Shot Scope V5 Golf Watch Review

I'm still struggling a bit with mine, which i'll talk to the team about this weekend. Again, there are a couple of holes where it has me teeing off from the wrong tee box and showing 180-190yd drives.

I also need to figure out a way to have it catch more of my swings. I am sure there is a way to trigger the tags better, but i am averaging about 10-11 missed shots per round that i need to adjust for

I do love the analysis element of it---but i'm having a hard time adjusting to get good data entry. Like, my driving average is gonna show at like 220yds unless i can get this corrected. So it will mess up the numbers a bit
Out of curiosity, are you making sure the watch shows the right club after you hit off the tee, or out of the fairway? Or just kind of leaving it be and checking the watch after the round?

I had been thinking of getting one of these, but I hear too many stories of people running into problems. This seems to be the case regardless of the manufacturer.
It takes some getting used to in terms of "managing" it, but it's not overly taxing at all. I maybe see 2-3 misses per round total- the rest of the time it's on point and really not a HUGE issue.

Yes generally i am doing that but not every shot. It's very weird, when i played another course it had me select tees. It doesn't do that on my home club....and then it seems to record on certain holes from the wrong tees. I know people said it shouldn't do that, but it is doing it on a couple of holes (like my 8th hole on North---always has me teeing off from 330 instead of 390)

That's really weird, I can't say that I've ever had that happen. Will be interesting to see what Jen and Gavin say about it.

I miss between 3 and 10 shots a round. The worst days are when I'm wearing long sleeves, though I believe my glove my interfere at times too. The best days, it's only when I grab the club and get after it a bit too quickly for the watch to catch up.

It's doing it because it didn't actually record the shot (I think).

I just tried on the web dashboard and i was able to manually adjust to the back tee. Couldn't figure out how to do that on the phone

So that is good at least

I've been wearing layers here this time a year---that's good feedback --let's see if it's better in the summer!

We will sort this in 10 minutes on Sunday and then you can share out some of the learnings.

OK, it's interesting one of the holes (hole 8) played at about 390 and they had my drive coming from 330 which is the way forward tees. So my drive registered as 190yds rather than 250 or so. This one really stood out to me. I definitely hit it from the black tees.

I wonder if maybe it missed the swing or thought it was a practice swing (i may not have taken a practice swing that shot, can't recall), so then it just deduced i had hit my drive when i pulled 9 iron from 140

My guess is it has to use logic like that sometimes
Yes, if it misses your driver swing tag for whatever reason it the assigns it to a tee box that may or may not be correct based on what tees are loaded and which boxes the course chooses to use that day

My watch misses between 10-15 shots a round and I'm about ready to go back to Garmin after 150 rounds with the V5.

It would be great if ShotScope could add some sort of haptic feedback to remind me to tag the club. So frustrating.
The haptic bit is an interesting idea. Would likely take those 10-15 misses down to maybe just one or two if you know that tag was read.

I’ll echo @jlew. This is a bit of learning curve, and a bit of ongoing management, but man, that effort in is so worth it to get the insights into your game. Now that I have a system of my pre shot routine, I’m typically in the 0-3 shots missed every round. With the ability to track your wcore manually, the discrepancy is easy to find post round

I'm still thinking about it, lol. As I would love to have that kind of data.

Thankfully you’ve got 52 pages of insights into seeing the full picture of it

Played yesterday and it missed two shots. Both tap in putts

I played yesterday with my Garmin S62 and had Club Prompt turned on. Basically, this allows me to select which club I hit after I hit a shot and before I hit the next one. That gives me time while I'm walking to my next shot to enter the club I used. ShotScope does not give you the chance to enter the club used in between shots. Garmin knows the location of my shot, even if I forget to enter which club I used. When I go into Garmin Connect to edit the round, it knows from where I hit the club so all I have to do is enter the club.
The SS software should do the same thing. If it misses a shot, I have to remember the location of the shot when I do the edit and enter the location and the club used. During the edit after round, SS should show the location of the shot and prompt me for which club I use if it missed the tag. It knows the location of the shot and should know I made a shot.

Would be a game changer for me.

I went to the website and their tags don't correspond for all of my clubs.

For example, I don't have any hybrids, nor do I have a 4,5, or 6-iron. I also have two LW's.

You can use the tags however you’d like and tag the name of the club accordingly. So your 2nd lob wedge could use a hybrid tag, and you can name it 60° or whatever

Okay, that is good to know, thanks.

For example, I use an X tag in my 5w, but it will show up as my 5w in my stats tracking

The watch is great. Fast, responsive, accurate. Just the shot tracking I’m having some issues with.

My watch is consistently missing 25-30 shots per round and also picks the wrong club about 30-40% of the time. I’m thinking I got some bum tags or something. It’s been every round I’ve played. 12+.

Yesterday I kept a journal of every shot that I took on the course just so I could compare with the watch. It wasn’t even close.

Are you a very fast player?

If you just pull the club, take a practice swing and hit fast, it doesn't always have time to sync I've found

I chip very fast and it misses them

Tags can be checked using the TAGs function in settings to confirm that they are being recognized. Most missed shots fall into a couple of categories. If using the Auto Putting Mode, when choosing the number of "putts" at the hole to mark its location, you must include every time you used the putter even if one or more of those times was from off the green, not just official "putts" taken from on the green. The system assigns them to either "putts" or the Short Game based on the location, and that can be adjusted during editing.
The other possibility is how the club is being gripped such that the tag is too far from the watch band to be sensed. It can be because one has choked down too much, or, as a user on their Facebook page realized, he was gripping the club at the very end such that the tag was almost under the pad of his thumb and not extending into the wrist area. Some have resorted to tapping the watch band with the tag to make sure it has been sensed. I've never had to do that and rarely do my shots get missed. If how you grip the club is the issue, once the club has been sensed, and you can tell that if you have the Show Club setting enabled, you can go back to gripping the club however you usually do.
If you just pull the club, take a practice swing and hit fast,
@MtlJeff That pretty well describes how I play and yet my watch rarely misses a shot.
