True Temper Steelfiber Nexus

After 2 weeks of rain, I'm finally getting back out to swing some more. Range session planned for this afternoon and have tee times on Tuesday and Thursday. Stumbled upon something last time I was on the course, so I am going to try to replicate that this afternoon and again tomorrow. I've been all over the place so far with the Blue, but the last round it was a draw or hook every time. If I can tame the hook some, I am totally okay with the ball going in one direction over and over. Hoping to see more of that. It seems to all come down to timing and not getting too quick in transition. If I feel quick on the way down, I get swipey and it can go anywhere.

I’m still pretty infatuated with the ball flight off of the Black in the Adapt X.

I had some pray and spray days last week, and the results were really playable, confirming that my peaks and valleys on misses with the Nexus Black are pretty darn small, bringing a huge amount of consistency into the equation for me I don’t normally feel like I have on the tee.

Got league play in tonight, I hit some really solid shots with the driver, some with some unfortunate results.

2nd hole (first driver of the day)- lower 10 yard draw that ended up in an ok spot. This ball flight and shot shape has been my worst left miss so far and it is absolutely playable.

3rd hole I hit a really solid drive just had the club face open and went OB. The feel is so good on this. Very satisfying release/kick.

On the 6th hole I hit a bullet down the left side of the fairway and in wetter conditions I am very happy with where I ended up.

9th hole best contact of the night and bullet 5 yard fade right where I wanted to hit the ball… lost the ball in the thick grass just off the fairway. So not sure how far the ball actually ended up but it felt so good and wish I could copy and paste that driver.

The repetitive theme is that most seemingly love the feel. How would you compare it to some others you have played?

The closest I think is it feels similar to the velocity with the slightly less activeness but you can feel it unload unlike most low low profiles I’ve played.Even if I may not be getting more distance, it gives me a feel like I am hitting further.

My misses are better than my old shafts. More distance, less dispersion.

I have not played too many shafts that weren’t low low profiles and didn’t feel like swinging a telephone pole, getting a lower ball flight while not feeling like I’m fighting the shaft is pretty great.

Got out for 18 yesterday afternoon. Felt like I was swinging really well yesterday. I made center contact a bunch of times, but the ball never seemed to end up in a good spot. I think I hit driver 10 or 11 times and managed 2 fairways. Distance was a little less than expected on a few really good swings. The fairways were a bit shaggy and the rough was over 4" tall, so it may have been a lack of bounce and/or roll that I am used to seeing. I did hit my 5w off the tee a few times though and hit the piss out of it, so maybe the driver is spinning a bit more than what I'd like. Playing again thursday on a different course that I play more often. I am hoping to bring a similar swing and get a better idea of where the ball should be landing based on my usual drives. My two way miss is no longer an issue, but I do have a tendency to overdraw it on occasion. My best swings were nice high draws. I really love the feel of this shaft. The firm handle stays with you the whole way through the swing, there's no perceivable movement at all under the hands, but it still feels smooth. There's no boardy feeling at all. I wish they offered an X flex in the 50g blue, because I think just a little more stability on the lower half would be the ticket. If I could go back, I'd probably tip it an inch or so and try to stiffen it up just a touch.

Got a round in yesterday afternoon with the Nexus blue 50R It was last minute so I rushed to the first tee with no warmups. Not optimal for a first round after a two week layoff.
But, no worries. A few deep breaths, and a slow backswing, twack! Right down the left side of the fairway.
As mentioned before I love the instant feedback on a miss. The entire round was one decent drive after the next.

One thing that has been consistent is my overall distance was off a few yards from my previous driver shaft, but my carry distance has increased by much more making me feel fearless over water. A trade off I’m incredibly happy with. Any added carry for a short hitter is more than one can imagine.

You say instant feedback on a miss. Is that not something you would/were seeing from past shafts?

Yes and no.
My driver (callaway Ai Smoke) is really amazing at telling me what the miss WAS. But my previous Tensei shaft is just swing hard and it goes. Not exactly a problem of course lol.
But with this one, if I rush through the ball, it lets me know immediately. it’s not just a “I crushed that one” or not, I know immediately where it is going because it truly is the feel of a steel shaft in my hands (without the stinger pain on a bad one). Knowing if I broke my wrists too soon before the turn and pushed it etc.

Keeping tempo with this shaft allows for the club head to get through the ball WITHOUT it being forced through when it’s going well. It’s honestly an incredibly strange feeling.

Hard to explain that moment because it’s unlike anything I’ve ever used.

You know I have been thinking an about a comparison. I played a regular flex shaft just to see if it would make anything different. The Nexus Blue feels like playing a regular flex shaft but very stiff in the handle.

The handle section is just.....man it breaks my mind in both the blue AND the black. In the best way.

When I went out and played today it felt like if I miss with the Nexus it’s more right than the UST shaft. Got to be patient with the Nexus or results may very.

Given the difference in mid and tip profiles from the Blue to the LIN-Q Black you typically play, it makes sense to see that.

Just very different profiles for your needs.

I figured these would be the results. As long as you put a good swing on it the Nexus blue performs.

It’s a performer for a whole lot of swing types, it’s just as we know, it’s not a one size fits all thing.

I would say you almost have to think differently with the shaft. Because it can provide effortless power if you let it.

For your swing, and mine, I’d agree. But there are a whole lot of people who wouldn’t have to change anything as well.

It’s why options are so critical, and fun! 🤩

This is an excellent description

I would be interested to see the black in comparison to the blue. I know you have went over it already but have you gotten anything else new between the two?

They’re just completely different profiles with completely different target players/needs.

Black is all about flatter trajectory with lower spin and responds best to, imo, speed. The blue is the everypersons shaft that offers more mid spin and added launch that the majority of golfers out there benefit most from.

Whenever the full review goes up, I get into it a bit more, but my swing still lends best to the Black.

I personally have had some great success with plug and play… moving away from the Denali to the nexus black. I’ve seen better misses for sure

Very fun night tonight, played my favorite 9 at my home course. Tighter but shorter 9.

1 bad drive, it was the first swing of the night and we started on #14 to get done quicker with Rain in the forecast.

I hit every fairway that I used driver with the Nexus other than my first swing of the night.

I am seeing a consistent, flat piercing ball flight that the shape is a 5 yard draw or fade. I have not had consistent success with a shaft quite like I have had with this one.

Tonight gave me a really good grasp on the distance that I thought I maybe losing…. Tonight was wet and on the colder side, If I went by tonight. I maybe hitting this shaft farther than the Denali but a couple yards

The hands. I can tell by my hand position at impact.
I was asked about the feedback on this Nexus Blue 50R vs my previous shaft.
Maybe because it was frigid out, but I was very aware of my hands. And this shaft is all about tempo and timing. Whenever it was a really good one, my hands were perfect and I knew it because I could feel where they were. The inverse was true with the one I popped up.
Again really hard to describe but it’s there.

Are you seeing a higher trajectory with the Nexus than your previous shaft? Just curious about the increased carry vs decreased overall distances you've been seeing.

Yes. The blue been a higher launch for me. It’s been really good confidence wise when faced with any Carrie’s off the tee. My entire game is searching for height. The lowest lofted iron in my bag is my 7 iron and even that one fights to get height.
