The 60 and over Thread

Not quite as exciting as a new club, but I bought a new golf bag today. Going to give one of my old bags to my son.

Sun Mountain 2.5+ for $99. It's super lightweight and made for carrying but I'll use it with a push cart. Hope it holds up for a few years.

Looks good Jon. Does it have individual dividers? Just curious!

I had a nice Sun Mountain one but it didn't like standing upright on its own which I thought was weird so I couldn't have it just stand up in the basement corner when not is use so I eventually got rid of it.

It only has 4 dividers. My previous bag had 14 so it’ll be an adjustment. I might end up using this new one for my Radials and getting another bag for my regular set. I don’t understand all the hate towards 14 divider bags. I kind of like them.

I don't mind them at all but they do weigh quite a bit, especially the cart bags. I have two bags, one is a big cart bag with the dividers and the second one is a lightweight stand bag with a four way top also that I mainly use for a partial set bag since it isn't very big diameter wise so I don't think more than 10-11 clubs would fit without wrestling them out when I needed a club. lol

Oh I did get out for 18 yesterday! It took about 4 1/4 hours to complete and it was warm but not unbearable! :) Played about 6000 yards with a par 3 at 209 yards (measured 206 yesterday). Just strange for the white tees!

Thanks BH. I owned a used Sun Mountain bag years ago and really liked it. This one was advertised at $250+ marked down to $99 so I thought it might the best deal in the store. I’m too cheap to buy a pricey bag - though I probably should eventually invest in one.
It’s a fantastic golf bag. I have the 2.5 14 way, and it is probably the best bag I’ve ever owned. Why they stopped making it in that 14 way version, I’ll never understand. 🤷‍♂️

I havent seen a video of my swing in ages. One of the guys took a couple un beknownst to me till they were talking about the videos on the way home. What an eye opener. I was never aware that these days bring it up high then drop it in the slot, almost a Furyk type of move. Left arm is slightly bent on the takeaway and straightens right out as a I drop it into the slot to start the down swing. Didnt know i was lifting the left heel like 1.5-2". And i knew I had a sttong, late release, but I am facing the ball and the club head is still well above my waist and behind my hip line. Weird ass looking swing but i was driving very well so I am going to forget what I saw. Lol

The amount of shaft bend was an eye opener too. But i never saw anything because its working.

Been wanting a 5 and 6 hybrid lately to tinker with. Local club guy on Market Place has Cobra Bafflers, 3-6, older model before the DWS came out. $100 for all four in regular flex and great shape. Figure it’s worth a shot. I’d rather only have the 5/6 if he will split them. Yay or nay?

I have the DWS ones in 3 and 4 (20 and 23 degree) right now and like them. Now I don't hit hybrids great but I am getting better with them. I normally prefer FW's but these are pretty easy to hit and to me feel better than alot of newer models. Most of the time I just carry the 4H but did use the 3H this past Saturday.

That's a very good price for four of them, I would give them a try. After all, you don't have much into them if they don't work for you and can resell them pretty easy I would think.

Jealous of the radials. Easiest to hit one piece forging ever.
Ill never get away from 14 way bags. I have 14 ways for regulation courses. A pencil bag for the pitch and putt, which is all the bag carrying Ill do any more with my back. 14 way lets me grab what I want without looking. Lets me see at a glance that everyone is accounted for.

Go for it. At that price, even @SC Putter would, might, possibly buy those (after days of careful consideration of course) 😂
In all seriousness, the older Cobra hybrids were terrific clubs. The OEMs would probably claim the new are better, go further, but I’ve never believed there is a lot of tech in hybrids.

Going to hybrids instead of irons or 7 & 9 woods has been a real game changer for me. It took a mental adjustment ( read accepting that I am a fat old fart) to accept that a 6H was the better option for me, especially on bad back days when the speed is down.

I truly understand the “accepting I’m getting old” part myself!

I would go for it, good price and you can trade or sell the clubs that don't work for you.

Played 9 this morning, had to wait out the rain. The ground was soaking up the rain, so didn't have CPO and I was happy.. It wasn't a good day for hitting the ball, I was losing 20 or 25 yards on every club, the only bright spot was I kept the ball in play and in front of me. Played better on 9 and got a par, good way to end the round. Wasn't hot , just very humid, I could wring my shirt out after playing. By the way putting was good.

I have the 3 DWS which is a club that is never coming out of my bag unlike the other clubs which is always in danger of being replaced. :ROFLMAO:

I pulled an @SC Putter 🤣🤭 and got the 5 and 6 for $50. Gonna ride in the cart tomorrow with our son during the afternoon Wolf game…. I’ll get them tomorrow! Being in the dog gone recliner since Friday other than bathroom breaks is kills me Smalls!

I’m at the Mayo Clinic for their executive physical that I do every other year. 8 appointments today and another 4 tomorrow. It’s a pain and I miss two rounds of golf but my wife makes me do it. :)

You and GS are cold as ice! :p

Shot my age this morning.....nothing great....I'm 79.....but chipped and putted well at Sandy Creek in Monroe, Michigan. 7 GIR, 30 putts, got up and down six times. First
time I rode all season, but it was hotter than blazes, and wife "insisted." It did help make it bearable......

I now have 14 and really, really like it. Got tired of clubs getting tangled up.

Seriously? Medicare doesn't cover physicals so I get a "Wellness visit" instead. The doctor asks if you have any concerns, asks a few questions, and that's it. Doesn't even check your heart beat, lol.

My wife’s physicals at the Mayo clinic are 100% all paid for by her company. Mine is about 60% covered by our health insurance through her work but the out of pocket goes towards our family deductible that we reach each year anyway. They do a lot of testing during the executive physical that hopefully will catch something early when I inevitably get some health issue. It’s been 29 months since I‘ve been and I’ll wait another 2.5 years before I go again but it’s only 75 miles from our house so not that big of a hassle.

Some of it is pretty interesting. I did a cardio stress test today where they monitored my blood pressure and heart rate while they ramp up the speed and incline on a treadmill. They actually use 220 grit sandpaper on you skin for the 10 electrodes they put on you chest, lol. I lasted 14 minutes before tapping out when my heart rate reached 170.

If I wasn’t married I‘m pretty sure I would not have done a physical in the last 5 years. I‘m a great procrastinator. :)

Yeah, you would think as you get older that kind of thing would be a little important, lol. My "physical" is like a photo of a great plate of food, and yours is the actual food. The only thing "physical" related thing is they run some blood tests and take my BP.

It’s pretty common, at least here in Minnesota - a lot of the companies based here cover it for employees at a certain level of management. We have friends that have caught cancer and other issues such as blockage or a heart valve issue early because of the extensive physical. I signed up for an optional free study today when I was already getting my ECG(Electrocardiogram). The study took about 15 minutes and included an ultrasound of my heart chambers/valves that goes into my permanent record. More interesting than the typical physical.
