This is such a hard question because I committed to both of them for the season with a two driver set up instead of trying to grab a mini. The Quantum was longer, the OPTM was more accurate.@Muchmore not 100% sure where to put this since I don't want to clutter either thread, but you're testing both the Quantum and Optm. When the testing is over, if I had to ask you right now which head you're going to game for the season what's your answer? Yes I realize this is very specific to you, and your game- but just curious in a head to head which one would be in the bag for the rest of the season. (Or until the next test comes around)
Are you playing?First course in the area opens tomorrow supposedly.
It will be packed. Man it feels like such a late start to the season.
So pre swing change:This is such a hard question because I committed to both of them for the season with a two driver set up instead of trying to grab a mini. The Quantum was longer, the OPTM was more accurate.
But I have changed my driver swing since the testing finished up, and it has tightened the dispersion with the Quantum and increased the distance with the OPTM. So while I still plan on a two driver set up since I have the space in the bag, it's actually going to be way more competitive than I thought it was when testing was over.
I was asked the same thing about my TiFs and 3DPs in the iron thread and I picked the 3DPs. For this, right now I'd probably go with Quantum.
Nah. It'll be a couple weeks until I get out on the course here. The course that opens will be booked solid with the diehards and the seniors for a while. Are you playing?
Yes, that was exactly it pre swing changeSo pre swing change:
- Quantum = distance
- OPTM = dispersion
Post swing change things are much closer- is there now a thought of dropping one to add the mini since I'm guessing the distance gap has shrank, and both could lead you to trouble from a distance perspective, or are you sticking to your guns with what you "committed" to?
It's been in the 70s for the last three days here and now we are supposed to get three days of snow and sub 40 weather.Nah. It'll be a couple weeks until I get out on the course here. The course that opens will be booked solid with the diehards and the seniors for a while.
I've still got snow/ice in my yard. Its snowed twice here in the past week, but we haven't gotten rain yet.
I think we have had two days over 10*C (so like 50F). We haven't gotten enough heat yet to make anything playable.
That helps and yes it makes sense. We use mini for two different reasons: you for accuracy, me for distance control. I wasn't thinking of it through the accuracy lens myself.Yes, that was exactly it pre swing change
So even with the Quantum tightening up dispersion, the two driver thought was the OPTM could be trusted on the tighter holes where distance is welcome, but accuracy is paramount. We have a few of those on our home course and even with the tightening dispersion on the Quantum, if you told me I HAD to hit a fairway, I would pull the OPTM on those shots right now. The mini that I used last year was strictly for accuracy because I didn't have that trust with driver. So I gave up distance when I didn't need to, to make sure I was accurate.
Now that I can seemingly keep that distance but come as close as I can to guaranteeing accuracy, I don't feel like I need to have a mini and the two driver set up is still viable. There are three holes that I take driver out of my hand from a course management standpoint that a mini still wouldn't make sense, especially with how my 5w has evolved with the PowerCore Blue ever since it's been plugged in.
The Elyte Ti has increased distance for me while being automatic for accuracy so my need for a mini is negated as wellThat helps and yes it makes sense. We use mini for two different reasons: you for accuracy, me for distance control. I wasn't thinking of it through the accuracy lens myself.
Happy things have worked for you!!
Grab a fork and start from the fresh sideFound this in the fridge in my department. I'm half tempted to quit. I've obviously failed as a leader if one of my employees has stooped to this level of depravity.

Blame my driver for going that far off the fairway.
I wanted to go grab it. My wife wouldn’t let me..
