Lets say its fairly straight, between 270 and 300, not too much trouble, but a really wayward drive could cost you. What is your most likely play?
Are you more likely to play to a number to set up the next shot? Or do you get greedy and try to knock it on, or as close as possible?

I will almost always pull driver on a hole like that.

Depending on the trouble, if it's 300 I'll pull a driver, if it's around 275 I'll pull my 3 wood. Again, depending on the trouble.

I'll most likely pull driver, leaving an easy pitch. Which I will proceed to fluff onto the green, no where near the hole, & then 3 putt. Good Decision! HA!

I actually play a hole just like this at a course I frequently play at. It was nice and open before the green and really big green but OB left and right. I always pull driver lol

The first thing I look at on these short par 4's is risk/reward. The first hole at my home course is a bit above this yardage, but I always pull a hybrid because if I miss left...its in the water.

However, I have another 300y par 4 on the back 9 and I always pull driver as the left side is "open".

It would depend on the day. I might hit driver or hybrid, it would depend on how I was playing

I'm hitting driver no doubt.

Like Freddie said, it depends how I'm playing. Usually though I'm taking a shorter club that is less likely to miss the fairway. That being said, last one I played.. I blocked that thing so far right it never sniffed the fairway :/

I am going for it for sure. I have a better chance at chipping it close than I do from 100 or so out all day.

I'll play a mid iron in the fairway 99% of the time, the other 1%, I'll dunk one in the water

This has been a regular topic of discussion between myself and darthweasel. I'm in the camp that prefers to take trouble out of play and leave myself a full or 3/4 swing in.

Isn't easy par 4 an oxymoron!

Depending on what the trouble is, and where.
I might hit a 4 wood, then wedge, and hope to get out with a bogey.

Depends on the day I am having and how tight the fairway is. I have been known go 9 iron, 9 iron on a short Par 4, but if I am swinging well - I will pull driver and go for it.

So many times when I play conservatively it blows up in my face like that.

Good driving day, going for it. if driver is in time out, 3w or 3h.

Yes, but you are used to being wrong. Just because your score is almost always lower does NOTHING to enhance your argument...

More seriously, it has to do for me with what will result in my lowest average score over a period of time. When I play "smart" and play to a yardage, I routinely gaff the shot and end up with a double. When I take the driver, I probably average 4-1/2 shots per hole. With the 8 iron to 150 and then another in, I average 5-1/2 strokes per hole. For me it is definitively the wrong play to play "smart". Whereas Tequila averages like 3.8 per hole playing it smart, for him it is definitively the correct play.

If the only trouble is a wayward tee shot, then I'm going to decide on what to hit based on how I am hitting the ball that day.
However, that seems like a boring (and poorly designed) golf hole. Short par 4's should have risk/reward at the green complex, not just OB or H2O off the tee.

Driver every time, when ever I try and play safe with a 3 wood I hook the snot out of it and end up worst off

I'm very comfortable right now with a 4 iron in my hand off the tee. If there's trouble on any hole less than 360 yards, I'm more than likely going to hit the 4 iron and leave myself a reasonable club (7 iron or less) into the green.

At one of the courses I play there is a 265 yd par 4 hole that has a mote in front of the green. I normally hit my driver just short of the mote which leaves me with about 30 yds left to the center of the green, then I take either my 56W or 60W to pitch up as close to the pin as I can in order to have a shot at a birdie putt.

Most likely driver.

I'd still go driver most likely if it's the first time playing it. If I had played it before, I could rethink the shot and lay up with a 4 iron, get it to about 165 out and 7 iron in.

But my gut tells me why not try to pummel one up there with a driveable par 4

Short, fairly easy, par 4's

I ain't reaching that green no matter what, but I'd pick the driver as it's probably my straightest club off the tee.
If it wasn't quite so easy and there was trouble up by the green, I'd lay up with an iron or hybrid.

I'm with a few others, just depends on how I'm hitting that day. Driver is my least consistent club so more often than not I'm going to hit 3 wood or hybrid.
