That Post - 2026 Golf Ball Testing

There is a new Wilson ball coming very soon that might be worth adding. Hell, I’d say add the currently available Wilson Staff Model X. It might surprise you.

Can't wait to see how this data comes out
I had to perform some quick little path drills. When I first started swinging in warm-up this morning my club path was like 10° in to out. Did some drills and was able to get it back to the high end of my range at 5° in to out.

I'm going to try to get started now but I might have to scrap it for today.

Today I tested the Titleist Pro V1x. Below are the results:

The testing protocol I used is:
  • 5 - 50y shots with a Cleveland RTZ 58º wedge
  • 5 - Full shots with a Mizuno 243 Pitching wedge
  • 5 - Full shots with a Mizuno 243 7 iron
  • 5 - Full shots with Cobra Adapt Max K driver (my hip started bothering me so didn't want to keep hitting to get 10 or 15 like previous)
Full disclosure I hit 2 extra shots with each set, so I could take out the best and worst of the set.

(Trackman IO so all spin is real, not estimates btw)

Ok, let's get into it.

As mentioned earlier I rotation through my driver swing wasn't great. I worked my way through it but wasn't turning the ball over at all most of these were straight pushes that didn't take my usual draw shape. Big towering straight pushes with Driver. To date this is the highest ball flight and longest carry average of the balls I've tested so far. That high ball flight does make decent angle a little higher than I'd like to see at 43* definitely effecting roll out a bit.

Spin is in a good range. I the ball flight felt stable. Just more right than I would like. Mabye partially an alignment thing. I wasn't getting the draw shape I prefer so I started the ball right like normal and it just didn't float back to the center line. Launch is at the top end of my comfortable range at 16.3*. I'd much prefer to be around 14* with this particular ball I feel like then my flight would be a little flatter and probably longer total.

Feel off driver is firm.

7 iron:

7 iron is where things get a little interesting. Going into the test with PV1x I was certain I would see high towering flight with the irons. 86 ft is actually the lowest most pentrating ball flight I've seen with irons in a while. But my launch angle with 7 iron was on the low end of my range. I'd much rather be in a more normal for me zone of close to 18*. I think if I get launch to that more normal 18* range for me I'd see this ball apex over 100.

Ball speed was fairly average for me at 118. I'm not a high spin guy with irons so almost 5400 it's actually good for me some of the highest I generally see in this spot. Feel off irons is classic V1x. Firm, clicky, and it feels like it jumps off the face. It's not my favorite feeling ball if I'm completely honest. That's not to say it's bad there are just other balls I prefer the feel of a little more.

Love the spin, the trade off is feel.

Pitching Wedge:

This is where the story is for me. I'm seeing higher spin with PW than any other ball I test. This makes sense for me with PV1x the closer I get to the bottom of the bag the more spin I see with it traditionally. It's alwasys the results with wedges that make me want to play this ball. Launching it low but it still climbs and makes a soft 50* landing on the green. Spin is up in a good spot for me. Dispersion wasn't as good as I've had in some other tests but all of these would be on a green. Can't be too mad about that.

Still not as big a fan of the feel as I am the results.

Absolutely no surprise for me here. PV1x is the best ball I've tested from this range. It always is. Spins like a tasmanian devil, launches low, penetrating flight. This ball is going to hit once and stop on a dime. PV1x has always been my favorite ball around the green. And this test proved it again. The results here are as good as I can ever hope for.

Again, I think if you ask most people PV1x is going to be a favorite for greenside shots. It is for me.

Summary:
Testing the Titleist Pro V1x provided a fascinating look at how a ball can offer elite greenside control while surprisingly pushing my driver carry to new heights. Here is the quick tldr:
  • Driver Distance & Stability: This ball produced my highest flight and longest carry average to date (267 yards) Despite a straight-push miss, the spin stayed in a functional range, proving the stability of the TPT Nitro shaft even when I couldn't fully engage my rotational pivot.
  • 7-Iron Performance: A surprisingly penetrating 86ft flight—lower than my typical window—that delivered the highest 7-iron spin I've seen yet (nearly 5400 RPM).
  • Full Pitching Wedges: The clear spin leader of the test so far. It provided a soft 50° landing angle on the green and produced a 140-yard average carry.
  • The 50-yard shots were the highlight of the test for me: It "spins like a Tasmanian devil" on quarter-swings while maintaining a penetrating flight. It hits once and stops on a dime, cementing its place as my favorite ball around the green.

Looks pretty good especially for an off day

Dispersion was a little gross. Especially with pitching wedge. I really don't know what to make of that seven iron
Your distance looked nice and consistent though can't wait to see what the VS black turns out though as I finally got to his the new Bridgestone balls and really liked them I think you are going to be plenty surprised with the Maxli Numbers too when you get them I hit them against prov V1 and Prov1x and they hung in. Now your have a much better and faster swing then me so it will be nice to see if that trend holds

I played the Tour BX to great success previously, and I've been following the VS test thread closely. Some of the feedback in there has got me very, very excited to get a VS Black

Got some MaxFli Tour X on the way so testing will continue hopefully next week. I need to grab some 2026 Tour BX, too.
I have a hard time believing the Maxfli will beat the new CT (but who knows), however I think they will impress based on price point

When you say 'beat' what would that look like to you? Maybe this is better for a new thread but what does a "winning" ball look like for you?

I just mean in your eyes. You seem to love the CTX and it's the front runner, so whatever it means to you. I will be following though as the Maxfli is my current gamer and curious how it stacks up

Oh me too. I plan on buying CTX 26' to direct compare to Tour X.

Nothing will beat the cost of the Tour X but I'm willing to entertain it, if it nets me more ball speed :geek:

Staff Model X also has my attention.

Arrived home from work tonight and found a delivery from my guy @PiratePenguin

He sent me some Maxfli Tour X to test out. I'm hoping to be able to get to the simulator tomorrow and if I do I'll test these out using my testing protocol and add them to the data set in this thread. Believe it or not I've never actually hit a modern Maxfli ball. I'm excited to give these a try and see what kind of numbers we see.

Thanks again for sending them bro. I appreciate it so much!

Do you add reflective dots or just keep them plain?

This is going to be a good one be fun to see how it stacks up

I am just here to see your numbers with the Bridgestone Tour BX. I think it’s going to be the ball.

Still trying to get my hands on them. The good news is they should be at retail tomorrow. I can't believe I haven't been able to source them beforehand, I'm pretty good at being able to do that most of the time. It's the ball I'm looking forward to most though tbh. I had a lot of success with the 2024 version.

Very interested to see how these perform compared to others! Thanks for doing all of this

I will be buying some tomorrow as well for the weekend, schedule permitting.
