Hey guys I am in the process of deciding what I need to setup a functioning home golf simulator. I really like the Garmin R10 (not available right now), and I think it can help my game, but I have a few must haves...

1. I really want to start tracking my shots, so having the stats that are available with the Garmin R10 is critical.
2. I would like to be able to play virtual golf and run it from my iPad/iPhone. If absolutely necessary I can take a MacBook and run Windows on it, but trying to avoid that.
3. All of the shots I am making while playing virtual golf need to be tracked so I have those stats to analyze.
4. It would be nice to play higher resolution courses, as long as they can run on my iOS device.

Q: With the Garmin R10 I see that there are 42,000 virtual golf courses included, but the graphics do not look very good. But if I had to deal with that limitation, will all of my stats on how far I hit each club be recorded and available while I am playing those courses?

Q: I see "E6 Connect" compatibility. I am having a hard time figuring out what that costs, let alone if it would provide the stat tracking I need. Anyone familiar with this product? I won't be buying a golf simulator from them. I only need access to the software (assuming it runs with iOS) so I can play better looking courses.

I will probably be using something like the Spornia Spg-7 for the net, setup either outside occasionally, or in the garage. But the net solution can be sorted out once i know what I need on the software front.

Thanks guys.

Hi @robmypro I have the R10 although have not used it recently due to so much work. My first name is also Rob and I used to live out in Colorado. Anyway on to your questions.

1. Yes the R10 comes with Home Tee Hero and there are 42,000 courses. I have not found a course that was missing in the limited courses I have played. The Graphics are not great but it will tell you how far each shot went and show you the shot shape etc. It is also nice to play a course that you will be playing or play often. There is difference of opinions on data quality regarding spin and other calculations but I think most agree for the price point it is very good. The cost is $99/year for Home Tee Hero and all the courses along with the driving range app.

2. With E6 you get 5 free courses along with the driving range and practice ranges like chip shots with your R10. E6 tracks your data on their website after you create an account. It has all sorts of tracking for driving range and all the courses you have played.

All of this needs to run on IOS, either an iphone or IPAD. I purchased an ipad 9 last year for $329 which easily meets the requirements of E6. You can also upgrade your E6 to get more courses and look into TGC-2019, AwesomeGolf or GSPRo software all run with the R10. All of these cost money but folks like them. The Ipad or iphone will give very good graphics with all of these but a PC seems to give better graphics.

Hey Rob, thanks for the reply!

Regarding #1, question on Home Tee Hero.

Will I get data on all my shots, so for example I can see that I have hit my 3i 46 times and average 200 years? Does the data accumulate as I use the software so I have some idea of how far I hit each club, and tendencies (I hit my 3i to the right 10 yards on average)? I am buying this R10 device so I really want to develop a solid history of what I am doing. It would be really good to see a chart with progress, so I can see for example that I was hitting my Driver 240 years 6 months ago but it has slowly increased to 255 yards today. I guess I want more analytical data than just the current round.

Regarding #2, so by buying the R10 I get 5 free courses, a driving range and practice ranges for chipping, etc. And if I want more that is where the other subscriptions come in. What about stats? If I am playing the 5 free courses will all of that data accumulate so I can see my progress?

I have an iPad Air (4th gen) that seems pretty fast overall so I think I should be good. I don't need amazing graphics. I won't be putting this up on a big screen via a projector.

BTW, I play PGA Tour 2k21 which is really good, but I don't think that would hook up with anything.

Thanks again Rob!

I am sending some screenshots to better help explain. These are all from last fall.

When doing a driving range session with the Garmin HTH you will get stats for that session. like the following. These are two different screen shots from two different sessions on a cold day. I don't think there is a way to see the stats from your 7-iron over many sessions but there could be.

unfortunately with hth when playing a course you only see your scorecard at the end like the following. I also have a garmin watch and that will track all of my shots on the course and keep running distances and performance stats.

Now here are some shots from E6 from a closest to the pin

Here is the E6 sorecard aka scorecard from 18

Hopefully that helps

Thanks Rob! This really helps. Okay, looking at the info...

The HTH driving range data is exactly what I was looking for. That is pretty much perfect. But when playing a round with HTH are you saying you get none of the stats similar to the range? Because if so, that pretty much kills my idea of using HTH for the intended purpose. The E6 stats look really good. So let's say I play 30 rounds on E6, would I be able to get stats on each club, averaged over those rounds?

Thanks again, Rob!

I've not used the E6 sim software but do occasionally play Home Tee Hero sim rounds. It's not possible to break out stats from Home Tee Hero rounds since it doesn't even give you an option to select what club you hit for each shot when playing HTH. The driving range function on the Approach R10 does provide data for each club hit and also gives averages and number of times hit for each club used during each session.

I've also never used the sim or range features available through Awesome Golf or TGC2019 that are now available on the R10 Approach. As I understand it the range functions and sim in those packages are more robust and might offer the data sets you seek but I don't know for sure?

Thanks for clarifying that. Not being able to select your club for rounds (and not having any of that club data) is a deal breaker for me with HTH. Too bad. It looks like that leaves me with E6.

Well you'll probably have plenty of time to ponder this, since as you stated originally they are not currently available. I've been trying to get an R10 since last August/September, on Garmin's wait list since then with zero info on when they will be available again, and I've even talked to customer support. I am about to give up on the idea.

That is very unfortunate.
