Question for interlock grip users

This was the sequence at my house - Reading this thread I pop off the stool I'm on to do the exact same thing you just did, and just as I'm standing there reading your post, my wife says 'wtf are you doing?' and looks at me like I'm insane. lol I've never seen that either and I'm guessing you mock swung for the same reason I did. To try to figure out how you would even get that.

It's been said already now, but yeah, your hands have to be doing some serious work to push on that spot. Not necessarily your whole right hand though, @93civiccpe Because if you're just gripping like crazy with your right hand, I don't see how you would 'rub' there. There wouldn't really be any movement. You have to have an imbalance to impinge that spot, where you hands are in opposition or fighting like you said. You can let off a bit with your right, and might well need to near your thumb & forefinger, but another thing I would explore would be tightening the grip on the last couple fingers of your left. If you have adequate grip pressure there, it'd be pretty hard to convince your right to beat you up like that.
Hahaha - that's funny! My wife always gives me the stink-eye when I swing in the house...

I agree with you on the left hand; I have a very light grip with most of the pressure in the last 3 fingers of my left hand.

Just toying around at my desk to mimic that kind of rub on my index finger indicates to me that your interlock is DEEP.
I would bet that your grip is a bit in the palm of your hands rather than more in your fingers. Try adjusting your grip from each hand into more of the fingers than interlock again without adjusting. That area should be in a better spot to not rub.

It could be hand size or how I grip it but the club is definitely in the fingers. I think the right hand naturally grips stronger and the left hand is moving causing the rubbing. When I get home I may see if my wife is willing to snap some pictures of my grip for confirmation on here.

I'm not sure! When I interlock, my pinky and index finger are basically just resting there.
Most of my pressure comes from my left hand's middle finger, ring finger, and pinky and my right hand's middle, and ring finger.

So, my wife looked at me like I'm crazy but ultimately helped me out and took these pictures. (looking for input on my grip and not a critique on my pajamas!!)

Just my left hand from the top:

Flipping my hand over to show the grip in my fingers:

Both hands from the top (note, this is the correction I've made in the last 24 hours as my right hand was previously much stronger / underneath the grip)

And thanks in advance for any input!!

I have the same problem in that area on my right hand. I try not to grip too hard too but I think it mainly comes from my awful shots and the jarring motion ?. I’ve just built up a good enough callous that it doesn’t bother me any more.

I figured it is time for an update. I had surgery to have it removed. The hand specialist originally thought it was a fluid cyst due to arthritis which could keep returning. After they tested it they found that it was actually a nerve that had been damaged and since they removed it I should be clear. I've been using a reverse overlap grip to let the finger heal and once it does in going to try each grip to see what works best. My entire golfing life I've used an interlock but that may be changing.

I’m glad your doctor could figure out the issue. Hopefully your swing will be 100% soon!

I have seen the left index finger not doing anything and the right pinkie wrapped around it in the interlocking grip. The left index finger just sits there relaxed poking out between the third and fourth fingers of the right hand.

If using interlock grip, try not to let the right index separate so much from the other fingers. As I see in the pictures, you have quite the trigger finger setup. Perhaps, that could be creating stress in that area you mention. Worth a try. For me the trigger finger emphasis is easier and works better in the overlap grip.

Looking at that picture you are absolutely correct.. I will try that for sure. It may be the only way I can go back to an interlock grip

I use the interlock grip and have for many years. Sometimes when I practice, and even sometimes when I play, I'll let my right index finger and thumb float and remain off the club or just slightly in contact with it but exerting zero pressure. That allows me to really feel the last 3 fingers on my left hand and the middle 2 fingers on my right hand control the grip and work together.

The trigger finger setup feels pretty good sometimes as long as it's not actively exerting pressure (for me at least).

It feels awkward when I try to bring that finger in but it's still too tender to make a real swing

Good afternoon,
I have a quick question for those who use the interlock grip. I've used the interlock grip since I first started playing but recently developed an issue. I'm right handed and right above the knuckle of my first finger on my left hand (pictured) I have a hard knot that developed that gets really sore after playing. I've been using moleskin and taping it up to prevent it from getting aggravated further but was curious if anyone else had experienced this? It's from contact with the top knuckle of the ring finger on my right hand. Is this something that I should get checked or just keep taping up and see if it goes away? When using moleskin I'm not getting the pain /tenderness anymore. View attachment 8921568
Uhhh I may be experiencing a similar issue. There’s no noticeable deformity right now, but the knuckle is very tender. May try to get a splint to let things calm down and see where it goes from there.

It's slightly sitting in your left palm...Ask @MarMill about this as he had same issue that we fixed remotely. 😉
