Thoughts?

In last night's sim league, my team was paired with another team that had a guy who got to play from the white tees. The reasoning from him was, 'in the first practice round, I couldn't even hit my drives 200 yards.'

He is now hitting around 250ish, he hit a 3w 240, and sunk two 30+ putts.

There is a rolling handicap in our league as well. Should his performance move him back to everyone else's tees? I pretty sure we are around the same age as well.

I'd assume, but maybe I shouldn't that being a "league" there would be rules for this. I can honestly say I have no idea why anyone would try to sandbag in a sim league. Thats kind of ridiculous. Is there a lot of money on the line?

Nope, we are just playing for fun but I think the winners get free sim time or get to join the next league for free. Multiple teams have complained about this, but since teams do have to pay to participate, some amount of fairness would be appropriate IMO.

I just think some people are just that focused on a need to game the system and to win at whatever it is that they are doing. You are so right that it’s ridiculous to do this is in a sim league, especially without money on the line.

My partner and I shot 58 last week in our sim scramble and got called sandbaggers even being in the A flight.

Sometimes **** happens haha

It's golf you'll find them everywhere

Did anyone call him out?

Yep...apparently two weeks ago there was almost a fist fight between him and some other team hahahah

Classic sim league shenanigans

to be fair...I have had his experience on the sims One week my drives will average 250 carry with rollout. Next week I am hitting 200 yard popups. My most recent rouns my driver average was 226.38 yards. Round prior it was 267. Happens. Those rounds were two days apart.

He very well may be, but not sure one round would convince me.

Sounds like your league needs some organization and some rules.

I love winning just as much as the next guy, but I never understood cheating to get there. It takes away any sense of accomplishment...even if you don't get caught, you always know how you got there.

I stopped playing softball years ago because all the cheating/sandbagging killed the fun.

As far as golf, I don't know what's worse - the guys cheating/sandbagging to win a winter sim league, or the guys doing it to win a charity scramble.

Thats why on the Simulator golf tour rounds that are for money, need to be recorded (video) and the ball placement must be visible in the video. Helps avoid some funny business.

That’s so over serious it’s hilarious

Some figured out that you don't need to hit to the correct green. Lets say the hole is 415 yards, but there is another green (different hole) 70 yards away. These cheaters figured you could hit to and sink at the 70 yard hole and it would count . The fact that sim golf tour keeps the data of every shot, was how they got found out, as the yardages hit didn't add up. Creative #$^$ers. lol

I mean I would have been skeptical when he mentioned only hitting his drives 200yds. That had to be a first…😂

Doesn't seem fair for a different set of tees. Did the rolling handicap allow him to move up, or just his "lac of distance"?

Lack of distance off the tee in his first practice round put him in the shorter tees. rolling handicap is happening but they have not made him go to the same tees as the rest of us.

Doesn't seem to fair of a system, I hope the buy in wasn't too much.

Not too bad, that's also why I REALLY don't care that much but still worth complaining about it on the forum hahaha

I don't know the structure of the sim league, but sounds like a complaint for the organizers as well

The first time I played in a league the first couple of rounds were when the handicap was established. I had never played on a sim before. I was terrible and I had a high handicap. I figured it about the 4th week and we finished second. There was some complaining I sand bagged since most of my scores the rest of the season were below 40. I wasn’t. I just figured it out and my scores ended being close to my outdoor scores. The 10 ft. gimmies helped me a get a few strokes lower. Not my fault they didn’t readjust the handicaps after the first 2 rounds.

The league @snafu and I played last year adjusted the caps each week.
There were a few guys who claimed to be a 20+ One who I was giving strokes too only to watch them smash drive after drive 275+, he went from 14 to a 7 the next week.

There was just a article in Golf Digest recently about this very subject. cheaters-high-stakes-sim-tourneys

You forgot to mention they went 4 under for 9 holes i was a 3 and gave 10+ strokes it had to compete when every hole you need to get a birdy or ace because they are par birdy every hole

That sounds like fun 👎
