Though Shot Scope already has (arguably) the most comprehensive collection of performance tracking products on the market, there has always been a small missing link in their lineup. Prior to today, golfers had to purchase a device, i.e., the X5 watch, to link their on-course performance with the Shot Scope dashboard.

While I think this is great, personally, the loss of the watch and the GPS statistics and (maybe I didn't catch it) the inability to check things in real time would lead us to some of the issues that we already have with the X5/V3/Arccos etc that you can miss shots even though it feels like the tag should have been identified.

Also, a lot of us don't keep our phone's in the front pocket when we golf.

I think this product will have a following, but I think the extra money that you would spend for X5/V3 would be well worth it. For 99 you get the dashboard (if I'm reading correctly) for twice that price you get the dashboard and the GPS watch.

I think genuinely Shot Scope would agree. With that said there are a lot of golfers that really like another product or simply don't like wearing a watch. This brings them into an ecosystem of data that in my opinion is superior to other offerings for less money.

I'm with @Daluteh on this one. While it's a great gateway to gain more Shot Scope users, I'm more than happy to pay a bit more and get a device that either clips to my belt or is worn on my wrist. The idea of needing to use my phone on every shot scares me if I'm being honest.

Yeah, which is I think a good point. Just like I said there are people who don't put their phone in their front pocket there are those who do not want to wear a watch - they already have H4 as an option for the extra 50 bucks at that. We're agreeing to agree. This is a great way to enter their ecosystem in order to collect data and then use that data to make yourself better.

It could totally be that they see this for 100, then go that's something I would really like to get into then they upsell themselves (as @GolferGal 's favorite thing on WGP) into something else and say since you're already here and looking to spend 100, spend another 50 and get GPS belt clip with distances or an extra 100 and get a watch version if you're into that.

If I ever have time, I'll use my phone to take pictures of my shots, where I landed, make fun of myself, video's so I don't have an issue with the phone personally but I would feel lost without having distance on my wrist.

For me the reason I switched from Arccos to Shot Scope was having to check my phone after every swing with Arccos to make sure the club registered.

But as JB said, there is going to be a market for this, and that's really all that matters because Shot Scope is such a great product IMO. This will let more people get introduced to the system, and enjoy the data at a reduced cost. For those much younger than I the phone is just another appendage to the body so I'm sure it won't be an issue for most. Plus, RFID technology won't takeaway from their bluetooth music streaming.

Another option could be a deal/promotion with a club manufacturer to include the technology with the purchase of clubs which further enhances SS's place in the market.

I think this is another great option for people to get into the ShotScope data tracking system. I've seen a number of people in the X5 thread say they either wouldn't want to wear a watch while playing, or those that already have a smart watch that don't want to wear a different watch while golfing because they lose their "health tracking" on their current smart watch.

This system is perfect for those individuals, as they already have a smart phone. This app with the tags will allow them to use their phone as a course gps device giving them Front/Middle/Back numbers, allow them to select hazards and get numbers to the hazard and/or carry numbers from where they are, get the full hole view, and tag their shots so they can get their stats through Shotscopes dashboard.

My question is as an X5 user, who already has the app installed on my phone, could I now use the app to see the aerial view of the hole? Hoping that this is a precursor to getting the aerial view on the X5 soon.

Arccos killer is the first thought I had in mind when we seen these at Ballyhack. I really like how they provide a option for every type of golfer and how they would want to track stats throughout the round.

So, these would be like the Arccos 360 sensors but much smaller.

It looks like you have to tag these versus just keeping your phone in the pocket. Is that accurate or do they tag automatically with your phone nearby?

From the article

"Golfers simply tap the tag to their smartphone before each shot, and the app does the rest."

I was wondering the same thing.

Wow. Love the idea. I already have an H4, but for someone that doesn’t have a shotscope unit yet, this would definitely be a great foray into shot tracking

This does look like a nice entry point for some. Plus, those that like using say the Grint app on their smart watch or another GPS watch it gets you both worlds

I think this an amazing addition to the already amazing lineup of products. This is one additional way to get yourself into their amazing ecosystem. They have these tags tied to a phone app, a watch, and a device for your belt. Really something for me everyone depending on your preferences.

I like the options that ShotScope gives its customers. However, I prefer to not have my phone in my pocket and prefer the watch hands down!

Really cool application for those that don't like the watch or the $99 is a more attractive price point.

Phone in pocket never seemed to bother me much. Do folks know if there is some kind of haptic response like the phone vibrating to confirm the club was tagged?

Not quite sure but bet @GavinwithaR1 would know.

Yep, you will get a short vibration to indicate a successful scan.

Game Golf is what immediately comes to mind- tap the tag to the device on your waist (in your pocket in this case) and keep going. Obviously a much better company that doesn't leave their folks high and dry like Game Golf did.

I'm still stuck on Arccos because of the ability to use my apple watch, but feel like ShotScope continues to offer a wide variety of options to the market and it's users.

Nice to see an option out there for those who want to track, but don't want to use the watch or laser. I prefer the ease of having the watch versus making sure I tap the phone each time, but others may feel different

Whaaaaaaaaat?! I’m 100% onboard with a GPS watch, but this is an awesome offering. As others have mentioned, aerial view offered for V3/X5 users?

Can I edit my putt locations in the app after each hole while I remember? That would be great.
Quick green popup, move putt and pin location, move to next hole.

What a great way of getting to the no watch crowd. Hopefully some of this bleeds over to the rest of the ecosystem for hole overviews etc.

I like the option but I went to Shot Scope to avoid my phone in my pocket on the course. Good price point for those that want the Shot Scope data and don't mind the phone in your pocket during the round.
