The Official 2024 - 2025 NHL and Everything Hockey Thread

Lots of empty seats.
There were. And a lot of Canadians made the trip down from Ottawa and other parts of Canada or there would have been a lot more empty seats. Its a shame what has happened with this franchise although the game tonight was entertaining.

Good game for Toronto! Solid 7-2 win over Philadelphia tonight.

🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

One of the 3 best teams in hockey on the second night of a high altitude road trip back to back. What did you expect?

Philadelphia fires Tortorella.

I just realized that CHI and SJ are both in the toilet again.

There should be a cooldown on 1st overalls. Ineligible for five years after getting the pick.

Why? Asking genuinely.

You can't win it more than twice in a 5 year period. I think that would do enough to prevent long term tanking.

because I want to see that type of player get scattered around the league, not handed on a silver platter to the worst team on the regular. Edmonton is as guilty as anyone and those dudes may have had a different outcome if they weren't all filtered there.

Also, it's so teams who are perennially not great, but not the worst, have a chance at getting an insane talent as well. Columbus hasn't successfully tanked since Rick Nash and I'd love to see them not have to be the worst team in the NHL to get one.

Perhaps. I would argue the flip side of that is you would see bad teams continue to be bad over and over with little chance at success. It does leave teams in the middle stuck, but that was FL for a while, so they traded assets (draft picks) for players to jump ahead. That is always an option as well.

Yeah, I just hate the suck to be good structure. It's one of the least favorite things about the NHL for me.

Tank tank.

I agree. This forces GM’s and Presidents to actually make hockey trades and actually manage their teams and assets.

The good news is those teams can keep tanking just like Buffalo and not get better and then their players leave

Unfortunately Buffalo is not tanking this season the organization and team is just bad and a first overall or two wont change the result. The one absolute no doubt intentional tank was the year when they lost the lottery with the worst record in hockey and Edmonton got Connor McDavid . I think things might have turned out different with McDavid but maybe not.
