HOT TAKE Stop making iron sets with the driver name, OEM's.

I agree with Hawk's sentiment but I think we're in the minority on this one. OEMs are targeting the masses with the yearly lineup naming. Folks here are more educated on equipment than the vast majority of golfers, who will match their driver & FWs/hybrids, even irons sometimes, when they refresh their bag. Usually have a fresh new hat to match in the spring too.

First, this came to mind because of QI Max, but it's not just a Taylormade thing. Other companies do it as well. Other's don't.

I have no doubt there are reasons equipment companies are doing this, but to me it's a dated look. Hate to say it, but it also seems to make the irons look less impressive too, especially when it's just a bucket for GI/SGI irons to go in.

Give them a unique identity. They are unique clubs and don't really share technology with drivers.
THANK YOU!

I kind of think this is not worth losing sleep over. They name it what they name it.

I have never really thought about it. I can also never purchased or not purchased a golf club simply because of it’s name.

I get it but I kinda like the naming convention. It keeps the releases together so it’s that much less to remember. I might be able to get by with remembering the equipment in my bag’s release years but I like looking at equipment and my memory is starting to not be as sharp.

I kinda agree and kinda don't. Fence squatter. I can see why they do it to push the line and they have different tech than some of the other offerings. Hybrids get lumped into woods though they are really in their own class?

Agree

One of the best takes ever on THP

This is absolutely perfect! Couldn’t agree more.
