UST Mamiya DART V TSPX Iron Shafts

After reading this entire thread when researching a move to graphite shafts, I decided to pick up a set of 105 F4s and am loving them so far. It’s winter here, so have only hit them on the sim, but can’t wait to get them outside this coming summer. Thanks for all the reviews fellas.

In the TS4's?
I have 120F4's in my TS4's, and love them as well. Most accurate shafts I've ever played.

Yes, in the TS4. It’s a very nice combo indeed.

HELL YEAH!!! Love to see reviews make enough of a difference that people jump in themselves AND see success!

What are you seeing on the sim so far that you're liking with these?

Excellent choice and I'm here to tell you they perform well no matter where you play them!

Good question, and not sure I can describe it the best being new to golf, but I’ll try.

Last year was the first year I played more than 5 or 6 rounds in a season of my life. I got the golf bug and ended up playing probably 50+ times over the summer and hit a ton of range balls. Due to my new hobby and our long winters, i decided to install a simulator in my shop to continue my progress/testing.

I played kbs tour 130S This season and like them fine, but found my wrist/elbows would get sore and I would wear down at the end of rounds, so I started researching lighter graphite shafts. Being in Alaska, fittings aren’t an option so in come THP reviews. I ordered some rapid taper 105S and Dart V 105f4 after reading both of the long threads. I found the RT105s to play stiff even when soft stepped and I really had to go after them to get them to load. The DartV have so much more feel and feel great/stable when I swing 100% or take an easy controlled swing. I get great feedback on my strike location (which is all over for me) and they feel amazing when middled. In my limited experience with various iron shafts, I feel if the tip/shaft is overly stiff I tend to leave the face open at impact, but if too soft my dispersion gets large because I can’t consistently time impact. With the dart V I seem to be getting a good combination of the shaft loading consistently but remaining stable at different swing speeds. Ultimately, I think need to move these shafts to a head that retains ball speed better across the face, but in my limited experience these are the best shafts I have ever hit and they look amazing which is a bonus. I do feel that with my steep delivery that the dart Vs are kind of a mid flight shaft for me and haven’t noticed any shorter irons ballooning on me, which was an issue I had a few times on windy days with other shafts. That’s all I can think of for now, but I appreciate the help from this thread/the site and look forward to learning more and getting better.

DUDE! Fantastic description and breakdown!

I think I might try to find a 90f4 to try in my 5i

Have read through the entire thread, which has been very helpful. I'm sold on going graphite because I just turned 40 and want to stay healthier for longer. After a bunch of research, I'm also pretty sold on the Dart Vs but trying to determine weight and flex. They will go in a set of Maltby TS4s. I currently play Modus 125x, and have played Modus 130s and Modus 130x soft-stepped twice. 7i swing speed is 95ish, driver swing speed is 115-117. If anything, I usually struggle to keep my launch and spin down. I'm debating between 105F5, 120F4 and 120F5. I was planning on the 120F5 (maybe SSx1), but considering the 120F4 since everyone says you can't outswing them and also the 105F5 since no one seems to have regrets about going lighter.

I will likely end up just buying one to try, just not sure which one to try first. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I had the 120 F4s initially, and switched to the 105 F5s soft stepped, which have been fantastic. Zero issues going lighter, and they've performed great for me.

I am playing the 105F5's no trimming and they have been great. I have similar swing speeds to you ( maybe a couple mph lower ) and came from 125X Oban's in my irons. I debated goign 120s.

I think either 105F5's tipped or 120F5 soft stepped would get you in the right spot.

Graphite these days is meant to go lighter because it has zero issues holding up to swing speed. I think you'd be golden in the 105s but that's just my opinion

Might I suggest getting one shaft from the 105 and 120 to have a direct comparison? The 105 have been just fine for me.

Looking for some input gents. I did a foreward iron fitting recently and they recommended axiom 105x’s or kbs $taper lites, both soft stepped.

He had no idea when I mentioned dart Vs and ive been following this thread for a bit.

I preferred the feel and look when I had dart v’s temporarily.

Would you recommend 105 f5 soft stepped to match axiom 105x SS?

Preciate it!

I have 120 F4's in TS4 heads, and had a set of Srixon Z965's with Modus 125X 3 years ago.
I'm also about to turn 62, and probably swing 8-10mph slower than you.
To me, I think the 120 F4 is every bit as stiff as Modus 125X. A little different feel, though.
I played Dynamic Gold S300 and X100 for a very long time, and the Modus was similar to me. Dart V feels more linear to me.
I ended up replacing the 125X with 95g Fujikura Pro, and just couldn't play with them some days. Ended up back in heavy steel, AMT White X100, which were the best shafts I played, until I got the Dart V's.
TS4 with Dart V are incredible.

Glad you found what works for you. Having played RT 95s the Recoil Dart 90 F4 I’m now moving to a set of 3DP tours with Recoil Dart V 90 F4s. Cant wait to get them in the bag.

I might invite myself to play somewhere with you in OK just to try that setup 🤩

Would enjoy comparing these to your iron setup.

Sorry for being late on this. While I can’t give a direct comparison from soft stepping each set, I’ve had a pair of Axiom 105 S and Dart V F4 that I soft stepped.

Were you suggested the soft stepping to increase the launch or spin a little? Because overall, from what I personally saw from these shafts, the Dart Vs (which I now have in a set non soft stepped as well) already launch higher than the Axioms and feel more alive through the swing. I know there’s the weight difference to think about as well so take this as you will knowing that…I don’t think you need to soft step them at all to get a better feel and better launch out of the profile. You could go straight 105 F5 and be fine.

But soft stepping them, if that’s what you were recommended for two different other sets, you’ll see the benefits of doing that with these and be much better off. Performance, and feel wise in my opinion

I really love the Recoil Proto 125s I put in my irons late in the season last year. I want to see what the the Dart Vs can do for me. Since I am heading to Shaft Up 1 in May, I think I will pick Danny Le's brain for a few days and let him see a few of my swings to see what he recommends. The wait begins...
