So saw a orthopedic specialist today and am starting PT for an "impingement" of my left shoulder.

Also was diagnosed with tennis elbow and got one of those braces to wear on the forearm.

Anyone have success with these braces?

Getting old sucks.

I've had it in the past and had it this year again. Extremely painful and the only way I could play is with two straps. I had to tighten to the point where it almost cut off the blood circulation, did this for every full swing shot for about 5 weeks. I also used a Theragun and iced the heck out of my arm.

Man I am on the same boat. Have golfers and tennis elbow. (Medial and Lateral). I bought a brace from Walmart and use it when it gets painful. For the most part if I stretch and don’t over use is it I am fine. It actually hurts less when I’m playing golf. It’s more when I’m working out and lifting weights or lifting the baby’s car seat in and out of the car where I feel it most

Oh man, I hope your pain isn't too bad, too long, and you recover quickly!

I got tennis elbow pretty bad in 2019. if you look back though the Graphite Challenge experience thread from November of that year, you can see some posts of me complaining and me wearing a Staminapro patch in just about every picture.

I no longer suffer from it, which I attribute to two main things: (1) switching to Recoil shafts. They soften the impact without sacrificing feel, which allows me to hit off mats without concern or pain. (2) using the Theragun Mini pursuant to their instructions. 15 to 30 seconds on each side of the elbow (think forearm/triceps) and I do that twice a day after a weekend of golf, or once when I feel a twinge or if the Theragun is near by. It has helped tremendously. Another suggestion is to try to avoid hitting off mats that are thin and sitting on concrete.

Getting old does suck! I have had it flair up occasionally and have had success with the brace. It takes it away.

I also give it some ice when I am done.

I had it. I was playing golf with my father in law who was a practitioner. He grabbed my elbow pushed in with his thumb and said does that hurt. Yes, I screamed. He let go and said does it hurt now? Not only did it not hurt but the pain had gone. Unfortunately, that’s a short term temporary fix. I did use a brace for a short while and it helped a little. I did switch to graphite and now no longer have it. I’m not saying graphite cured it or stopped the aggravation, but lots swear graphite help with aches and pains.

The tennis elbow thing is a tendinitis issue or inflamed tendon, and the only thing that resolves it fully is rest and no activity. I can't do that, if you can, great. If you can't then therapy and the brace then ice and anti-inflammatory meds is all you have. The impingement worries me more. Mine got so bad I ended up with surgery on my shoulder. Not fun recovery on that one. Sorry, and sure hope therapy works for you.

Tried a brace but that doesn't fix the problem only alleviates pain. What for me has worked extremely well is the Theraband Flexbar, a few weeks with this thing and at least for now don't have any issues.

What's the impingement in the shoulder? I was diagnosed in November with bursitis and tendinitis in my right shoulder. Fortunately, I'm not playing golf again until late March at the earliest and have chosen to rest and do so exercises on my own.

Never had any tennis elbow issues. Hope that gets better for you too.

I echo your last sentiment. My body reminds me every day.

Long time sufferer going back to my tennis days.
Switched to graphite shafts.
Got a Theragun mini.

PT and a Cortisone shot helped me a ton with tennis elbow. I had it my senior year of college and could barely throw a baseball any more. Name a rub on pain reliever and I had tried it up to that point, along with ice, heat and stim.

I've had success rehabbing lateral epicondilitis. Always involves Voltaren Gel applied as directed, ibuprofen, stretching to the point of pain, food, sleep, lots of barbell curls or chinups to the point of pain. All done daily. Usually takes about 10 days or less. The compression helps during the day when not performing the curls or chinups.

I had it for awhile and really the only thing that helped was rest and switching back to my graphite iron shafts.

I never got comfortable with the straps. Good luck with yours.

I have struggled with tennis elbow for many years using PT on multiple occasions. I have used my Theragun Mini for the last 3 months and can say it has helped immensely. I use it on the entire forearm as well as gently place on the inflamed area which I am told helps break up scar tissue. I use the foam attachment as it is a little gentler than the stock ball that came with the unit.

Mine flares up from time to tome very mildly. Usually after a driving range session, hitting off mats, or back to back rounds of golf. Typically the several days rest between rounds is enough, but if it flares up I just ice and ibuprofen.

I second what @blugold said.

That protocol worked for me minus the Voltaren gel. Lots of curls and chin ups. I also now use copperfit compression elbow sleeves while I lift, seem to help, might be a placebo I dunno. I also got one of those grip trainer deals that I squeeze at my desk. Again, don't know if it was effective or not, but curls and chin ups were for sure.

Mine flares up once in a while, especially when I'm playing a lot of golf and lifting weights several times a week. As several have already said, the Theragun has been a huge help.

I had it when I first started golfing from hitting off mats. I still get an occasional flare up. Resistance bans and Voltarin really helps.

Give this video a watch, it's not long but gives you the gist. This is one of the few methods that actually address and fix the actual issue instead of treat the symptoms. Anti-inflammatory creams/gel and massage guns might make you feel better, but they won't make you better.

Pin-firing technique.

I wear a copper fit compression sleeve on my elbow and have no issues now. I had also switched to graphite in my irons, and having just switched back am wondering how the year will go.

Had my first PT session this morning and the range of motion, strength, flexibility etc. in my left shoulder, due to the impingement, is a lot less then normal. While the PT wasn't fun, I am actually excited about it as I am sure this will help my follow-thru, I am a righty, my swing and get back some of the yardage I have lost.
