Because it always happens when we're away from home, but our furnace decided to misbehave while were out of town recently and it was either due to the gen 1 ecobee or control board (4 years old).

Board replaced by a friend and the ecobee wasn't able to control the furnace so he dropped a cheap thermostat in to get heat running, leaving a dodgy ecobee for me to figure out.

I have the sensors for all rooms which was one reason why I'd gone with it so it feels like I should replace with a new one but they're not cheap now ($250 for top, $190 for next one). Nest is $99, but I'd lose out on using the 5 sensors I have.

Ecobee want to offer a discount (20%) or trouble shoot mine but that means hooking it back up.
