Srixon ZXiR and ZXiR HL: Expanding Performance to Every Golfer

The ZXiR is thick compared to the ZXi5. The trail side chamfer on the 5 does a good job of optically hiding how thick the club is. The R doesn't have that.

Blade length between the two looks very similar, with the R being a little longer. It has a more rounded end to give it that little extra.

The more I look at it, I think the shadow on the ZXi5 photo makes the difference look like more than it actually is. Definitely more meat on the R, as there should be, but it's not a shovel by any means. I'm really eager to hit these irons and see what that new material feels like.

Looking at it again, its not just the shadow. Part of the 5 is under the leading edge of the R. Here's a better one with the 5 on the left.

According to the specs on Srixon's website, the sole on the ZXiR is 1mm wider than the ZXi5, the topline is 0.5mm thicker, and the blade is 3.4mm longer (all measurements are for 7i). That's not a huge difference.

that's really cool how much info they provide, more OEMs should do that

Their comparison page is amazing with pictures and measurements

You're right it's not huge. That's why I think the trail chamfer makes a large visual difference. Also, the font and size of the number makes the R look even larger to my eye.

No it's not, pics are so missleading

From this angle the 5 definitely has a smaller effective sole because of the aggressive camber. Overall size is pretty darn similar.

I can't wait to hit the ZXiR.

I hit the ZXiR this morning. Total distance and ball speed consistency are fantastic. Spin and carry distance consistency lead me to prefer the ZXi5 and hopefully I'll be able to share some data from my virtual fitting soon. Another positive is you really can't tell the difference between the ZXiR and ZXi5 at address.

Have you tried the HL? Not nearly as loft jacked as the ZXiR

Srixon does a crazy job making all of their irons look incredibly similar at address. It's kinda magic.

I think they do that better than any other brand.

I have not. I was only sent the 5 and R (along with the 3DP Tour and X). I had better launch and peak height with the 5. I was getting over 100' peak height with the 5's so I'd be worried it would be too high with the HL being 1* weaker.

no doubt.
making a ZXiR not look out of place next to a ZXi7 is no small feat.

Almost like they're designed for combo sets 🤔
I remember on a podcast somewhere, the IR and the IR HLs were not designed to combo. But I think that makes sense.

Really awesome to hear! May I ask how the feel of the ZXi5 & ZXiR compared to one another and also compared to the 3DP's? I know totally different irons in every way for all 3 but really curious of your opinion.

This is actually why I chose the ZXiR HL's vs the ZXiR's for the Srixon experience. I get already such great height with my ZX5 MKii's but my thin shots do tend to get a touch lower than I want but maintain good spin. Hoping the ZXiR HL's can help with that miss without losing any distance and worst case I can maybe bend them stronger if needed.

It would be tough to combo them because the loft differences between the iR and HL are pretty significant. It would require a lot of bending and maybe some weird club choices where you'd have two of the same iron to make the gapping work.

I think it would be easier to combo the ZXi4/ZXiR and/or ZXi5/ZXiR HL, because their lofts are more similar. But then the question becomes - why? If you need the extra help/forgiveness that the ZXiR/HLs offer, why eff around with combo sets, other than just to be an internet golfer?

Believe this was possibly discussed on a Cool Clubs YouTube video(hope I dont get yelled at for saying any company names haha)

They mentioned how similar the loft packages were when and could possibly be a solid combo set for someone looking to max forgiveness in the longer irons but wanted a touch more precision at the bottom of the bag without going players forged 1pc ZXi7's

If only I had Game for a Z Blade and 7 Combo. 🤤

Not the IR and HLs, but as mentioned the 5/iR or 4/HL, or even the i7/i5

Oh man I'm really the wrong person to ask about feel. To me they all felt very similar unless I chunked it.

As a 13 handicap, "precision" isn't exactly a strong component of my game. I deal a lot more with mishits than I do with worrying about whether I'm 7 feet or 3 feet from the pin from 120 yards out, I'll gladly take the forgiveness in my scoring irons and wedges.

I'd argue that a high handicapper gets more "precision" from a club that's more forgiving. A low 'cap who hits the middle of the clubface every shot can focus on really dialing those shots in, but most of us mid/high handicaps would benefit a lot more from a club where you don't see a huge falloff in distance when you miss the middle of the face.

While I whole heartly agree with you on this. The mindset of golfers is not that way haha. Ego and the cool factor get in the way of what's best for our games.

I am a prime candidate of it myself until my recent bag and now the Srixon experience which my bag way built solely on forgiveness of my many mishits & common misses

Gonna say it again, the descent angle with the ZXiR HLs is insane. I had one approach shot stop right next to its ball mark on the green today, 3 others that were within a foot of it. These irons have no trouble whatsoever holding greens, even when they're not particularly soft/receptive.

That's awesome! Imagine that will for sure come in handy as it gets hotter and greens get firmer.
