THP Nor-Cal Crew @ Diablo Grande 11-2-14 (photos & re-cap thread)

The Nor-Cal Crew had another great outing today. This time we hit Diablo Grande in Patterson, CA. One of their courses (Legends) has been closed since earlier in the year due to the drought, but the Ranch course has remained open and is in fantastic condition. After a good day and a half of rain, the air was clean, the skies were blue and the wind was RIPPING. But it was great out there. We had 8 of the Nor-Cal Crew out there today. A few of our regulars weren't able to make this one, but we had a blast, as usual.

I'll get some photos up from my phone in a few minutes, but I just have to give it up for my boys. We've gotten together enough times now, that everybody is really starting to get to know each other. It's always been fun, but the more rounds you play, the better the banter and camaraderie get. This group just clicks and I enjoy every one of our outings. Along with myself, we had, Brianbigoats, mancest, Aoxomxoa, TheHeez, DufferToo, chicogolf and ehowdy out there today. We got beat up a little bit, but it was worth it.

I'm sure they will. We've had 12 the past couple of times. This one was a conflict for a few of our regulars. We're planning to hit the Monterey Peninsula in late January, which should be well attended.

This was a cool par-4 on the front. O.B. right and water left made for an interesting tee shot. chicogolf trying to get out of the sticky rough and up to the green.

We can only assume that this trap was for feral pigs, since it was placed right next to an area they were rooting in. The bait? BACON!

Great minds think alike. ehowdy and I ran into TheHeez (pictured) 30 minutes down the road on our way home and enjoyed some well-deserved In-N-Out together.

My problem is Bakersfield is 2+ hours S. of "NorCal" events and 2+ hrs. N. for most "SoCal" events. I'd rather go N. than down in LA anytime though LOL.

Awesome time today Eddie, thanks so much for all the work, Can't wait for the next one. So great to see everyone again, was just fantastic.

I really liked that course, they have regular hot time deals… just might have to make that drive again.

After doing my best Coers impression to start my day, I was just glad that the CHP were apparently otherwise occupied and not patrolling I-5.

Diablo Grande is a really fun course. The weather, the course, and the company couldn't have been better. As Eddie mentioned, there was a slight "breeze" that somehow was always blowing into our faces??? Having played links style courses before I knew that hitting the top 1/3 of the ball takes the wind completely out of play and I used that tactic on several occasions.

What a day it was! Things started off early as I had a three hour drive to get to the course, once I arrived I could see what the hype was about. The course looked fantastic and the facilities were top notch! Conditions were sunny, crisp and friggen windy!

I had the pleasure of playing with Brianbigoats, mancest and Aoxomxoa. As a whole we did not play very well, although each of us had some moments of glory. Allen (Aoxomxoa) tried to get us to respectable with an early birdie on the tricky par three 4th hole, I had a look at eagle on the 5th hole (settled for a tap in bird), Brian (Brianbigoats) had an awesome hybrid into the 10th green that was right into the teeth of the wind and was all carry over the lake and Roger (mancest) made some fantastic iron shots (I even turned the cart around and drove back 100 yards to give him a fist bump for one).

Some of the funnier moments included what will become one of the ugliest Hole of the Day videos created, Brian giving me a needed warning and the story behind that sad face golf ball chicogolf posted (dude, I said I was sorry). All in all it was a blast!

I have to say, I witnessed a couple of "firsts" during this round.

1. Driving up to an elevated tee box to find a ball already teed up while the group ahead was already out in the fairway. This ended up being the infamous "sad face" ball mentioned in other comments.

2. I witnessed an intentional layup on a par-3 for the first time in my life.

In other words, we had a blast. Laughing and giving each other a hard time all day. That's what it's all about and that's why I enjoy our group so much. I'm down to drive a couple hours to tee it up with this gang any time.
