What did you shoot today?

It took 2.5 hours to play 6 holes today.. I left. Scrapped all data.

With this, posting season closes in 2 weeks and the weather is turning quickly. Season is over.

Probably the most interesting 86 I’ve ever shot. 7 doubles, a birdie, a bogey, and 9 pars.

Interesting does not mean enjoyable.

Yesterday, 38/36/74

10 fairways, 12 greens, 32 putts, 3 birds, and 1 double.

The swing was mostly clicking. But, even though I putted very well at times, I missed 3 danged putts between 3'-4'. Each a sidehill, sliding putt, but no excuse, gotta make those. I'd take making even just one.

But, it sure was fun mostly hitting the ball where I wanted it to go.

I started out horribly, simply awful. Finally the back meds kicked in and I was on track. Finishing the front bird par bird didnt save me from shooting a .....50
Yes, a 50. Turned around and shot 41 0n the back. Missed several bird putts. Greens were great, just fast and undulating as hell, and the wind gusting into the mid 20's was affecting the line of putts....... The first bird was on a par 3 playing 144 in a wind from 10-11 O'clock. I hit a beautiful knockdown 9 that disappeared from sight. We thought it might be in for my ace #6 but alas, as we got closer there it was, within a foot of the pin. At least I didnt miss that putt. LOL

EDIT: I should add, the ball on that par 3 was a Volvik XTSoft which was selected for its more moderate spin profile, making it ideal for knockdowns into the wind.. Beside being inexpensive in blowing leaf season.

Played a round on Thursday at The Links at Gettysburg. With a slope of 133 from the tees I was playing, this is one of the toughest courses in the area, and I've only played it 4 times over the years. It was a windy day with lots of gusts, and the temperatures were about 20 degrees lower than we've had, so it took me a few holes to get dialed in. Overall, I feel like I played much better than the score indicates. But after that rough patch on the first several holes, I did much better. On the back 9, I was 1-over, and it is considered the more difficult side.

My basic round stats were:
Score 81 (44/37)
FIR 79% (11/14)
GIR 56% (10/18)
Scrambling 100% (4/4)
11 Pars / 5 Bogeys / 2 Double Bogeys
Putts 33

Even Steven is what I shot. Too many punch outs from the trees to shoot a good score. 5/14 fairways.

FIR is really good!! I might need to switch to your driver lol

A couple lost balls on the front, ugh.
46-39-85

But this could very well have been the last great fall day for golf. From now on its probably layers and warm hats and two gloves.

My percentage FIR is a combination of player and club. When I got fitted for my current driver earlier this year the shaft and head setup I got had a lot to do with dispersion. There was one other head that gave me as much distance, but the fade bias adjustment on the Ping G440 Max head gave me superior accuracy.

Played a quick loop at the local executive course this morning while the weather is still holding here in Western Mass. If this ends up being the last outdoor round of the season, I’ll happily take it.

The Good

  • Opened the round playing two balls on the par threes, and both opening shots hit the green—starting off with a double GIR.
  • Possible final drive of the year: 20-yard-wide fairway, striped it right down the middle—absolute perfect shot for that hole.
  • Only clipped one tree all round.
  • Finished just one shot over my goal score for this course

The Bad

  • Three double bogeys.

The Ugly

  • Not a damn thing. It was a good moring

The good play continued this morning. Fairways weren't plentiful but I was not leaving myself in trouble off the tee. Stupid double on 18 stopped me from shooting under 80. With the weather PCC should come into affect for this round and I can see my handicap going down again, I hope.

Nice, ping makes a great driver

Was planning on just practice but saw openings on the tee sheet and played Hills course at LPGA. 43/41 for an 84. Felt great considering I haven’t played or practiced in about 3-4 weeks. Course was in excellent condition and greens very fast. Played by myself and finished in just over 2.5 hours. Birdie on #12 was great tee shot followed by downhill 15’ putt rolling right in. And now here comes the rain.

4 birdies, 4 bogies and a double =74.

82. Should’ve been better. Poor short game on a few holes really cost me and my iron play wasn’t the sharpest.

2 birdies 6 bogeys 3 doubles

First outdoor nine in 2-3 weeks. Hip not great. Played up a tee box at the senior tees. Don’t care.

Birdie

Double (Mist)
Birdie (Drizzle)
Bogey (Downpour)
Par (Downpour)

For a 37 (!?) with one hip induced mulligan. Not that I’m counting it or posting it. Just happy to play at all right now. All for fun.

Still, five GIR, 2 up and down, one sandy. I should take two weeks off more often haha

Played for the first time in 18 days. Was in Italy. Lots of good food but no golf.

41/38/79 at Leslie Park. 9.5 differential. I struck the ball very well after the lengthy layoff. Course played tough because of 2-3 inches of rain yesterday, top dressed greens (front nine only), and the tee placements. I am old and don’t hit the ball far. Putting the “White” tees where the “Blue” typically are located on a half dozen created an unwanted challenge.

Finally managed to have a round where I kept the ball in play and the LAB was (mostly) dialled in. Still frustrated with the 3-jack on the opener, but I blew my opening putt 10+ feet past the hole as I didn't roll any before the round, that's on me. Left the tee shot on 8 out to the left a bit which found the hazard. First bunker of the day on 18 and flew it a little too far. I'm not even going to mention the missed 4 footer for birdie on 6 ;)

Good playing!

Got stomped, Casey shot 76

Highlight was 14, I chipped in for birdie and Casey made a 12 footer on top of mine for birdie also

Actually got a round in today, my 2nd full 18 of the year (first one was in May). Played a course in the area that I hadn't been to in a few years; pretty simple little country course, unique in that it has zero bunkers and very small greens (3000-3500 sf). It's the oldest course in the county, a little over 100 years old, it started as a 9 holer with sand greens. Mostly happy with my game today, shot 82 from 6150 yds, 31 putts, 11 FIR, 5 GIR, 1 birdie, 2 lost ball penalties, one lead to my only double. Very windy (15 to 25mph blowing all day), several shots right into wind def caused me to club up, made big difference. Paid $29 incl cart for the round which was a nice bonus.

Played a really fun course here outside of Fort Myers called Old Corkscrew. For prime rates $59 for a 3:13pm tee times wasn’t bad at all. Course was in great condition and the layout was amazing. I played it from the blue tees at 6459yds. Putting was awful on the front and I had 3 three putts. Hit every fairway and ended up with a 44. The back was a different story where I rattled off 5 straight pars, bogey, par, bogey for a 38. Not bad for not swinging the clubs in a while. 11/14 fairways.
