Riviera Country Club in Fire Danger

The Riv is in the evacuation zone and is still very much in danger.
The fires are growing uncontrollably and are 0% contained.

Going to get much worse before it gets any better.

Seeing reports it got within a block of the course (Society of Golf Historians on X so take that for what its worth). Still absolute devastation for the surrounding areas

My daughter works for a LA based firm and recently relocated to Miami. She just texted me that the LA office burnt down. Crazy stuff.

As a former SoCal desert resident (Rancho Mirage), I left there to be close to my elderly mom, but have never left SoCal in my heart.

I was just watching a local news stream on YouTube, and they did a flyover near Riviera. It didn't get hit by the fires, yet. It looks like the fires stopped 2 streets over from the course, lucky the winds died down when they did.

So many homes on the Pacific Coast Hwy burned

They should move it elsewhere out of respect.

Yeah i agree with this , it's hard to imagine what likelihood there is now of even possibly hosting it there. Even if the course escapes unscathed so much of the surrounding area will just be gone.

They should just move it

Just a thought. Not sure if it is right or wrong. Leave it there and make it a huge local charity event.. the tour is supposedly about local outreach.. prove it.

It’s a good idea but I don’t know that it would work logistically. So much of the parking (attendees and volunteers) is off site in the surrounding areas that burned down. Getting people in and out would be a nightmare. Also how many of the volunteers live locally and just lost everything? Maybe move it somewhere else and still make it a charity event.

They could maybe delay it until later this year but would probably be better off just moving it. It will take a long time for this area to recover.

Doing it for charity yes, doing it at Riv probably not.

Housing and the infrastructure around there took a beating. The locals who lost property are likely filling every available place around. Utility companies will have line crews in the area for months and they too need housing. Massive cleanup operation will have contractors everywhere. Bringing players and fans into that area is not a good use of the public resources required to host the event, they have plenty other things to deal with.

I like your thought process and hope the tour finds a way to help. 👍

My daughter has lived in the area for 10 years and it's just awful. Spent the last few nights in Orange County. Pray for all those families

I agree with you. Have an event to raise money for relief efforts. It just shouldn’t be at Riviera for the reasons you stated.

They have officially moved The Genesis. No update to where but Riv will not be hosting

No real shock here. Wonder where they end up moving it to

They announced they are moving the Genesis to Torrey Pines

Is this a done deal? That f’ing sucks. Torrey is a crap course.. should have gone to Harding Park or something. That felt, Riv ish..

Haven't seen anything official but pretty sure it's happening. Makes the most sense logistically as they already have everything set up. I agree it's not a great course but not sure where else they could move it in such short time

Literally anywhere would be better..

I highly doubt they are going to play two tournaments at Torrey. They have the Farmer's this week at Torrey.

However, I think it is a lot about how many fans go to the tournaments and logistics of the venue. Harding Park doesn't seem to get a lot of fans to go watch. Perhaps it is the location and difficulty going there or parking capacity there is not great. In general, SF Bay Area doesn't have a large amount of fans to go watch tournaments. Not sure why.
