The Mental Game of Golf in a Nutshell

The only thing that should be on your mind the moment before you take the club away is a feeling of enjoyment over what you are about to do.
Agreed, but I haven't mastered it yet.

Definitely!

Well said.

I tend to visualize my target. But this is a good thought too. I like this thought more when I’m walking to my next ball.

Agree…

” Mary condo your mind “ …. And just swing.

😎

I do that but the feeling is quickly replaced with "DOH!!"

The ball is not the target. It needs to be rifled at the target.

And two seconds after you swing the club....

That is a pretty good thought.

I've always found putting to be similar mentally to playing goalie. There's only two options on any putt or shot on goal.

In or out. Which outcome I prefer depends on whether I'm on ice or grass.

To be a good putter you need to have not only the skill and repeatable stoke, but the ability to lie to yourself and truly believe you're going to make that 20 footer.

Note “should” is the operative word here. The thought that is there can range from: “Why do I hate myself so?” to “A taco sounds nice right now.”

If only it were that easy. Solid goal though!!
