True Temper Steelfiber Nexus

What's up THP!

I know we have an awesome live event going on right now, but wanted to pop in. Going to be testing out the Blue S flex Nexus. It is about 57 g. Never used anything under like 65 g so it should be interesting.

I usually hover around the 105 SS with driver depending on the day. Driver has always been really hit or miss for me playing wise. It can be a weapon or it can be a liability. I am hoping to see stability with this shaft, but the ability to have it load and unload without a lot of effort. Shaft profiles are unique and one person will feel something totally different than another.

I will try to provide whatever insight I can. Please as any questions that pop up! I will be able to get out with this a couple times this week to the range to grab some initial impressions. I will compare mostly to the Lin Q Black/ Lin Q Blue for comparison sake.
What's your typical driver miss?

What's your typical driver miss?
I would say a block to the right. I have been trying to work on things at GolfTec so we will see if that does anything.

OK, just a handful of swings yesterday and none really going at it crazy like, but, these two shots I wanted to share. One is the ADAPT LS 9.0 10g back, the other is the ADAPT MAX-K 9.0 turned to 7.0. Both using the Nexus Black 65X.

Which is which? Hahaha

One second I think I know which is which and then I start doubting myself. I'll say bottom is LS because of the swing speed, but the truth is I don't really trust ST+ swing speed numbers anyway.

Ok, so fairly inside out then?

This looks like a fun comparison.
What is your normal shot shape? High flight low etc?

Not necessarily. The path is pretty neutral to outside. It's a weird deal.

Good questions. Usual ball flight is a mid trajectory ball that falls to the right. I can block it out to the right or sometimes have a nice slice. I wouldn't say I have a penetrating ball flight but it goes enough.

I've mentioned earlier in the thread, but I will be testing the Nexus Blue stiff in a Cobra DS Adapt Max K at 9*. My driver SS hovers around 110 with a fairly smooth transition. I've been a habitual slicer of the ball in the past and have worked really hard to contain that. My miss now tends to be a bit of a hook, as a result of overcorrecting my slice swing, or a high block to the right. More often than not I hit a straight ball. It rarely goes where I want it to go, but it flies in a straight line. I typically do just as well with either stiff or X shafts. I'm a bit of a shaft ho and recently I've played the Ventus Blue TR 6S, 2024 Ventus Blue 6X, Ventus Red 6X, LinQ Gunmetal 6F4, and Kai'li White 60S. I've experimented with sub-60g shafts in the past, have typically stuck with the 60-65g range. I'm hoping to see a little tick up in speed with the 50S in the Nexus. Seeing as it's a new product I don't really know what to expect. I posted some initial thoughts from my first swings, but will need to get some more mileage on it to get a better idea of what's going on during the swing. Looking forward to testing the product and will try to answer any questions people have.

Hahaha, K was on the top, the LS did show the same faster clubhead speed the whole session, which makes sense considering the aero difference in the two.

But wilder?

The Blue in the K yesterday stayed beautifully right in the 2500-2700 range, with about a degree more launch.

@willplaysgolf Since you have been able to get this out on the course and range. How does it respond in the transition of the swing?

So, the two profiles.

It’s interesting in that the feel under than handle/grip for me is pretty identical, it’s stiff and extremely stable. From there though, the change is evident. The blue is unsurprisingly more active, but it’s nothing crazy.

Though, as someone who has played the Proto and a lot of Kinetixx shafts before this testing, most of those are way more active feeling than this.

I will not comment on “whippiness” because I hate that word when it comes to driver shaft testing, but the active feeling is not excessive in waggle or transition.

The Black on the other hand, is much more subtle and connected.

Way too early quick hits?

1) Downrange dispersion on monitor is showing REALLY good right now. Will get on course 4-5 times this week to get a true test of that though.

2) They look incredible. I’m really impressed at how they implemented the SF material without it looking like the rest of the shaft was missing something. That blue POPS in the sunlight.

3) I’ll be honest, when I wrote the release article and saw steelfiber material, I was worried on a personal level. It’s not been a material or shaft that I’ve gotten along with, at all, over the years. Here though, there’s a balance that’s been struck with the lower 2/3 being traditional that really works.

Much more soon!

I have the capacity for a smooth transition, but more often than not my arms get behind and my face open and have to quickly close my arms and hands to catch up. I like how it keeps up on that type of swing. But there is just a touch of smoothness that doesn’t feel like I HAVE to get the shaft uber loaded in transition. Gaming a black profile and 8* head is more about counteracting some of my swing flaws rather than pure raw speed and I think this profile is good for that.

I’m going to put the black into play today, it’ll be the first outing on the course, and I’m curious to see just how it all unfolds.

Mass feedback to come this evening.

Popping out to the range at lunch for a maiden voyage.

Okay, Just got back from the range and I will put down some thoughts.

Got to take this out to X golf to get some swings in with it. I’m not a huge numbers guy but I did take pictures and will sort them out and post in a bit so maybe others will make some sense?

But for now it’s feel:
The steelfiber Nexus blue 50R felt sturdier. Not so much stiffer, but sturdier. have a very wrist heavy swing and could definitely feel it.

I warmed up with the old shaft in there then I switched it over. Took everything I had to be this patient lol. Then I TOPPED the first one!!! And the SECOND one too.

In panic mode, ( even though I know it was just a timing thing) I stepped back, took a bite of food and I just focused on hitting the ball. It worked. Boy did it work. 3 really really nice shots in a row. All above my average.

First, that blue is gorgeous! For those testing the blue that shaft is in the 50g weight range. Does it feel lighter to you than your gamer?

That’s a good question. I literally hadn’t even thought of it but yes, it does somehow feel lighter at address.

Did you get a good sensation of the nexus blue loading and unloading in the swing? I've used the Tensei blue before, so curious how it compared to your Tensei blue?

Liking the sounds of #1

and I will say I agree with #2 The shaft looks really good.

I do think it feels lighter in hand, but with the sturdiness under the handle I didn't have a problem with the weight.
