What are you building? (Club style)

The more tipping, the more weight is added to the butt for counter balancing and butt stiffness, with mid flex .... thats a good thing.
They're taper tip stepless steel. There will be no tipping. The 6.5 are already pretty stout, especially for their weight. I'm/my move is just borderline fast for them right now.

I'm about to turn 76 years old, and been tinkering with club building for many of those years. I've been playing with a set of Adams A12OS all season, and have
been happy with them, but the last couple of rounds my GIR have fallen from 8-9 to 4-5, and I haven't been hitting the irons solid at all. It occurred to me while playing yesterday that the courses are getting drier and firmer this late in the season, and maybe I'm having a hard time taking turf with those wide, 'almost hybrid' wide soles on
the Adams irons.

I've had a set of Alpha Response heads that I bought for a good price back in March, but never did anything with. So I just finished shafting them up
with a set of Cobra fly-Z senior shafts that I've had sitting around on my work bench. I'm thinking that the undercut cavity and slightly narrower sole on the
Alphas will help me get through the turf a little easier than those Adams. I'll try them at the range this weekend...

Not really building today, but had to paint fill a used club I bought, so figured it was a good chance to get rid of some white lettering on others that I loathe.

in the process of making this raw. just got it today, new

Have used Nakashima hybrids 22 and 25 degree, since about 2005, shortly after Nakashima Golf started.
Just found the 19 degree hybrid head I had forgotten about.

Removed/sanded (80 grit) original black paint finish and sprayed three coats flat white. Over spraying adds too much weight/increases SW.

Planning shaft install next step... done D1, 41 inches, very stiff Nunchuk ca 320cpm

Count me in the group that just doesn't have the nerve to jump into reshafting just yet. I've started regripping, but with undersize grips, I never seem to get the butt of the grip flush with the end of the shaft (using air and the Pure grip gun, no issues with tape & solvent, but I prefer air). Once I perfect that...maybe MAYBE I'll give reshafting a go.
Steve Elkington tip is to push a tee into the grip butt, then use the solvent...push grip over the tape, then pull the tee.
Its almost like using air.
(my grips are undersize and no issues)

Put together a set of irons today..

Turned out my current iron setup is WILDLY light in swing weight, so now I am pondering yanking out the shafts as ASAP as possible because that’s ridiculous.

Recoil 110 protos need to go in there immediately.

I heard when you said that. Weren't you playing 921 Forged? What grip/shaft combo had you Cwhatever?

Midsize? You don't play short so I'm trying to figure out the why. I've never pulled 921F heads. Are they light?

A rusty full toe.

Played 18 tonight with them exclusively and still am adjusting to the offset. The good shots I did have carried slightly better and much higher than my TM Burner OS irons which is what I was looking for going into this project.

So its been a few months and I can honestly say that I really had a hell of a time adjusting from my TM Burner OS's. I really liked the clubs from a pitching/chipping/bump n run perspective. Ball really bounced off the face well. I didn't really care for them on full swing shots, except the pitching wedge for some reason. For heads that weighed near the same as my TM's they also felt heavier. I'm assuming this is from those tungsten weights concentrating the weight instead of it being spread out more. Overall, way too inconsistent in feel over the course of 18 holes weekly which was leading to timing issues. However, the nice shots were really nice. After having enough of this I said why not just put those Score shafts in your old TM heads since the size & length on both sets is the same and see if you get the higher ball flight out of those. What do I have to lose?

This worked out really well as I was able to get the higher flight I wanted and saw a slight distance improvement which was equal to the good shots that the Bio Cell's. Not too shabby. Downside is that I have to re-adjust the chipping/pitching/bump n run game back to pre-July 4th club selection since I gained a club and a half distance w/ with the Bio Cells since the ball popped off the face so well which is easier said than done.

Overall, it was a pretty affordable experiment and all I have to do now is sell my Bio Cell heads. Or, maybe I'll but the Rifle Shafts in the Bio Cells and see how that works! Who knows.

Rebuilt my irons with KBS Tour Matte White shafts and some BB&F ferrules.

The finish on my Raw Vega irons was wearing out, so I removed.

Putting a set of irons together tonight, but first, a little maintenance. I'm not sure how many rounds the grip on my favorite Ventus actually has, but the sudden shift to cool wet weather has shown me it's a boatload too many.

Going to re-shaft, and not feeling the orange. Open to suggestions.
