What did Paul Lawrie do to get a tourney named after him?

Apart from win The Open in 1999 you mean?

There are 134 other one-time major winners without a tournament in their honor this year. Along with many, many multiple major winners. I realize Lawrie has 12 other wins, but that still doesn't seem like a resume for naming rights, especially while he is still active.

He's the host and his foundation is the main charity for the tournament.

It's not a tournament named after him ffs.

Guy asks a legitimate question and people get upset.

Thanks for the replies. They answer my question. Even learned what ffs stands for, too. Nice bonus.

I thought this was quite odd too, it'd be like having a Jim Furyk open on the PGA tour.

Paul is an absolutely great guy and wonderful ambassador for the game. He puts so much time and money into bringing kids into the game and his own charitable Foundation. Certainly in Aberdeen where I am, he's a complete hero!
