I remember the first time I saw him there in the early 2000s. I said “holy ****! It’s Pete Rose!” Then when I saw him again a year or so later I could not believe the coincidence that I saw him 2 years in a row. After the 3rd time in as many years, I realized that it was one of his primary sources of income. Casa Fuente and seeing Pete Rose were the two reasons I went to the Forum Shops.
Out side the planet Hollywood restaurant is where I remember seeing him. A coupon times. lol!! When I lived in Vegas one time my dad was in town. I asked “want to go meet Pete Rose” he said what.. then like a clock we went down to see him..

Damn. RIP.

He’s already in the only hall that matters

RIP Pete, I only caught the tail end of his career (why the heck were you on the Expos?), but always thought he was a great. My parents must have thought the same since they gave me the 'Pete Rose' haircut until I was at least 12.

Hope he finally gets in the Hall, but think it will still be 5+ years. MLB really has soured me with how they continue to punish Rose (yes, he deserved some of it), but when their biggest international star has a gambling scandal it quickly gets swept under the rug never to be talked about again.

One of my favorites as a kid. I honestly didn’t see this one coming. RIP

RIP Pete Rose.

This one hurts. Born in 81 he was my first favorite athlete I remember. I didn’t get to see the majority of his career but as a Reds house he was always talked about by my dad and became my favorite

Several years ago Jenn told me she was taking me to a show. It ended up being a night with Pete Rose where he just told old baseball stories. Was a great night it was.

Complicated man. Complicated life. RIP to the hit king.
Wow! That has to be a life memory.

Dang. Sad to see this. Pete was my childhood hero. He signed the same glove for me twice 40 years apart.

Sucks to hear. Legendary player in MLB. He hurt his chances to be in the HOF with his actions and character post ban. He was given a lifetime ban and that punishment was served. He'll be in in 5-10 years.

Differing viewpoint…
Sure… with all the talent or “hustle” he exhibited (and the hit record) maybe he deserved to be in the Hall. But…. his character sure didn’t deserve it. Yes… there are others in there with very spotty issues, but I think he kinda got what he deserved. He was responsible for his own personal prison.

Pete was who finally got my Phil’s over the hump. Never forget being at Game 6 of the ‘80 series with my Grandfather on the 1st line, 200 level at the vet watching Bob Boone drop that pop up and Pete being there to catch the bobble. Had to wait another 28 years for a championship but that one will always be special.

R.I.P Hit King

RIP, Pete.

Ohtani is innocent, LOL...

To be clear, I think Rose was basically an awful, often a horrible human being. But, he absolutely deserves induction into the HoF (even though MLB scorn and punishment was certainly warranted).

But, let's all go ahead and continue to assume that Ohtani's interpreter fleeced him, unnoticed, to make bets unbeknownst to his boss.

Sorry. I was indeed born on a day. But, it wasn't yesterday.

I don't think that's a very controversial take on it.

He was his own worst enemy. For every step towards reconciliation he took, he managed to do something to put himself right back where he was or worse.

I really do think that documentary is a must watch, because it gives a pretty good look into Pete as a person and it wasn't really pretty in a lot of ways. I came away feeling bad for him, but for a different reason than I always had.

Just downloaded it based on your rec. It will go nicely with the Randy Moss 30 for 30 I also just downloaded. Sports docs for me for a bit I guess.

I met Pete once and they often say don't meet your heroes but he was so down to earth. Signed a baseball for me without thinking about it and I was shocked with how down to earth he was.

I find it ironic that all the sports channels/radio stations talking about him and his baseball legacy are sponsored by some sort of gambling site. Rose was complicated but that is pretty rich in my book to lecture from a pulpit built on the same foundation.

RIP Charlie Hustle.

He will always stand with some of the game's greatest knockers. RIP

One of the biggest issues with the MLB hall of fame (and its dying sadly) is how they apply things both on and off.
Looking at the steroid era, there are players in and players out, some which actually were caught and disciplined are in, others based on Canseco book aren't.
Off the field stuff is sometimes okay and other times not.

THis is what happens when you have reporters with an agenda holding the actual vote.

Best hitter of all time. I Remember seeing him and talking to him a few times during his signings in Vegas. He was nice to us but he was doing his job so who knows.

Ted Williams on line one.

I have felt they should take voting rights away from the media for a long time. And I definitely agree there is some hypocrisy on who they let in vs who they don't. I'd vote for all the steroid guys.

I think Pete had a shot if he hadn't talked publicly at all, but he rubbed people the wrong way. Then you add in the alleged statutory stuff, what seems to be a very big case of habitual lying, and the lifestyle. I dunno. I just can't see it happening until people have truly forgot, meaning it won't be any time soon.

Let me rephrase....Best hitter I have ever seen. I'm going to go out on a limb and say you probably haven't seen Ted Williams either.

Only guy close to Pete would be Tony Gwynn or maybe Ichiro.

Pete was his worst enemy when it came to that stuff.
Although I will freely admit I bought his book My Prison without Bars.

Now this is going back nearly 20 years ago, but I once covered the HOF induction ceremony as a member of the media. The day prior most of the HOFers play in a golf outing in Cooperstown. That was the year Eck and Molitor got into the hall and same year as Pete's book. There were SOOO many questions to guys about whether he should be in, and that day, the resounding opinion from HOF players was no. I remember someone asked Gaylord Perry and he went off on a pretty good rant about it.

I don't know how much that sentiment has changed on the players side. But I agree with you on the timeline of whenever it happens.

Either way, I think the players need more control over the hall.
