I had to quit the round. I was paired up as a duo. we were behind a threesome. two of which were really novice golfers. The course flipped the nines today, so I play the back nice first. By the turn it was painfully slow. The guy I was pair with quit after 3. I played 4, solo. but I hit two approaches and putted out for bogey. Yet the group in front hadn't even teed off on the par 3 5th. I watched them come out the trees and hit 5 shots to get to the green. So I decided to jump them.
Only to discover an equally bad twosome in front of them. The group I jumped caught me before I even tee off. And were not too happy. But I explained that I now understood they they were not to blame for the slow play. As slow as they were......they we're "keeping up". I felt bad about now jumping them. I was already thinking I should call it a day...so I decided to quit. I wished them well and started the drive back the club house. Approaching 7th tee box there are two groups waiting and two more on the fairway and green. As I drive by, I see a rogue cart pulled off by the houses. the Driver clearly off visiting his house.
As I approach the 8th tee box. there is a twosome just sitting there and greated my fondly, thinking I was their wandering buddy. There is no one on all of 8. Nor any golfer on 9. I found the source of the train wreck. So I did my good deed and walked in the club house to inform them they they were about to have a string of really mad golfers. They thanked me and sent the kid ranger to go fix it.
Shame I had to quit on a round when the weather was so rare and perfect for June in AZ, but I just couldn't take all the waiting as a single any more.
