What did you shoot today?

Not upset with the 82 yesterday (in cold, wet, and windy conditions) after not touching a club in 8 days and really not getting out as much as usual in the last month or so. One drive OB on #6, and an unplayable on #10 kept me from the 70s. Then 2 three putts. Really solid day other than that.

45/41 for an 86 yesterday. Saturday was a 96 and Friday was a 41 on 9 holes. My scores are all over the map these days. :(

Played three balls on 9.

37, 38, 36

Eighth round in the 60s in the last 5 weeks! Six of those rounds I shot my age or better, including today. This round tied my PB to par at 5-under, as did a round last week. More incredible is that I can see there is the potential for even lower scores if everything clicks at once.

My basic round stats were:
Score 66 (33/33)
FIR 93% (13/14)
GIR 78% (14/18)
Scrambling 100% (4/4)
5 Birdies / 13 Pars
Putts 27

Bucket list round today. The Old Course at St. Andrews. Or The Old Lady as my caddie kept calling her.

46/44 - 90

Had some blowup holes and dumb mistakes. But it didn't take the smile from my face.

So, now having played St. Andrews, what is your impression of what features make up most of the difficulty? (Slope Rating 133)

I was lucky to play it during perfect weather. I could only imagine trying to hit some shots into wind or trying to hold greens with tough pin positions.

The contours of the greens and fairways are insane. They were the perfect speed and I thoroughly enjoyed putting on them.

Bunkers are tough and deep. But the sand was perfect. Got up and down for par from the bunker on 11. A great moment I'll always remember.

It was a pleasure to play and I feel honored.

What's the yardage and rating/slope your playing?

One of the best rounds I've played this year. One double for the entire round. Playing from where we played my course hdcp was a 14 and I played under it. Looks like my GHIN will be under 12 for the first time ever.

I hit the ball pretty bloody well after I figured out it was too far back in my stance. Such a good morning on the course with @DiscipleofPenick

82 yesterday. A little loose on the greens after not touching a club in 2 weeks.

Ball striking was good though. Almost jarred this one on a 170yd par 3.

Even par at Kensington GC in Naples on a fun day with a Canadian buddy I hadn’t seen since May. I hit a lot of GIR and had a rare chance to go bogey free until I screwed up my approach and hit it in the water on the last hole. The flag was front left and I pulled my 8 iron just enough for it to land on the fringe and run down the slope into the water. Dumb decision to go for the flag(below). Confidence can be a bad thing at times. :)

First round on the home course since aerification on Monday so the greens were slower and sandy, but actually in decent condition considering how recently that was done.

38-40-78 with 3 birdies, and I still lost 3&2 to my buddy in our friendly match.

Managed to get out for my first 18 holes in about a month - although I have had a couple of 9's and time on the range.

Solo round. Used the Elyte mini driver for all of my tee shots where I would take a wood - hit 7/10 fairways with it, and only missed with my longest 276yd drive by 18" into the first cut.

A horror show on the 8th when I took my 5w twice to give it a try out off the deck and should have just played my ball properly as I normally do with long irons, and dropped a second as a try-out. 4th and 17th had frustratingly lost balls which also drove up what could have been a best of season score. Drained a 20ft'er on the last to keep it sub-90 and to end up with a solid 31 putts.

But the stand-out holes on the round were the 1st (9i on a 144yd par 3), and 10th (6i on a 186yd par 3) where I nearly jarred both of them:

Sorry about the color on these - not sure why..... but it shows the pitch marks and if you look carefully the ball in the second image about 20ft behind the pin.

My last two rounds have been 90, and a 79. Both on the same course.

The 90 was just a poor round of play. Not a lot went right in that one. However, the bright side was it could've been worse.

The 79 was a much better effort, where I paid more attention to the little things in my game. The fact that it was good enough for 4th place in our Super Seniors (23 players) Tournament was icing on. the cake.

Finally broke 90 after work today. 42/46. Couple of bad breaks on the back nine made me question if I’d pull it off. Back out tomorrow morning to set another PR.

To get that close 2x? That must have been good swings or just dumb luck. I would take either though.

I made a good connection on both, and they are the right clubs for the hole. But I'm not good enough to be that accurate, and if I was I would have landed the ball in-line and in-front of the hole. So I'll take either as well ;)

Today was a mess. Course was playing TOUGH. Wind, greens running at 14!, crazy pins…. When I heard the best score of 85 out of our 4 foursomes, I was kind of pleased with my 87 (not really, but it helped). Greenskeeper was angry today. Tomorrow is our season ending tournament, and the course is tuned up.

Round Recap: "Sunshine > Score" Edition

The Good:
I hit the lottery on the random pairing draw—nothing better than getting matched with someone who plays quick, vibes are good, and the conversation flows. When the pace is smooth and the partner is solid, the whole round just feels lighter.

The Bad:
105 stings after a streak of sub-100 rounds, especially with a split of 53/52. Not the trend I want to see, but given the season winding down, it happens—fall golf giveth and fall golf taketh away.

The Ugly:
The long clubs clearly took the afternoon off. That whole tee box shuffle—right miss → overcorrect left → toe strike into sadness—is a familiar dance. When driver and woods aren't cooperating, every hole feels like damage control.

But…
Still walked away with sunshine, fresh air, and maybe one of the last full 18s of the season. Hard to be mad at that. Sometimes the best rounds aren’t about the score—they’re about stealing a half day from real life and making it feel like a mini-vacation.
