Inspired by a Bryson video on YouTube, I started swinging as hard as possible with my driver as an experiment.
I got the CHS up to 85 mph from 78 still making good hits. However center contact was less frequent and smash factor dropped from 1.44 to 1.41. The ball flight was high and slightly fading to the right. If I set up with the face closed the flight was straighter.
Anyway this suggests that the face is opening. However I have seen comments from fitters that a shaft that is too light will actually close faster and promote hooks.
The shaft I have now is a 40g 5.0-A Evenflow.
