What’s a Driver Fitting Like at Shaft Up with UST Mamiya?

Each year, THP Forum members get the chance to win a trip to Shaft Up (2 held per year) to get fit by Danny Le from UST Mamiya for a new head and premium shaft combo. Post driver fitting, they get to put the new combo right in play at dream destination courses.

As each event passes, those following along on the forum are constantly amazed at the amount of distance and dispersion benefits gained by every golfer that goes through the process. We decided to roll the cameras and show you how it all shakes out.



Forum member @Deebo76 works with Danny Le on the range with new Callaway Quantum driver heads and the UST Mamiya LINQ PowerCore line to dial in for both the gains and the misses and come away with a total performance product.

Were you fit for your current driver?

We can confirm it is coming back in 2027 for two separate THP Experiences, giving a total of 8 more golfers a chance to go through this type of leveling up.

How do you think you would fare in a driver fitting at Shaft Up with UST Mamiya?

No, I bought it based on past driver fittings and THP comments.

I think I would get a lot better dispersion than I am now and probably a bit more speed.
 
Such a cool video. Love that @DannyLe emphasis on fitting to the miss. Golf is a game of misses so trying to minimize the hurt on the poor swings sounds like the right way to do it for me, vs trying to maximize the good swings as they happen more rarely. It's been 2 years since I was last fit for a driver, wasn't fit for the current setup.

I'd love to see how I would fare in a shaft up fitting. Not sure how much distance I could increase as I'm just a slow swinger anyways, but I'm certain @DannyLe could get my dispersion way better which would be a huge help to me.
 
This is so cool! I love seeing all the discussion that goes on between Danny & the players.

I was not fit for my current driver. I am quite sure that a fitting at a Shaft Up event would bring my dispersion down and add several yards of distance. I’m not certain that my launch and spin with my current setup are optimized.
 
For anyone who's never been fit for a driver - I highly recommend it.

Absolutely game-changing.
 
I think the biggest thing that you get here is playable distance and a driver that works on good and bad days.
 
Great video @Lord Tox. Really shows the benefits of getting fit by an expert like Danny, the gains are documented and obvious. I love hearing Danny's thought process through the fitting.

See this is what I missed. And its all my fault I get it. But my fitting was a lot quicker I don't feel I received the "in depth" more detailed , into the weeds, "you suck, now lets try and make you suck less" fitting 😉
I hope to get back in one of these so I can spend more time with the great @DannyLe 👍

Not quite. I was brought back to life after some much needed rest. I had worked 12 - 14 hour days before the event and it caught up to me. Plus heat 🥵 doesn't usually agree with me unless I prepare for it weeks in advance.
 
Such a great video. The dialogue between @Deebo76 and @DannyLe during the fitting and then the full explanation of what he had you try and why was exactly what I was hoping for out of this.

I was self fit for my current driver. How would I fare in a Shaft Up fitting? Since the only driver fitting I've ever done was mostly focused on distance I think Danny would greatly help my dispersion and getting me into a better launch profile.
 
Be kind everyone, I spent about an hour in the makeup chair.
The opportunity to get fit by Danny Le was very informative, supportive and surprising. He really wanted me to avoid my miss as much as possible with the fitting. Getting fit into a TX shaft was a shock to me. I am still hitting great shots with my properly fit driver and I have not touched the settings!
 
Love this video. Great convo back and forth between Danny and Deebo. Excellent insight and fun to relive these memories of getting fit by Danny it all goes by so fast when you are there doing it.

You can immediately see how the tempo and even the sound of strike quality change as the fit dials in. Love to see it. This solidified the fact that @Deebo76 is playing the tips when we link up. You are CRUSHING that thing man!!
 
This was a fun watch and I feel like you can swap in any THPer that’s been to a ShaftUp and see similar results.

That's the most amazing part...it feels like it only lasts for a few minutes and Danny is handing you your new driver.

Then you go back to the range to play with your new toy and are completely blown away by the difference that 10 minutes he spent with you makes.
 
Man this was everything I expected a fitting from Danny Le to be like. The back and forth interaction and break down of the numbers was awesome!!!

I was not fit for my current driver, but a shaft that I was fit to in a previous driver.

Awesome video. Great results on the fitting. It was good to hear Danny’s thoughts and @Deebo76 did a great job conveying what he liked.

I think this fitting really shows the importance of a good fitter. I might have thought a shaft that launches lower would be the right path but squaring the face better with the Blue seems to drop the spin.

Love to see the gains.

@Deebo76 it sounds like the driver is working well for you back home which is awesome to hear.
 
I was fortunate enough to be part of Shaft Up 2 this year at Ballyhack. I had not been fit for my previous gamer and had done it myself based on internet research. I wasn’t in a bad head but the shaft I was in was not right for me.

I was surprised because my swing speed was around 85mph but I told Danny that I didn’t like how soft my shaft felt. It was a regular flex. The surprising part was even with my swing speed Danny fit me in to a stiff shaft in blue profile. I expected regular in red.

I think like others have pointed out with the comment on fitting to minimize the punishment of misses, Danny also does a fantastic job fitting you in to what you are capable of. I’m very new to golf and the mechanics aren’t all the way there yet. But I’m 45, 6’ 1” and 220 lbs. So Danny knew I won’t be at 85mph for long. He put me in a shaft that felt good, looks phenomenal (I mean, 1776 ya’ll), and will help me with misses now and support me as my swing comes together. All in all it was an unforgettable experience and amazing opportunity that I’ll forever be grateful for.

Even if you can’t get fit by Danny I echo all the others and say do get professionally fit for driver. And hopefully you can use all of what you learn here on THP to bring what you want out of it to the fitting along with your swing results!
