Decided to have some fun. My current gamers are miura black boron baby blades. I only play 5 to 9 (vokey 46° and tmb 4i) so I thought I'd experiment with the pw and 4i.

The pw was pretty well work from hitting balls, 4i was brand new. Stripped paint fill with citristrip, coke bath for 2 hrs, and quick scrub with green sctchbrite scour pad and it's down to raw. Torched pw for 25 min with my little butane torch, got it up to about 300° but no color change. Im going to need a much bigger torch haha.

Looking forwarding to seeing your results when you hit them with that bigger torch.

Torch and quench in oil, Kang. You’ll see some results. I’ve also seen people put them on a grill and crank it up to 600+ degrees then do that. That looked pretty cool.

So first run at the torch turned a bit greenish purple

Second run a bit better. Starting to see some blues

3rd run almost there. Seems to get the blues to come out I need to use as much heat as possible and don't be scared of burning the building down haha

Do you have to remove the heads to do this?

Yes need to remove heads. The heat would destroy the epoxy and ferrule anyway. It's sittingnon an old shaft in a vise for the torch job

Still cooling but I think this one might be done. Will need to see what colors it has once cooled all the way

Kang was saying he was pushing 600+ degrees to get that colour formed. Methinks any piece of epoxy or ferrule would be disintegrated by that point hahaha

Bit of gun blue and this should be great!

If you know anyone with a hardness tester, it would be interesting to see if there are any structural changes when compared against the other clubs. With the repeated heat cycles of relatively low temps, you may be annealing the club head making it marginally softer. Then again, you still might not have enough heat even for that....

From what I've researched temps would need to be above 2000° to change the properties of steel. If that's true I'm not even coming close to that

Kang I think you need to come visit me so I can put you to work

Well...I couldn't resist...will try and bring some blueness over today. Some hogans or J15 may or may not be a little scared right now.

That is looking really sharp Kang! Did you get a bigger/more powerful torch or just use the same one and apply the heat for a longer period of time?

The stuff you decide to do sometimes just amazes me.

Bring the j15s. I can take them to a local plating shop to strip down to raw
