Static measurements are a nice starting point but no way to fit. We start with those, but I certainly utilize the fitting carts to their fullest to get the final specs. There is no substitution for hitting off a lie board, utilizing face tape, swapping shafts, and witnessing ball flights to find the perfect fit. I had a customer recently come in with a new set of mp-59s he'd had for 3 weeks and was ready to get rid of because he couldn't hit them. He was fit at a competitor for 4* flat (which were only bent 2* might I add) and we ended up with 3* upright. He was fitted 5* off! No chance for good results with that. He was striping his 6i in under 30 mins and is in love with them again, when he came in frustrated and ready to trade out of a $1000 investment for half or less.
If you were fit on the mat-t then by all means trust that over the one guys comment. Maybe he felt slighted that you didn't trust them for the fitting, and rightly so based on his comment.
