These are the current stats from putters on the PGA tour. Thoughts?

Crazy to me they are making less than 50% from starting at 9 feet.

I really like to see stats like these. Shouldn’t make me upset to miss putts especially beyond 4 feet.

Putting is hard. Recreational golfers think they are far better at putting than they are, and don't spend nearly enough time practicing.

Thoughts: These guys are amazingly good. Not surprised. Light years better than me or most I play with even though these pros typically putt significantly more difficult greens.

Pretty crazy how quickly 1 ft erodes the make %. Just from 4 to 5ft, it’s down 10% and 12% from 5 to 6ft. Just shows how tough putting is.

These stats are why I laugh hysterically at the discussion of make percentages for amateurs when they come up.

As a subscriber to Lou Stagner's mews letter, I'm not surprised at all by these stats. Based on TV coverage of the pros, which mainly shows the leaders and those sinking putts from all over the green, we ams have gotten a really inflated expectation of what constitutes a makeable putt.

That's hogwash. I see guys make every single putt on TV...

And what’s not on the statistics,
is that they are playing on greens stimp
11-13 ish … where as the average, course is approximately 3/4 of that.
So that further enhances the remarkable ability.

It's why we gotta. get. closer!

No matter how good you are proximity will decide your fate.

I'm currently making 67% from 6-9ft according to Shot Scope. Guess it's time to go pro

Problem is, you've only hit it to that range 3 times all year

🤪

And getting to the right spot. 8’ isn’t created equal.

The inverse of the above is that you don't have to make everything in sight to have good Strokes Gained putting. If you are getting everything pretty close from outside of 10 ft it is a pretty good day. Maybe one or two drop. Most Ams should be thinking two putt from outside of around 8 feet.

To a certain extent...

8 feet is less than 3 yards. To get to 8 feet you have to risk being above the hole. Take a typical 12 yard Gap between clubs...

8 Feet above the hole is better than 27 feet (9 yards) below the hole....almost always....almost

They did a good job of showing Rory miss a few at the US Open

These stats make me feel better out my putting especially on some of the greens that I putt on.

I think TV coverage might have people convinced otherwise.

Thoughts… there is almost nothing about professional golf that is relatable.

Regardless of any freakishly good round and whatever my stokes gained numbers might indicate, their abilities are so many levels away as to be a completely different game. Not comparable.

At best, I make half as many as they do from 6-10 feet. I think most golfers don’t realize the difficulty of the PGA Tour greens they are putting on. They have a lot of tricky 5-10 footers that break feet rather than just inches like the greens that most amateurs are putting on.
