LIVE UPDATE THREAD The 2019 Graphite Challenge with UST Mamiya

We’re the Champ’s greens ok? Grain? Speed?

My first time on southern grass. Grain didn’t throw me too bad, greens were fast as... I’ve probably ever been on. And then some.

EDIT: A pool table is the analogy that comes to mind. Very firm even after the rain yesterday.

Glad you got to putt on those today. Traditionally, when I’ve played them in the past, they are at about 12. Only Seminole’s are noticeably faster... by a lot!

My mind is blown. I feel truly blessed with this opportunity to meet and play with such a genuine and sincere group of THPers, to learn from and interact with Danny and Tyler, be treated like tour pros with amazing custom UST Mayima shafts and Hogan irons, and to tear up one of the most badass courses in the world!

I believe it was mentioned that PGA National may be the only course in the world that has hosted a regular tour stop, a Major championship, AND a Ryder Cup.

Mind. Blown.

I cannot express my appreciation enough to @DannyLe, @BHGtylerb, @JB, and @GolferGal for their vision, passion, and generosity. And to my fellow Hackers, not just at the event but everyone following for the camaraderie. Thank you, for the best golf experience of my life.

The greens were rolling fast and were in great shape
I think in the renovation they were changed to tifeagle. I was a bit worried they wouldn’t cut them this morning after all the rain. One of my golf playing buddies was the asst. greens keeper there And he told me they had to maintain a balance of speed versus traffic and condition. When they got ready for a tournament, they cut them tighter and rolled them.

Just want to say to the THPers, thanks for having me playing. It happens rarely at these but I had so much fun with everybody.

Second, this group of guys was awesome. From our Friday night Ask Us Anything at dinner to the rain delay fun conversations, this was a blast.

Enjoy the heck out of those clubs. I saw some great golf shots with them and those shafts are awesome.

Thr course was good but the tech talk was better. Hope everybody has a better understanding about golf shafts in general and excited that the Graphite Challenge will return in 2020
Getting a round with you yesterday, even if it was in less than ideal conditions, was a great treat. It meant a lot to all of us who were able to it.

We’re they cut this morning? Could you tell?
Pretty sure they had been. The surface was firm enough for them to have been cut.

I was really impressed with the green drainage.

It is a special golf course. I was there for the ‘83 Ryder Cup and the ‘87 PGA. By the way, most of those houses and condo’s were not lining the holes back then.

I was so happy that you were able to join us on course this weekend. After everything you do for every single person on this forum, every single day, it was awesome to see you doing what you enjoy most.

We’re they cut this morning? Could you tell?

Yes. Absolutely cut this morning, at 630am we were headed to the range and the crew was just finishing the main practice green behind 18. And on course, fresh stripes.

I’m so glad you got to experience a THP Event. There is

we had a ton of fun out there with @Gaholfer

Thanks. I got to have some fun with you guys and genuinely play or not, these Experiences are about the gear and people.

Damn, awesome weekend!!!!!!!!
So, how are the shafts?

What a great read, spent time with the bestest half this morning and just sat to catch up. Definitely a great course to play and good times. Thank you for the pics and the updates....well done

Breaking news.... Just heard the Graphite Challenge is coming back next year!
Maybe it will be close enough to a casino that I can learn about shafts and PaiGow ...

What an amazing weekend. From start to finish, we were treated like VIPs at an incredible venue. @JB and @GolferGal went above and beyond to give a group of THPers a once in a lifetime experience. I could not be more appreciative or grateful to have been given the chance to be a participant in this event.

@DannyLe was so gracious with his time and knowledge. That man knows his stuff about golf shafts. He went above and beyond with giving us the custom recoil shafts and swag and making sure that we all had the best experience possible at the event. Danny is around golf experts and professionals, tour players, and other top golf people, but he took the time to spend a weekend with a group of weekend golfers and treat us like we were on that same level. Not only was I impressed with the product, I am beyond humbled by the experience.

@BHGtylerb is the kind of guy you just always want to be around. I know his driving is legendary around here, but his iron game is just as impressive. Guy is a stick. I came away from this event with a new appreciation for what Ben Hogan Golf is doing. The products are phenomenal on their own, and their pricing makes them an unbelievable value. I believed in the products coming into the event, but I think now I believe more in the people behind them. Thanks for everything this weekend Tyler.

The guys in this event were all top notch people. The conversations were easy going and everyone had such a great attitude. Some fantastic shots and memories were made. I plan on teeing it up with each one of them again in the future. And a special thanks to @GraniteRoost for putting up with me for 3 full days as a bunk mate. Great guy.

@JB thanks so much for getting after it today with us. I didn’t play my best golf, but I definitely had the best time on the best course I have ever played. Thanks for keeping it positive all day and for the support. There is no doubt you love this game and the interaction with the members on this forum. Thank you and thank you again for this experience. Getting to play a round with you os something that means a lot to me. I promise I will have my game in shape for the 2027 Morgan Cup ?.

I hope everyone follows along with us while we review these new irons and Recoil shafts in their respective threads. I think it would be worth your time. I had some absolute bombs with these when I was making good contact, and I think a bit of tome to get acquainted with them will dial me in. THP events have a way of sharpening your game. I went into this event the best version of myself as a golfer, but I still have a ways to go. And now I am inspired to continue to work and get my swing to a repeatable place and keep improving. I can’t wait to show everyone.

See you all in the Recoil and PTx Pro threads. Get ready to be impressed. And if you ever see me, you are more than welcome to try these irons for yourself right out of my bag, and you better be prepared to be impressed.

Haha, never worry about the play with me, and don’t let them fool you, we were first in fun.

honored to be part of your most fun round. It was an absolute blast.

I loved the number of videos in this thread - I full screened a ton of vids and saw some really good swings. Really good. Glad everyone had a blast today and I saw we had a lucky LINQ delivery too. Dang!

Damn, awesome weekend!!!!!!!!
So, how are the shafts?

Graphite is the way forward. Fact.

The design flexibility and properties offered by the myriad of composite materials makes for a better performing, better feeling shaft. Fact.

And, our custom THP @UST Mamiya are sexy AF.

Find some that fit your profile and jump in deep.

Say it again louder for the people in the back.

I came away from this weekend as a believer. The Recoil 110 protos are stable and create effortless launch.

It was amazing to see in person. We were all admiring the LINQ in JB’s bag, and @mmaynard11 was hammering the ball. Where else can you get a shaft, for free, that isn’t released for another 2-3 months, just tossed to you to keep? Only THP.

I have never played ben hogan irons or graphite shafts I struck them pretty well today and the irons and shafts felt great. Coming up most will be indoor practicing since mn weather is not good and look forward to hitting them some more. Trying to get a few more videos posted but having trouble
