This day and age we all mess with computers. I've been doing it since I was in 7th grade, and back then it wasn't cool to own one, let alone look like you were having fun messing with them. A few years ago, I was doing hardware reviews for a Tech Website which stayed alive a lot longer than any of us thought it would have. In fact, we just recently pulled the plug on it a couple short months ago.

I still prefer to build my own desktops. Here's my latest, and probably last for a good long time.
It has since changed from this pic, taking out the two 460GTX cards and putting in one Asus CU2 HD7970 video card.

That looks sick man, I personally don't work on computers (Mac User haha) but that looks really clean and fancy!

If I had the talent to work on stuff I would build one like this haha

I actually had a friend who's uncle owned a computer/IT center and he helped him build something cool like this!

That's one boss rig you linked Leiru- I knew my graphics cards were going to get replaced, sooner rather than later. So I didn't bother adding them to the loop. The Asus CU2 I put in runs very cool and quiet by itself, and I'll admit a bit of laziness. I want to keep this build simple, and I don't plan any heavy overclocking. The CPU is an Intel 3960X which came with no "stock" heatsink. Being a fan of water cooling over air cooling for the CPU, I went that route.

A light show on the chassis can make any build look that much better. I'm still considering adding a little illumination but I always chicken out...

HA! Just noticed to dorked up the spelling in the thread subject. I'll blame lack of sleep and lack of coffee.

I fix computers for my job. We need more internal lighting in ours to make them interesting.

Very well done, water cooling has come a long way.

DangerDen came up with this reservoir/pump combo that works really well and you don't have to buy "their" pump to make it work. It goes in a drive 5.25" drive bay. Even with a high power pump it stays whisper quiet. The chassis is a Corsair graphite 600T white edition.

Diablo 3 is about as stressed as this rig gets these days. But I'm also a casual BF3 player with the K/D ratio to prove it.

I live by the premise: if I don't mess with computers, they don't mess with me. Same goes for bees, hipsters, and the Amish.

I haven't seen a rig like that since my college days, and that was 9 years ago when we were at our peak. Always building a better computer for Counter-Strike. Had to max that frame rate out at 60+ on my CRT monitor.

Those were the days, and the next counter-strike makes me think i'll have to actually put a video card in my home pc.

I work on PC's for a living I don't touch them once I leave the office

That is a pretty rig right there. I built my first one about 5 years ago and built another 2 years later. I plan to always buil my own because it is fun and saves some money, too. My current set up is still chugging but could use an upgrade in a few areas but I think I wil be ok for a while yet. Nice post!

I used to love doing that stuff including many years as a tech, but then I couldn't keep my damn mouth shut and they kept promoting me deeper and deeper into management. :dohanim:

Thanks :beauty: I've always like messing with them. I've taught myself more about them then the Air Force has taught me about my pirmary job. Still, they denied all my attempts/applications to cross train into a computer field and now it's just too late to keep trying. I've only got a couple years left until retirement. So, I'm persuing my degree in Network and Communications Management and I'll try and make my second job something more "interest related." Which means I'll probably turn out like Ron - messing with them so much at the office that I just don't do it when I get home.

That's fine. I'm trying to do this golf thing a litle more regular anyway :deadhorse:

Very nice rig man, i like the liquid cooling you got going on.

I built mine 2 years back now so its outdated these days, but it still does everything I want it to do. It has a AMD 3.2GHz quad core, 8 gigs of ram, 2x ATI HD 5770 gfx cards, and a 10k rpm drive. A few months after took the photos, I added the second ATI HD5770 graphics card and two additional hard drives.

I'm in awe of anyone who can work on the internals of a PC! I know how to turn it on and turn it off (which it often does without my help), and that is about it.

Your PC looks powerful!

I love building my own PCs. My current rig is still going strong after ... 4 years or so. And it's still a beast because I totally overbuilt at the time.

I think for a project PC, I want to do a mineral oil PC (with a cheap rehab, maybe to set up as a media server or VM host machine or something)

Liquid cooling has come a long way. Even the phase change coolers are a little easier to deal with than they used to be - but they will drink some serious wattage from the wall. Not uncommon to notice a higher electric bill running phase change.

Working on the inside of a PC looks intimidating, but it's really easy. It's not like a few years ago (maybe 10 or so) when things could get plugged into the wrong socket because they looked almost the same and would actually fit. Those days are long gone so physically putting things together has gotten easier.

I have seriously over built this rig too. I don't do as much PC gaming as I used to, so this will probably be my last Balls to the Wall machine. It's been fun though, and I'll gladly help anyone out who wants to try it for themselves.

I used to always work on my own, though not to the extent of you guys.

I moved to the Mac side in 2007 and am never going back to Windows.

My only problem now is I don't have the manual dexterity anymore to tear into my current Mac mini. I want to replace the original 120G hd with a bigger one and can't find anyone in my town that does macs. I really don't want to go to dallas for this but may have to.

That looks like the ultimate LAN party machine right there. I had no idea liquid cooling was that compact nowadays...

Agh yes. the Mac debate. I'm not going to bag on anyone that buys a Mac. I too LOVE the Mac OS. I built a "Hackintosh" as a 2nd machine few years back, just to mess with it. Since Apple started using Intel parts, the only thing keeping EVERYONE from running a "Mac Clone" is the EFI that tends to get a little complicated for the average user. However, you hit the nail on the head. Doing anything to their hardware, is more of a chore than its worth. It's nothing more than the run of the mill parts that every Windows PC uses. But Apple puts their half eaten fruit on it and charges up to three times what its worth. For that reason, I can't see myself running Mac. Ubuntu is a great FREE OS. And runs on the same hardware windows will.

I also am a IT guy and will always build my own machines. I have had way to many machines die that the parts are non standard. I have just about everything running in my house Windows/MacOSX/a couple distros of linux. I thought about going water cooled now that I don't go to LAN parties that much anymore.

I like that case RedlyneTheory thats what my current PC is running in. I really like that case. If I get a chance ill post a few pics of my case.

Thanks man and very cool you have one too. Cooler Master makes good cases.

Cooler Master makes awesome cases. I've had the pleasure of doing reviews on several of their cases. The HAF series was among the last that I got to review before The Great Meltdown and media samples dried up across the whole market.
I was in a Cosmos S for a long time until I wanted to downsize a bit. That's when I gave that Corsair a try.
There really isn't much that Cooler Master makes that isn't good. Of course, personal taste comes into play, but their quality is among the best in the market. I guess that's what I'm really trying to say.

You do know that cracking open the case of a Mac actually sets off an internet alarm? They send round 2 immaculately dressed individuals to inform you that you've been chosen for a special upgrade and they'll gladly escort you to the nearest Apple store in their state of the art shiny metal van. Once you get in the van you realise the guys are wearing cheap suits, it's actually a Ford inside, and it has no engine. That's the last anyone will ever hear of you.

Nice rigs Khaot1c and Redlyne! I am a PC Tech as well, but I still enjoy building my own rigs. I do a refresh about every two to three years. Right now I'm running an older Q9550 / HD6870 in my CM HAF 932. I'll probably do a refresh this fall. There's an R 7970 on the wall at work that I have my eye on, which I can buy for 10% over cost, but I try to keep my mind off it for now because I'm looking at getting new clubs this summer.

Ha-ha! Been there, done that already. When I first got it, I did my own memory add. I will not open it again... The mini is way tight inside!
