What did you shoot today?

42-39 for 81 today. I had zero birds and two doubles on the front 9. One of those doubles was from dead center FW into a bunker that was like concrete. That started some issues and the other was from the right side of the FW and I had a poor approach shot. Still a fun day to be out on course.

39/40 for my best round of the year, which included a couple of double bogeys and rescuing a lateral penalty hole to save a bogey among other things.

72. Even par on some absolutely goofy pin placements and battling the wind.

I’m quite pleased.

An extraordinarily mid 91 with two triples and a quintuple. Oh, what could've been.

Got in 18 holes on the par-3 course this morning. I finally got the Shot Scope watch fully figured out, so all my putts and stats were recorded.

Finished with 4 pars and a birdie. I had some stellar GIRs, even on a couple of holes that usually give me trouble. I ended up just 3 strokes over my goal of 72 (36+36, bogey golf), mostly because of two triples on the first two holes while I was still cold.

Even managed to get a 60-degree wedge shot to spin back a bit on the receptive greens:

My best round ever today, and on what is probably my final round of the year. Was a pretty windy and only about 45-50* outside. Greens were rolling so pretty fast and very pure.

Reached my goal for the year, was par or better for a round.

Played 9, shot 40 with an ugly double paired with a couple of good “rub of the green” breaks, so probably ended up with a score that was a couple better than I deserved with the fairly poor swing I brought with me today.

43 on the front from the championship tees, 45 from the regular tees. I was -1 on the back through 11 then +3 through 14 and I got tired. It was the 1st time I’ve walked this beast.

Great round, congrats on the PB!

Things are starting to shut down in the Mitten. Went to our executive course (par 68, 5,086 yards) since the city’s full size course closed for the season after yesterday. Had a couple train wrecks on the way to a 75. After this coming weekend I won’t have a lot of choices for play. Sigh.

Shot a 1-under 70 today. We've had some cold weather to the point where some greens react like you are playing a Superball, and others react normally. It made it tough to get approach shots close to the pin. A bit of a guessing game. The wind was down, though. That was nice.

My basic round stats were:
Score 70 (36/34)
FIR 100% (13/13)
GIR 89% (16/18)
Scrambling 100% (2/2)
1 Birdie / 17 Pars
Putts 33

Today was a good day. 75 is the number but after a 35 on the front the back was a bit disappointing with a 40 including a double-bogey on a par 3.

Wow the irons were good today and the woods were finding fairways, though not super long (likely the cold morning air). But, I’ve got to putt better and covert birdie attempts at a higher clip. I made one putt all day outside of 5 feet probably so to come out with a 75 feels like a W for today.

Finally walking weather here so I went and walked the front 9 of our little executive course twice this week.

The front is a par 31 with 5 par 3's and 4 par 4's, and playing just under 2k yards. It's a challenging little course with super small/fast, mostly turtleback, greens.

First round I went +2 for a 33. 2 bogeys and the rest, pars.

Yesterday I pulled all my woods/hybrids from my bag when I left the house and played irons only, which was super fun. Shot another +2, 33, with 2 bogeys and the rest, pars.

Trying to get in a round as often as the weather allows, which isn't much right now. Today, the temperature reached the low 40s, so out I went.

My basic round stats were:
Score 69 (33/36)
FIR 93% (12/13)
GIR 78% (12/18)
Scrambling 50% (2/4)
4 Birdies / 12 Pars / 2 Bogies
Putts 30

41 (+5) yesterday on the front nine.

Best iron play in a long time - crisp contact, good ball flight, and generally went as far as I expected - but never hit anything really close to the hole.

3 wood off the grass was disappointing, especially as good as I've been hitting it on the SkyTrak lately. The single 3W off a tee was really good.

Two 50+ putts were horrendous, but I did manage to salvage a 2-putt on one of them. They were bouncing all over the place right off the putter face. Gross.

Greens can be an adventure this time of the year. Glad to hear about the ball-striking. Any idea what was up with the 3W?

Greens were not a factor on these putts, for sure; all me! They are generally in good shape, for our course in November.

I think the 3W issue was just not finishing the swing, especially the second one. It felt tentative.

Around here we have a number of lightning fast greens with lots of imperfections to cause deflections. Some greens have gotten cold enough to have that Superball effect on approach shots. Makes it an adventure.

39/37/76 at Huron Meadows. Would have been a 7.8 differential if we were posting.

My putting was poor today. Lots of birdie opportunities but never even burned an edge. My internal excuse was I never really took time to mark, clean the ball, line up the putt, etc … Just walked up, eye balled it quickly and whacked the ball.

Why did I putt quickly? When the second guy who signed up for the first tee time did not show, the starter gave me two walk on singles, Marty and Ray. Both had carts and I walked. Ray had trouble following his ball so I made sure to watch and lead him to his shot. Neither of them shot under 120 but I dragged them around the course in 2 1/2 hours.

86 on Torrey South from the green tees (6600/73.something/134)

Drove the ball terribly which always makes for a long day out there when the rough is up which it was today. Only hit 5/14 fairways and something like 6 greens. It could’ve easily been a 90 something so I’m okay ending up in the mid 80s. Made a triple and two doubles en route.

Yesterday, 38/40/78... so clutch in finishing: bogey, bogey, double.

Solid round up until that point.

The struggle is real. I don’t think the guys I was paired up with broke 100. One of the dudes hit maybe 1 fairway.

I was staying at the Hilton right along Torrey Pines in 2018 when I was down there for a new-hire orientation. It was the final day of the Farmers which went to a Monday finish with Jason Day and Alex Noren if I remember correctly. I was talking with a local who said he had played a league tournament in the weeks leading up to the Farmers and he said the low single-digit players in their league were shooting 90+ as the rough was brutal. 5" deep.

I played it back in January about 8 days before it shut down for the Farmers. Shot 96, from the whites. Today was 86 from the greens. Played not great either day but better than horrible today.

Is the rough at Torrey ever playable? The two times I played there (different years), a ball barely rolling into the rough resulted in an intense search. I was stepping on lost balls left and right.
