Srixon ZXi Irons – ZXi4, ZXi5 and ZXi7

5/29 round recap - Soggy conditions

I've been battling wrist issues and its been raining non-stop here. So not much golf, but I did get out today with my trusty ZXi5 irons.

The course was super wet – it had rained all day yesterday and was still drizzling for like the first six holes, so I wasn’t expecting great results out of my game. But these irons handled it like champs. Even with the wet turf and some mud on the ball, the flight was still really solid. The ball just seemed to cut through the mist and stay online more often than not, and I didn’t notice any big loss in distance or weird fliers, which kinda surprised me.

The highlight of the round for me was definitely holes 4, 5, and 6 – went par-par-par, which for me is pretty rare 😂. On 4, I hit PW from about 120 out and it sailed high, landed soft, and stuck about 5 feet from the pin (thank you XV Divides). Missed the birdie by a hair. Then on 5 I had about 105 in and used my AW – same thing, really high, soft landing, and stopped 8 feet away. Again, just missed the putt, but I'll take par. Then on 6, I flushed a 9 iron from around 135 and it stuck within 9 feet. Those 3 approach shots my swing path felt good but on 2 of them I did not feel like I made stellar contact but the height and flight were awesome nonetheless. These irons just launch the ball so nicely and stop it fast. Keep in mind this is only 5 yards difference from normal despite the conditions.

I definitely caught a few off the toe – especially on 7 and 12 – and the ball still carried decent and stayed on line enough that I was putting for par instead of having to scramble from the junk. There’s a lot of forgiveness packed into these clubs. They look like players clubs at address (really clean topline and not too chunky), and really come through when you need it.

The feel is also top notch. I wouldn’t say I have the most "refined" feel in the world, but even I could tell when I struck one clean with these. There's this kinda smooth, solid thump when you get one right, and it’s really satisfying. The feedback is clear, but not harsh. Even the mis-hits didn’t sting the hands, which I appreciated with the damp weather today.

Overall I’m super happy with the ZXi5s. They look great, they feel even better, and they definitely gave me more confidence on approach shots today. I’d recommend them to any mid-handicapper like me who wants some help without swinging shovels. These are staying in my bag for a long while after performing in these conditions today. Very versatile.

Damn I just looked at GHIN and realized I played more rounds in February in New York than I have in May. The weather has been that bad.

Same here.

I’m really starting to get a handle on my misses. I don’t know if this comes with experience or if the clubs contribute to this but I can feel the feedback. A lot of times I know “oh that’s going left” or “that was off the toe” immediately. Even with my old zx5 I wasn’t able to do that.

Probably both experience and the clubs?

Both if I had to guess

I think I'm going to get the ZXiU 2 and 3, bend them one strong and leave all of my woods home for 2 of my local courses.

I had a terrible ball striking day today with the irons, the ZXi7s kept me somewhat in the game, at least to the point of avoiding a complete and utter implosion.

Strangely I hit the driver (and mini) quite well today off the tee, it’s always odd to me when you can find a swing with one club and not another.

I carry the 3 in this and I love it. Some days I carry the 7w, other days it’s this. I’ve done a ponder in a 2i, but I havent pulled the trigger.

I loved the ZXu. The ZXiU is a next level

Be a touch careful bending that ZXiU 2U strong. You’ll lose the minimal offset and muck with the bounce. If this is a tee club only, the latter is less of a concern.

There was used set of the ZXI 4 I hit the 8I so smooth. Hit the ZXI 5. And really liked it. after the season I am going to get fitted and Srixon is at the top of the list for new irons. I am thinking blending ZXI 5 and ZXI 7.

Some really tough conditions today. Played the irons well. The feel continues to surprise me. Soft but solid and I can't really differentiate the feel of the 3 different irons when struck towards the center

Range today. These irons are so easy to hit compared to what my pea brained self thought I was getting. There is a drop off in forgiveness between the 5 and 7 when struck on the toe. The 7 will turn more and for my delivery the ball climbs. Its not a massive "miss" but thats the difference.

The 4 is a driving iron off tee but so easy to hit to target off deck. THIS 4 IRON IS EASIER TO HIT THAN THE PING i530 5 iron. There! I said it.

Those of you who got the set gap wedge, how has it been for you? Did it being 50* cause any gaping issues? Do you use it for full shots mostly...or both full shots and around the green.

I'll hang up and listen....

I do have the A Wedge. With the large Sole interaction find i only use it for full shots. Gapping is fine since next Club is a 54⁰ Ping Glide

I use the 7s AW often on full, partial, and chips. It rivals the Apex 11 iron as the best GW ive ever had in a set.

Amazing on full shots and pitches. Have only started using it recently around the green so can’t report yet on that.

My sw is a 54 so gapping wasn’t an issue.

The short irons in the ZXi7s are nothing short of excellent. I love the feel and control

Scattered lightning and thunderstorms kept me from playing this morning. Made it to the range and managed to hit a fair around of balls. The amount of control in these irons is likely the best I've experienced so far in my days of playing golf. I hated a split set idea, and yes I can tell the difference in the split at the 7-8 iron on short shots due to the sole, but visually I can't see much difference

These irons remain incredible. The turf interaction is great. I really feel the confidence in them.

My swing lessons have worked in changing my overall connection with these, which has made me less of a sweeper. That in turn has given me some really good hits with them with great spin and stopping power.

Beat up range balls that are about 10 percent shorter than my gamer didn't stand a chance. I don't have any desire to hit these full speed. I can. Its a nice tight draw. But these are so easy to play flighted, controlled shots. The feel is excellent. The sound makes people turn and look. They look great in the bag. They have competition hahahahaha (I'm an iron huzzy)

Iron Fluzzy... 😉

Man, the ZXi7’s were pretty electric this week. Robust contact a majority of the time, towering flight when I wanted, and really quite easily hitting the numbers I was chasing.

I had a lot of fun letting the dynamic loft shift a little bit in an attempt to hit balls higher to a pin I knew I could easily cover with that stock iron shot. That kind of confidence and freedom that is supported by the Tour VT Sole to get after the ball whatever way I want is really fantastic.

I need to give a big shoutout to the ZXi4 4 iron as well. It’s not exactly the distance power GI that I’ve played in the past, but rather, a highly effective straight ball hitter that can let the ball dance a bit when it hits the green. I had a really challenging shot the other day from 217 yards uphill on a par 5. I opted for the medium risk shot and aimed just to the left of the pin. Well, swing path had a plan of its own, and my ball started out just right of the hole, drawing back to my aim line by the time it landed about twenty feet long of the pin, on the green,

I point out that shot because that’s exactly why I wanted that club in the bag. More often than not, while the application might not be exactly what I planned in my head, the results tend to end up in the same window - and the contact was RIDICULOUSLY clean and flush. I loved it.

The 7s are excellent in all aspects for control. I'm not sure the 4s aren't better than the 5s. Thats high praise.
