We’re looking at a family trip yo CA summer 2026 and want to include the Monterrey Bay aquarium for our son, who wants to be a marine biologist, so I thought, why not play Pebble? Not like we’re ever all the way over there, probably my only chance. And of course the only way to guarantee a time is to stay in one of their hotels, but holy mother forking short balls are they expensive. Like 2-2.5 times more than we’ve ever paid for a hotel, and we’ve stayed in some nice places.

If you played Pebble, did you stay on site to lock in a spot? Was it worth it? I know I can take my chance, but for a once in a lifetime situation I’d hate to be there and miss out. We “could” afford it, but damn.

If you’re a single there’s a solid chance of getting on without staying.

I would be a single. Probably a Thursday afternoon or Friday morning. But in
mid-July.

I played Pebble Beach but did not stay on property. Played as a single and called and confirmed the two days before. This was a few years ago so not sure if their process has changed.

Been a handful of times and only have stayed on property…there is definitely an ease of use but if I was solo I probably wouldn’t stay on site again. It’s stupid pricey

I played Pebble and Spyglass a couple of years. Wife and I stayed on property. The trip was a gift from my in-laws. Going solo, I’d try to get on by calling a few days ahead, if that is still an option. If I couldn’t do that, I might spring for one night, if I had not played it, and play on day of arrival and one of the other courses the next day.

My suggestion is to stay in Seaside, Ca. Easy 10-15 minute drive to aquarium / PB. Way cheaper than by the pier, etc. If we go there for the weekend, we stay there. Not fancy in any way, but who cares. Its just a place to sleep.

My advice is to definitely not stay in Seaside LOL.

Just trying to help. Perhaps you have better ideas. It has worked for us on weekend trips multiple times.

This was several years ago, but I was able to get a tee time at Pebble several months in advance without staying at one of their properties (for a foursome). Not sure if this is still available, but I worked with their reservations department on dates that didn't require a stay. They had numerous dates throughout the year that didn't require a stay, just had to find one that worked for our group. We ended up playing in August, the week before the they hosted the US Amateur that year. I don't know if they still do this, and if they do how far in advance they will share the dates, but it never hurts to ask.

FYI - current policy is only guaranteed if staying on property, minimum two nights stay most of the year, three nights minimum during peak summer months. Can call two days out if not staying on property.

So in effect to guarantee a spot in summer you have to spend multiple thousands on top of the $695 round plus caddie, etc. Rooms are four figures per night. It’s nuts.

That is the same published policy that was in place back when I went, the dates that were available without a stay requirement were not advertised or made public in any way other than by directly asking someone in the reservations department. The person I worked with sent me a list of dates, and I was able to make my reservation for a date on that list several months in advance. They might not do that anymore, but it wouldn't hurt to check. The only way I found out about it was from a friend that knew someone that worked in reservations.

It’s been a couple of years but we stayed at Del Monte for a couple days. It wasn’t cheap by any stretch but was reasonable and convenient with the resort set up. I played there while we were there. Kids could swim and had a ton of fun. Daughter and I did the Monterey bay aquarium and it was a blast.

I have stayed and played. Currently have connection to go at discount and not stay, buy have no plans to do such. FYI though. PB played in afternoon will be the longest round of your life. Play early if possible.

We played as a foursome at Spyglass and stayed in Carmel by the Sea. You can find some slightly more reasonable room rates there than on property. This was quite a few years ago. I had won a sales contest at work with a promised round at Pebble as the prize. My boss called 3 months in advance to try to book tee times and was laughed at! They were able to get us out on Spyglass. Since you will be a single, it should be a simpler matter to get on, but I would still call plenty early.

Yeah, best to stay up on stuff like that. Also, at least when we were out there, 17 Mile Drive between Carmel and Monterey was a toll road if you just wanted to drive it for sightseeing purposes. It wasn't really that much, but if you have a tee time at any of the courses there, or a reservation at a restaurant, the drive is free.

Last time I played, I played with my buddy who works at Spy. We had one of the employee rounds, which is always at the bottom of the tee sheet. 5 hours to play 10 holes LOL. Thankfully I’ve played it a few times now, so wasn’t disappointed not to finish, just happy to get out there.

A very weak link in my golf played resume in Cali. Have only been once. A stay at Spanish Bay with play at the 3 and also Old Del Monte. It was a business trip too so company paid. Our round at Pebble was a story I could write a book on. Ha We were 6 so I played with just one other of our group. And the other 2 were interesting. They had between them about $100 of golf clubs. Yet here they are shelling out $275 each at PB. This was 1993. I asked the one guy Jose why he was playing PB. He says he hit thee noombers. I say what is that. He says he won 10,000 hitting thee noombers, and he promised himself if he ever hit thee noombers he would play PB with his best bud. They each shot about 125. Best shot Jose hit was 7. I hit a little half wedge to 20 foot. He hit his 7i best he ever has hit that POS club and as it was at the pin it was still 50 feet in the air. Spash in Carmel Bay. It was a 6 hour round with Jose.

I was a single and we stayed off site at the Hyatt in Carmel by the sea. Highly recommend as the place was beautiful. Stayed on Hyatt points.

As far as getting a round i was very up front and called them. I explained the situation about my wife wanted to surprise me with a round but did not know about staying on property to play. The lady I spoke too asked when I wanted to play and about what time. :10 later she go me a tee time in the AM with a 3 some. This was 2 weeks prior to our trip. She said this was great as they needed a filler for the tee time. Was a great experience and would do it again it I could. Highly recommend! The people were all so great and professional. In fact they drove my wife out onto 18 to walk the final hole with us. Enjoy!

Looks like a really nice Hyatt and location, and we could get a high end suite there for about 1/4 of what they charge at Pebble. Thanks. We will give that one a strong look.

I went as a single and they helped me book ahead of time. It wasn't a problem... if you have 3-4 people it could be much more difficult depending on how full they are. We played the round quickly EXCEPT for 18. That took close to an hour and a half!!!!

Never played, but my brother got a walk on time as a single in the summer. It's just the luck of the draw. However there are plenty of good alternative like Spanish Bay, Spyglass and Cypress. Don't forget "poor mans" Pebble at Pacific Grove of Pebble does not end up working out.

As a single I’d try and stay offsite. We like to stay at Quail Lodge in Carmel Valley. Course there is awesome too. Take the missus to Refuge Spa (it’s worth it after a round).

It’s a wonderful place and Pebble will be a round you won’t forget.
