My wife and I were out having a little Black Friday fun and while I was looking at sunglasses at Cabelas she told me i “have to try these”. They were Ray ban meta smart glasses. Put them on and they had music playing. Ok, that’s pretty cool. Then the sales lady comes over and shows me what else they can do. Take pictures and video, live stream to FB or insta, answer phone calls and send texts. Who knows what else. Well my dumb ass ended up buying them!

What do you guys think about such things? I know it’s frivolous but the thought of live streaming a round of golf just sounded fun.

They’re really cool. My company is in the works to partner with them for some AR stuff which could make them much cooler. But the baseline model we got to demo was pretty rad.

Working at a company that does this stuff we’re still 12-24 months out from the legit stuff for the masses is ready. What’s out there is cool because it doesn’t exist. But it’s in its infancy. It’s the flip phone compared to the iPhone. Probably 3-5 years from it being reasonably affordable for stuff that isn’t junk. But it’s coming. It’s the iPhone of this generation. By 2030-35 it will be what we use.

Cool but the conspiracy theorist in me wonders if this cooks your brain…probably not any worse than wireless earbuds. And then there’s the “if you’re connected to the net” then can your glasses be hacked to see and hear everything you’re seeing/hearing…

Or we can just enjoy them and not worry about it😄

Dusting off quite the old thread here, but I just bought a pair of these on a black Friday deal...figured it had a lot of features I'd like to use. Live streaming first tee of the Victory Cup? 👀

But I take walks around work campus a lot and that would be helpful for the audio aspect...and I do social media for a local company here and figured it would be a cool angle to add

**edit: Campus = VA hospital campus where I work

I want a pair. I think they would be fun for doing some live-streaming from the golf course.

I'll let you know how they go when mine get here...not sure how many rounds are left around here but I'll bring them to the range and capture some video for sure

This market still is in the perpetual 12-18 month mode. But there is so much cool stuff coming for consumers. The Metas are just the tip of the iceberg. They are really cool for what they do.

So you're wearing them for the Grandaddy? Can they censor unreleased clubs in real time?

I can see the appeal, it's basically the 2024 version of the GoPro camera but with more functionality. I imagine a lot of media/influencer types will use.

Im not super into it.

And TBH the more people that have them the less comfortable many will likely be with it I would guess. Some people are not going to want to feel like they are being recorded all the time by everyone around them , and some states may also have privacy laws requiring 2 sided consent?
