Rain Gear Pants or No Pants?

I don't know much about rain gear for since we don't get that much rain here. 3-5 inches a year.

However I purchased a like new golf bag the other day, and there was a BAERskin rain gear set in it. Both pants, and hoodie pull over. It appears it was never used the way it was folded up.

This seems like a quality piece of rain gear. Just feels good. It fits me pretty well, and I might use it over my clothes as a wind breaker on cooler days.

Absolutely wear the pants. Never Pooh Bear it in the rain. 🌧️

Yes on rain pants, but more specifically Galway bay rain pants.

Main reason is that unlike others they don't go over, they just go on and are meant to be worn like normal pants. Makes things a lot nicer and they breath well, very waterproof. All the good stuff you look for.

This popping back up in the stream reminds me of the original question - rain paints or no pants at all? :ROFLMAO:

Rain pants. Unless it is over 75 and humid. I tried "breathable" rain pants and I think my hockey warmups were cooler.

I like Zero Restriction. I hear really good things about Galvin Green but they are $$

It depends upon the temperature. Below 70, I want rain pants.

I don't wear raingear as i find it a little cumbersome. I think if you have an umbrella you're mostly OK as long as it's not really torrential type stuff

Off comes the pants in the rain!! Is that what you meant by no pants?

To be fair I rarely ever pants when I golf outside if its 50 degrees I am in shorts as I grew up in CNY and you need to take advantage of any frost free temps when you can.

To clarify I wear shorts not a Winnie the Pooh situation you sickos

The rain paints are a must.

yes to the pants.

If you can swing it, this is a great option.

Even your hearty Canadian blood would have frozen in April at Hidden Creek without rain gear lol. It was TERRIBLE

I remember following along!

Where is @lambeau ? We played a round in pouring rain before the Data Exp, must have been 5-6C and pouring rain LOL. That was probably my suckiest one of the year (though a canned transfusion certainly hit the spot after).....It wasn't fun at all. But it's always more my hands that i worry about. My legs stay pretty dry

In Indiana i had brought some Footjoy and Puma pants that aren't rain gear, but are that material that doesn't drench really either

I was a person that thought he never needed rain gear. I wouldn't play if it was coming down hard enough to worry about it. Then I was on a trip where half of the reason for it was golf and it was a torrential downpour. I had to borrow a rain jacket and had no rain pants. It may have been the most miserable nine holes I've ever played.

I got home and purchased a jacket and pants right away. Specifically Galway Bay. Their pants gear is incredibly breathable and incredibly waterproof. Their pants also aren't meant to wear over normal pants. They are meant to be the only layer you need. They are fantastic. I've only needed them once, but I'm thankful I have them now instead of possibly being miserable next time something like this happens

I have Zero Restrictions rain gear. Two pairs of pants and several rain jackets. No effect on my swing.
So far I've been lucky and haven't worn them in anything worse than light rain or cold weather.

Were you with me during your most miserable round ever?

Sure was! But I was quit after 9 while you kept playing. Then we went back out to play some more after everything dried off and instead watched the greatest scramble round ever seen on THP lol

It was the Puma rain gear that got me through it.

Rain gear is like insurance. You never hope to use it but you're damned glad to have when it is needed.

If I took more golf trips to rainy places and we were going to play rain or shine, or if I was going to do even one bucket list trip to a place like Scotland, I'd invest in a really good set of rain gear (jacket and pants, along with a good rain hat and gloves). It would be worth it to not have a trip completely ruined, and to at least reduce the level of misery playing in those conditions.

Living where I do, and playing most of my rounds locally, I'd use rain gear anywhere from 0-1 times per year at most. If it's rainy and cold I'm not playing, and if it's rainy and hot I'm not even bothering with rain gear. It would be pretty hard for me to justify spending $700+ on a set of rain gear that's going to hang in my closet unused for years at a time.

Yes on pants and get a decent pair it is worth it.

Went to scotland and packed the rain pants - well worth the price of admission for those times you are going to play no matter what.

Yes on rain pants. I like the Galway Bay pants that you wear as regular pants not something you put over your pants.
I also have the same rain pants. Not cheap and you need to commit to wearing them the whole round as they are worn as your pants for the day. So, if the weather is going to be mainly rainy (October-May in Oregon) I'll wear them, otherwise I hope the pants\shorts are good enough. They are comfortable and breath well.

Always have my rain gear in my bag and not just in case it rains. There are times around here when the round starts out in the cold but by the time we make the turn it has warmed up significantly. Alternatively it could start out being warm and then drop and it is cold.I wear rain pants over shorts in those situations and when it warms up take them off , cools down put them on. It is great to have that option.
