South in my community (restaurant) is having a BBQ/Wing fest thing in the parking lot today to benefit a charity.

I have 3 hours and 40 minutes to play with what was a pretty open tee sheet for about an hour ahead of me.

Rush is Amazing though…
I have nothing to do right now and it's weirding me out because I'm usually flat out on a Saturday.
Nobody could ever replace Neil, but Anika is doing a really good job with them, she's fun to watch. Watch her lose a drumstick during the fill down the rack in Tom Sawyer, and recover like a true pro, with a big smile no less (around the 30 second mark):

Seamless though. The smile…And those are huge shoes to fill
She just looks like she's having so much fun up there. Geddy said it's infectious and he has a hard time not facing her the whole time they're playing because they have so much fun together.
Funny thing is, she didn't get her wings doing Rush covers on YouTube, and doesn't even list Neil as one of her influences (she cites Jeff Porcaro as her #1). She had her own jazz fusion band, and she was drumming on tour for Jeff Beck before her manager got a call asking if she'd be interested in drumming for Rush. She had to start learning their library from scratch because she didn't even know their songs.
I had no idea! It’s Really smart of them not to get a “fan” though when you think of it. It’d be hard to break them of album rote memorization behavior.
I can see where the jazz fusion would come in handy with all of the fills (especially the later stuff after Neil switched his drumming style)
This hit me in the nostalgia feels. Zoom chats from a by gone era.

I was fortunate enough to see them a couple of months back in Toronto. While I never got to see the original trio, there was no audible difference with Anika. What really impressed me about the concert was just how much fun Alex and Geddy appeared to be having. They looked like kids on a playground.
There's no question Anika had an impossible set of shoes to fill; some would argue that it wasn't even something that should be attempted. And I don't think she went in thinking that she needed to try. I've watched quite a few YouTube videos of her during shows; her antics during the ending of Working Man make for some good humour.
Drummers are a completely different breed; I don't know how they can independently control four different limbs. Cut from a different cloth I guess. But it's incredible to watch and listen to.
