I was in a golf shop the other day and someone had trwded in some Ping i3+ irons.
The shop owner let me hit them on the range.
Those things are straight!!.
Even my toe hits came back to the target and were just a little shorter.
The bad thing is the irons were about 8 yards shorter than what I'm hitting now.
Also, they fly super high.
I've always had a high ball flight, but these were ridiculous.
The shop owner told me I shiuld find some i3 blades.
He said the blades aren't really blades and are easy to hit.
Does anyone have some stories on the i3, i3 blades, i3 Oversize, and i3+?
Thanks

Did you make sure your lie angle was correct? When ping fits their clubs, they color code the irons. You should she a colored dot on the neck. If it's white, I believe it's standard lie. I had a set of i3's as my first serious iron set. Then I upgraded to the ap1.

Typically black dot is regular. White dot is 3 degrees upright.

Duh....!!! That's what I meant. Couldn't remember if it was white or black.

These were white dot.
I had always been told that I would need black or green dot.
The shop owner said he would adjust the lie for free if I decided to buy them.
He is a certified Ping fitter. He has pictures of him and Karsten in his shop. He was Ping seller or fitter of the year a few years ago.

I had a set a few years ago. The distance was the reason I moved to another set of irons. They were a club shorter than the other irons that I had been playing. Other than that, they were a very solid feeling set of irons.

Played them for a number of years - IIRC, the O-size and blade were released about the same time, with the blades having a smaller footprint and a bit less offset than the o-size.
i3+ had a different sole grind and a larger tuning port, supposedly to help get the ball up faster. It might have, but they proved shorter than the i3's they replaced. Ping heard us and offered an adjustment to those that asked. Made it all right.

Still a great clubhead, reshafted mine a few times as my swing changed over 10+/- years. Playable by + to mid-digit handicappers.

Now you've got me thinking about picking up another set and tinkering.

I've test hit a lot if irons.
Played Mizunos and Pings the most.
This is the first time I have ever felt a club like this.
The bad shots aren't that bad.

Black and green are 3 spots apart - green is 2.25 degrees upright.

Black standard
Blue 0.75 upright
Yellow 1.5 upright
Green 2.25 upright

At least until a recent change to go to 1 degree gaps now :)

My dad made the switch back to lefty, and I found him a used set of i3+ a few years ago. He made the transition without skipping a beat, and he raves about how easy these are to hit.

Thanks Dave.
The yellow is a new one to me.
It was around 15+ years ago they measured me.
