If I had to choose, it would be Scotland. My Scottish heritage. .. I would love to go back & see where my relatives came from. After playing golf at places like St. Andrews, I would spend a week just touring the countryside. (y)

And near by in your backyard is some of the most under rated great links....Dreaming of being back at Cruden Bay soon and Royal Aberdeen and Trump.
Fingers crossed my friend, fingers crossed it will happen this summer.

Have had 5 separate tour operators from different shops advise summer should be a go. Courses are slammed. Have tried to move a tee time or two but there is nothing available.

SW Ireland is a great place to start, but fly into Shannon as the driving is slow. A lack of freeways and poor quality of road generally means the getting around is difficult. But that just means you leave more time and stop for a wee Guinness or three regularly. Taking the slower route can be best.

I picked Ireland, I've always wanted to visit and the golf is just a bonus.

And do not forget England, Burnham, Saunton, Westward Ho, Trevose ,St Endoc makes a great road trip down the SW corner.

So 2019 was my last trip...and this was it....Burnham and Berrow, Saunton East and West, Royal North Devon, Trevose, Perranporth, St Enodoc, then around bend to hit one of my all time faves Pennard, and Royal Porthcawl cuz I'm already there......and the big finish with 36 at Sunningdale Old and New....all because I had to get to St Enodoc and the others were along the way......Iian at this place does deals very reasonably... www.countrywidegolfholidays.com

Yup, have heard much the same over here as well, everyone is gearing up for travel to kick back in again. And I for one can't wait.

Who has the best beer and pubs?

1. Ireland
2.SW England
3.NW England (Birkdale/Formby/Hoylake/Lytham St Annes)
4.Scotland

Done both and go with Ireland - much more to do in off time and can get on more courses easily. Did Scotland 2x and Ireland 1x in past and going back to Ireland first.

I will agree setting up an Irish trip is easy, setting up a Scottish if St Andrews is included is difficult.

Was due to play Saunton and Porthcawl this month, but the lockdown means they are only allowing members when they reopen, so I will have to wait until August.:cry::cry:

Love Porthcawl, I would highly recommend Pennard,

Ireland. Better pubs.

Scotland because I'm scottish.

Either, in a heart beat. I might lean Ireland since I've been to Scotland before, but I'd love to go back. Sorry @HarlettoScara
Absolutely no apologies needed my friend, both absolutely stunning places to go and play. I've never played in Ireland before despite being half Irish, so I would probably choose there as well just to have somewhere new under the belt.

I chose Ireland, have family in Tinahely. Beautiful little pubs there.

If we're talking strictly golf, Scotland. If we're talking about a true vacation with the opportunity to play golf, I'm going back to my Irish roots. Ireland is a bucket list for me, but if I had the opportunity to play The Old Course, I wouldn't pass that up.

Three ways you play the Old at St Andrews......much advance planning, luck of the ballot or getting in line at 3am to walk on. Unless you go off season.

I've looked into it, and I'd be that poor soul waiting in line at 3am trying to get a tee time. If for some reason I couldn't get in, there are way more courses in the area that are equally as good but don't have the history of the Old Course. Still, it would be fun just standing there trying.

I went in 2016 and I St. Andrews was my first stop. I was alone so I had to do the early morning line and I got there at 3am and was 9th in line. The guy who was first got there at 11PM. I was on the course by 10AM. Really easy actually.
