So this is a really condensed version of it of course and possibly missing a thing or two or confusing what year. How did Al's house become a thing?
Pretty much spot on hereSorry I couldn’t make it on last night but I’m sure they* set you guys straight!
*Captain jlew and to varying lesser degrees the other 3
That's really cool. I guess my preconceived notion was that a lot of the members aren't exactly thrilled average joes take over their very private course for a few days.So this is a really condensed version of it of course and possibly missing a thing or two or confusing what year.
The The Hideaway requires members to be with all groups during the rounds. So from the very beginning a relationship with multiple members was needed. Al was one of those members early and absolutely loved what the event was. I can't remember what year it was, but he suggested that one of the dinners be at his house during the event so everyone could get to know each other even better. It has become a staple of the event and he (and all the hosts at this point since they are mostly the same year over year) are just as excited about this event as we are.
If others (non hosting members) don’t like us there, they hide it EXTREMELY well since we see them all over the place. Helps that they have two courses to play on. So while we are on on one, one day, the other is open. That's really cool. Oh god I hate notebooks..
Can't read what I wrote? Sorry 'bout it.He proudly shows off those graphite/ink smudges on the fingers!

Yep. This 100%. They wanted to share their experience with us. Fully felt welcome the entire time.I've been fortunate to play at some swanky private clubs, and for the most part I've been treated fairly well but you kind of know you don't "belong" there.
That couldn't be further from the truth at The Hideaway- to Muchy's point, if they despise us being there they are fantastic at hiding it. The folks I've interacted with while there, not apart of our experience couldn't have been more welcoming and pleasant.
This! You definitely don't get treated like a guest! When we were playing with Renee, she would run and grab us things all the time, encourage us, ask if we needed anything and she even was working on her laptop at times. That couldn't be further from the truth at The Hideaway- to Muchy's point, if they despise us being there they are fantastic at hiding it. This just really blows my mind. So excited to meet Al and the other Hideaway members! So this is a really condensed version of it of course and possibly missing a thing or two or confusing what year.

It’s also only two days for them and it’s been going on for 12 years now. If they didn’t like it enough, we could have been forced to play somewhere else a long time ago

This is awesome to hear! I've only ever played at 1 private club and made to feel like I was an intruder the whole time, so I don't have a great experience to pull from. This! It is truly incredible that with how excited I already am for this event, I see something in this thread every day that takes it to another level that I didn't know was possible. With everything going on at home this week, this event and this group of people I get to experience this with has been such a blessing to have. All the Hideaway members who played with us were awesome, they were very welcoming, kind, and a lot of fun.
Maybe the most mind-blowing thing was when we got to Al's house and met them all. They had gotten together and had a watch party where they watched all our intro videos, and knew about each and every one of us. The fact that these people not only welcomed us into a member's house for an amazing evening and dinner, but actually took the time out of their lives to learn about us beforehand, was just so cool. Many of them have been a part of The Grandaddy for years, they know all about it and enjoy being a part of it. It shatters every stereotype you might have ever had about private clubs.
Those snipped photos don’t do it justice ever, I agree with the Captain.Grandaddy fellas…it’s apparent you will see snipped photos posted online for new equipment try your hardest to not click on the bait! Trust me!
I was just saying to my wife that it just kind of hit me that we are 19 days from jumping on airplanes. In about 3 weeks crazy to think we will be wrapping up Day 1 matches. The chatter recapping the day and the excitement over singles matches will be electric.

Just nuts. I cannot wait. Only 10 more days of work.I was just saying to my wife that it just kind of hit me that we are 19 days from jumping on airplanes.
They really do treat you like you've been there all along. There is no looking sideways, down the nose, any of that. It's like your walking, riding in the cart around your own club. Blew me away really! Even the people on their range would smile as we all drive by to go hit balls. They knew we were in for a treat.I've been fortunate to play at some swanky private clubs, and for the most part I've been treated fairly well but you kind of know you don't "belong" there.
