Woooooo!!!! What a time to be a THP'er, as we have Experiences coming down the track and we go back to back at The Vic. This experience is sponsored by one of the favorites of the THP community, Shot Scope. Shot Scope’s core mission is to help us improve our game with data. They believe that golfers can benefit from analyzing data from their rounds with shot tracking and making a plan to focus on improvement based on what the data shows. Shot Tracking combined with just knowing accurate distances with their GPS and Rangefinder offering is powerful if you are attempting to score better. In my experience, they are absolutely right about the power of data.

Getting to interact with the people from Shot Scope is what makes this Data Experience so special. While the lucky participants will get full data breakdowns from the professionals about their game, we can also learn a lot at home as we follow along with this experience. I would highly recommend downloading the free e-book “How to Improve Your Game with Data” from their website (https://shotscope.com/us/shop/products/ebooks/how-to-improve-your-game-with-data/). I have nothing but positive things to say about their products, as I’m a X5 & Pro ZR user.

Now that I’ve set the table, let’s talk about winning some coins betting on this one…

When & Where
May 4th-6th, 2025
Newburgh, IN
Victoria National Golf Club

Out of all of the Dormie Network courses that we have grown accustomed to seeing at THP experiences, this Tom Fazio design feels like it provides the most carnage for participants. Victoria National is a course carved from abandoned coal mines and has over 500 million gallons of water on the course. It has bent grass greens and fairways, just a brutal test of golf awaits the participants.

If you want to take a look at what the participants will be dealing with, take a look here:

https://www.dormienetwork.com/victoria-national

*There are also, hole by hole breakdowns by Templeton on the forum

The Format:
Monday- 18 Holes: Shamble Format (Best Ball- 70% Handicap)

Monday- 9 Holes: Alt Shot (50% Handicap)

Tuesday- 18 Holes: Singles (100% Handicap)

This format for the Data Experience is an absolute winner, as it has a little something for everyone. I really like the inclusion of the Alternate Shot stanza. With 8 points total available, 4’ wins the Data Experience. With the number of points equally distributed between Days 1 & 2, we are set up for an exciting finish in the singles matches.

Note: Team Gavin won last year’s Data Experience

The Teams
Team Gavin (Combined Handicap: 4.8)

@Gavin - Shot Scope (+3)
@jdtox (4.5)
@lambeau (6.6)
@tinkergolfman (11.2)

Team Jen (Combined Handicap: 3.6)

@jenisontheforum (+3)
@JB (8.4)
@Scooby45 (10.3)
@MtlJeff (+1.4)

I don’t know where to start, but from a combined handicap standpoint, this is the lowest number for both teams that I have seen since doing this in 2018. Both teams are stacked, and that should lead to super tight matches and an experience that isn’t decided until the final match.

Both teams include an experience rookie (tinkergolfman & MtJeff), this one is so close that it might be decided by which one of the rookies handles the heat the best. Outside of the rookies, we know that the rest of the field are absolute gamers, led by Gavin (minus his trusty R1) & Jen. Besides the namesake, Team Gavin sports perhaps the greatest experience competitor in THP history in jdtox (that was the most difficult sentence that I have ever written, I threw up a little in my mouth). They also have a steady hand with Lambeau to help their rookie tinkergolfman navigate his first experience.

Team Jen is also stacked, we all know that Jen can play lights out, as we have seen her play before. Joining her on the lowest combined handicapped team in the history of THP Experiences is The People’s Elbow (JB) & my Preview Show Booth partner in crime (Scooby45). Combined with all this experience, they draw a rookie with a plus handicap. I mean, what is happening here?

Opening Odds:

I don’t see how Team Jen doesn’t go off as a slight favorite in this spot. We have seen the JB/Scooby pairing win in shamble before (they go out together here also). There won’t be a whole lot of pops in this format, so slight edge to the team with the two plus caps. With that being said, any team that has both Gavin & jdtox is a live dog, as we know that they both just finds ways to win matches.

With a stoke spread in combined handicap that isn’t that drastic, the pairing were done in a very stock manner. It has the makings of a razor close competition, that could hang in the balance of a couple of matches on Singles Day. This could come down to the Jen v. jdtox rematch on Singles Day.

I have seen both JB & jdtox play at the staff retreat, and they are both are in good form, this number is slight and is based on the fact that I think that Team Jen’s rookie (MtJeff) handles the Vic better than tinkergolfman.

It has been a struggle at the window, as more tickets have turned into confetti than getting cashed in. The High/High pairing at the last experience putting in a generational performance cost me 25% of my total bankroll alone. Just brutal..

When I was betting Baseball heavily in the late 90's, I would go through stretches like this, and I always found a path to get back and get even. That path was to load the wagon with high percentage of my remaining bankroll on bets by laying heavy caulk on ML bets riding the following pitchers: Randy Johnson, Roger Clemens, Pedro Martinez, Greg Maddox, Curt Schilling & sometimes sprinkle in John Smoltz & Tom Glavine. The point is you dance with the date that brought you, and pick players players that you trust and ride them until the end.

Fortunately for us, this one feels like one of those weeks in the late 90's that The Big Unit, Clemens, Pedro, and Maddox are all throwing at least once and The Big Unit is throwing twice. Let's make some coins back!!!!

Blood Bank Guarantee:
Match 8- 18 Hole Singles Matchplay
@MtlJeff (+1.4) +145
@Gavin - Shot Scope (+3) -170

If the THP sportsbook was Frank (My College Bookie), I would have had to give plasma twice in the last several weeks. We get an exquisite ball striker like Gavin, and we don't have to lay but 2 strokes in a singles match? Where do I sign up? Do not walk, but run to the window to bet this one.

The Pick: @Gavin - Shot Scope (+3) -170

Blank Check:

Match 5- 18 Hole Singles Matchplay
JB (8.4) -170
@tinkergolfman (11.2) +145

Tinker has been MIA, we don't know a lot about him. In fact we might need a search warrant and a host of members of the United States Marshals Service to find him. With my back against the wall, I'm going with someone that normally doesn't let us down. Don't over think it, play this one like it has already been played.

The Pick: JB (8.4) -170

Stone Cold Lead Pipe Lock:

Match 1- 18 Hole Shamble Matchplay
JB (8.4) and @Scooby45 (10.3) -150
@lambeau (6.6) and @tinkergolfman (11.2) +130

Remember this Experience is all about going with sides that we trust, and we have seen them win before as a pairing. This bet is as comfortable as a Johnny-O hoodie, just lay the vig, and hope that The People's Elbow can get to power save mode early.

The Pick: JB (8.4) and @Scooby45 (10.3) -150

Max Bet/ Full Send:

Match 2- 18 Hole Shamble Matchplay
@jenisontheforum (+3) and @MtlJeff (+1.4) -110
@Gavin - Shot Scope (+3) and @jdtox (4.5) -110

Sometime the most important lesson of bankroll management isn't about picking winners and losers, it's about knowing which games or matches you should lay off.
Just because Hawaii v. Wyoming are the only game going at 11:59 PM CDT doesn't mean you should bet it, weird things happen on the Island, you should stay away and go to bed. And this is what this match looks like, a great lay off spot. However, scared money doesn't make money, we are betting this one.

This is going to be a fist fight in a phone booth, but give me the team that has arguably the greatest pure competitor in the history of THP Experiences, the one that has a 21-10-6 career record, and he gets paired with Gavin. Expect an different energy from me come September, but my bankroll needs to get to September, so we ride with @jdtox here.

The Pick: @Gavin - Shot Scope (+3) and @jdtox (4.5) -110

Good luck and let's get rich!!!!

Man, the matchups are so good in this Experience that it should be televised! I'm expecting some major fireworks at Victoria National.

Great stuff @JDax
This one is going to be a ton of fun.

One of the coolest experiences THP does for a data nerd like myself. As always well done @JDax

Thanks @JDax, although a little disappointed you didn’t make a call in the Jen/Jdtox match that everyone is looking forward to.

It’ll be on his “Best Bets” card…

Great intro and warm up. This is a must follow and I can't wait.

I’ll get Thursday and Friday but that might be it for me in the last lead up

Oh this is fun! Thanks @JDax the book will be open for business this week..

I feel like my game is in OK shape. I was able to hit some decent bunker shots (practicing after holes) in the one round i played so far. I normally really struggle with this early in the year. Chipping also felt pretty comfortable for this early.

My irons were a bit hooky a couple of times, but it's hard to say....the round i played was 40-50km gusts so they also got held up a bit and exacerbated

I really drove it well. So this is good for Vic i think. I'm really comfortable with the Max K

I am going to try and play at least 18 during the week. Then hopefully Saturday morning before my flight and then again Sunday morning before Vic. That would be 4 rounds before this if i can get them in.

This is just info for you bettors out there LOL

And all the others before that too.

Loving the write up, Jen and I are currently flying over, will be finding a range this week to get some practice in.

I am struggling to think Match 2 has pops in it, don't like getting shots.

Me neither and i'll probably get 1 from you on the Tuesday!

Man this is going to be an absolute slugfest! A lot of firepower coming to this event, trying to take down each other and Victoria National.

No matter who I bet on… The Vic always wins.
