked Monday, will probably walk again tomorrow. If the temperatures don't spike back up I'll be full time #pushcartmafia from now until next May. Can't wait, I enjoy walking so much more than being in a cart!
It really is so much better. Sightly different strategy here though, my cart is about to go into storage for the winter.

Yeah, we're just coming into walking season right now. 180 degrees out from the northern half of the country, your offseason is our prime season!

Yep, considering a trip down there this winter. If our snow sucks again like last year it will happen.

I noticed that some collegiate golfers are pulling this week at St. Andrew’s, got me wondering if the push cart thing had shifted a little too far in that direction. During the early Covid days I was able to borrow a pull cart for a few rounds until I was finally able to procure a push cart. And I remember those rounds being quite enjoyable. A couple months later my pull cart arrived, and after three rounds I had to give it up, as pushing was way too hard on my back.

So, pushing hurt, pulling did not, but i still don’t see many pullers out there. As for me, when I do get the chance to walk, I’ve gone minimalist with a half set (or less) to enjoy my rounds that way. 🏌️‍♂️

That is strange. If you look at studies done on people who move stuff daily, it is much better on the body to push a load then to pull. You have better leverage and stability pushing.

Finally back to walking yesterday

When I walk it's always with my push cart. I've owned 3 since I started golfing in 1998.

I don’t have an answer for that. I know pushers are more prevalent, and I assumed it is that way for a reason. I only know that for me pulling turned out to be easier.

Some of it may be ergonomics, in that a golf bag is a relatively light load, so you never really lean into the push, whereas when pulling, the natural tendency is to lean into the direction you’re going. Of course you also tend to pull one-handed, so that leads to an unequal sideways torque, which proves I have no idea what I’m talking about….🤷🏻‍♂️

I had a two-wheeled pull cart in the '80s, similar to the one pictured below, when they were much more common than push carts. I didn't like the rearward angle it put my shoulder in, nor the fact that you had to push downward to keep the base off the ground and all the weight was borne by one arm. Not only is the push cart more comfortable to me, I can also just give it a push on downhill/level surfaces and let it roll ahead of me on its own.

The only problem when I first got a 3-wheeled push cart after using the pull cart was that we used to give them a shove and let them go down pretty steep/long hills just for fun, and it would sometimes result in some pretty spectacular crashes. Your golf bag would end up looking like a yard sale, with stuff spread out 10 yards around it!

In addition to getting more exercise, I play better when walking. Hope the temperatures cooperate for you.

This holds true for us down here in heated SA. I don't walk very much but if I have good shoes that won't kill my feet I really like walking November thru March.

Back when I walked the course, "pull" carts were still the thing.
It wasn't cool to use one among young people at the time, but
I almost always did anyway.

I used it because carrying the old one-strap "pleather" golf bags wasn't exactly a pleasant experience. Walking bags weren't nearly as sophisticated or ergonomic as they are now.

I can remember when stand bags first hit the scene. Such a radical departure from the norm.

I got my first walking round in yesterday finally. It has been way too long since last season and then being injured and recovering. It was a fun day with @Wildcat and @MagicSpell walking 18. I am going to try and walk as much as possible before the heat arrives.

Do i have to turn in my card now that I won't be pushing anymore?

Our group played our first round a week ago. I walked as usual with my ClicGear 3.0 push cart that is about 13 years old, but still works like a charm (a real tank, I know!).
On the 9th hole I could tell I was running out of gas, so at the turn I rented a riding cart for the back 9……it was either that or not make it due to being “out of shape.” :(
We’re playing again tomorrow, but I’ve been walking at the local park to build up stamina. So the plan is to walk the front 9 again, but (since I arrange the groups) I
put one of the riders in my group, so I can ride a couple of holes, if needed on the back. Eventually, I’ll walk all 18 with no problem, but it’s tough being almost 80 yrs old…..!!!

Got a Motocaddy
I still consider myself a member with my Alphard, hope I don’t end up sleeping with the fishes for that

Got a Motocaddy
I was thinking I read that somewhere but wasn’t sure. I went electric too so I guess we’re in the same boat. I still take the pushcart if I’m expecting rain, but that’s pretty rare.

if I’m out, I just need to come to terms with it because I’m so damn excited to get this thing out!
